This was helpful! Another step I do is to first sort by length, then color. Meaning I do straps, sleeveless, short sleeved, 3/4 sleeved, long sleeved. It helps me to know the type of tops I have and in what colors...to avoid buying duplicates. For any patterned prints, I usually fold them because they throw me off when looking in my closets.
I've been doing a really similar version of this for several years now, but my rainbow is unscientific. It's still a gradation, but I have whites in the front, then blues, greens, and purples (favorite colors) heading toward the back toward pinks, reds, yellows (no oranges, I'm a Winter, lol), and then all my grays/blacks. My prints are like yours. For me, someone who lives with anxiety and depression, having my closet organized by color is not only - like you discuss - functional, it's also inspires me to WANT to put together a cute outfit and go somewhere. Before I did this, it was random and too tempting to just stay home. This way, you see hundreds of possibilities at a glance. Great little closet tutorial! And here I thought I was obsessive. Now, I'm organizer-approved! 😁
Ive color coordinated my closet since high school or college! I don’t go super in depth by sorting light to dark within the color ranges. I do, however, categorize from short sleeve to long sleeve in the specific color range. My color scheme is: white/tan, grey, black, brown, roygbiv, pink. I place my burgundy/maroons with purples because they suit my skin tone nicer than reds (I know some people sort maroons as a dark red) and I place mauves with pinks.
❤️ this by color. I organized my closet in this order : work clothes/causal/semi formal/formal/winter clothes. I have been doing this since college. However when lived in Oklahoma and Maryland weather clothes went before work clothes. Currently in Florida back to my home state. Of course due to going back school, being unemployed, and with COVID causal clothes seem to be what I am using a lot these days. Hopefully that changes soon. Favorite color: purple and burgundy. Not together though.
I've been wearing more pink lately. It is not my favorite color, but a few of my favorite items are pink. I stopped color coordinating my closet awhile ago. Now it is categorized by style (i.e. dresses, sleeveless shirts, sweatshirts.) But I guess I could coordinate by color within category 🤔💡 THANKS FOR THE IDEA 😂

I usually go white, light greys and beiges then roygbiv (I put pinks in the indigo section), then I go browns dark greys and then black, I think this way it looks more aesthetically pleasing imo
I've always color-coordinated since I was a little girl. My mom taught me! My closet is white, off-white, cream, beige, yellow, brown, pink, red, green, blue, grey then all of my black ( which is the majority of my closet because I love black)... the lighter to darker color method works best for me.

Goodness I loved watching this. I do organize by color; it just makes it so easy to get dressed. Thanks for the tip on patterns. My favorite color is cognac, with khaki a close second. 🍁😊🍂
I take it further and organize by shirt type, then sleeve legnth, then if they are belly shirts, then each section is done by color. Blue jeans aren't organized and I need to figure one out lol. But my shorts are from longest to shortest. Been this way since 2014. Oh and I put box up my seasonal clothes. So wardrobe is usually seasonally appropriate, but I keep a few favorites out year round
Great video!! I have been color coordinating my clothing for sometime now using the rainbow method and the the other color coding method you mentioned by default! So cool to see you demonstrate it especially the using the dominant color in a pattern piece as a guide for placement. Love your videos!!

Hello Judith. I was recently introduced to you by my friend. I saw this video and had to click. I too coordinate my closet. It’s by type of item, color (including patterns and dominating color) and has to flow (pants then shirts and so on). These days I don’t have a favorite color. I wear a variety. I do like at least one pop of color though. Great video!
How do I use two color sequences??? I noticed you put the blue with color and not neutrals. So it looks like you’re going red yellow green blue purple pink tan gray white black.

I always love looking at these color coordinate rows of clothes. But can never applied it to my own warddrobe since my clothes are 70% black 10% blue 7.5% white 7.5% grey. 5% the othrr colors
Do you keep dresses, suit jackets and pants separate? I had everything together, but felt things were getting lost…. Today I’m separating them and now my rainbow looks out of whack 😩
