🧘‍♀️🩺If we haven’t met yet, I am Jocelyn, a Labor and Delivery nurse and Prenatal Yoga instructor of 20 years. I combine education, yoga, breathing, and a whole lot of experience to help mamas just like you prepare themselves for an amazing birth story.
📚There’s a lot of information out there about the best ways to prepare your body for birth. Yoga, pilates, HIT, CrossFit, meditation, labor diets, acupuncture, they all claim to help women get ready to birth.
🩺🧘‍♀️From the perspective of this labor and delivery nurse and prenatal yoga instructor, the two most important things to do to make sure the body is in the ideal condition for a faster and easier delivery are to learn heal, tone, and release your pelvic floor muscles and work on your posture.
Here is why.
Many women are surprised to learn that their pelvic floor muscles are not loose like we often assume, but in fact they are too tight and too high. This impacts our health in many ways. When we become pregnant, it can make it very difficult for the baby to get into an ideal position for delivery and for the baby to move through the pelvis during labor and pushing.
Having the hips and back in the right position, AKA having good posture, will have a major impact on the health of the pelvic floor muscles and give the baby the most space to get into a good position for delivery. This will help labor move more quickly and make pushing easier.
Having a basic understanding of how our pelvic floor muscles work and how to bring them into a balanced and healthy state is critical to preparing for a faster and easier delivery.
