Have you ever replaced the battery on your Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald games? I feel like nothing beats these battery holder replacements so let me know how you fixed yours and how it went!

One thing that helps is having some flux on both contacts you’re trying to flow solder to. It basically makes a bridge for the solder to run through to make the connection way faster and safer, don’t need as much heat for as long, and don’t have to deal with the solder just wanting to cling to one contact

The one thing I'd comment on is that the bit where you used the Screwdriver to pry the battery contacts up and off is unneeded. It's actually super dangerous. Putting pressure and heat on batteries is not safe. Otherwise pretty solid video.
@ThedomiNATION
@ThedomiNATION 4 месяца назад
As I stated in the video, you just use small rotations of the screwdriver. No pressure and most definitely no heat was used during that point

I'd really recommend getting desoldering wick for removing batteries. It’s basically copper ribbon, so you lay it over the point you want to remove solder from and just touch it with your hot iron. It absorbs the liquid solder and you don't have to mess with a screwdriver that could slip and damage a component on the board or a trace, and it's pretty cheap. Also, it removes the old solder which can form cracks if it mixes with the old solder or if you just reuse the old stuff.

Great tutorial! The only thing I don’t understand is using the battery holder instead of a pre-tabbed battery. Only because the batteries are supposed to last 10-15 years, so you’re really only saving yourself a couple minutes every ten years. However, I see a little more purpose in using one for the gen 1 and 2 games since their batteries run out quicker.
@ThedomiNATION
@ThedomiNATION 4 месяца назад
These batteries only last a few years. If they lasted 10-15 years I wouldn’t have had to replace any of my games since the initial replacement. It’s way more convenient to only need to solder once then whenever it runs out just buy a new battery and pop it in instead of having to solder in a pre tabbed battery every time! Plus most people would prefer not soldering all together so I see this as the best option. You do it once and never have to worry again!

Less of a GBA Problem, but saw someone hot swap a battery while a game was on. Allowed the game memory to not be lossed by swapping a new battery in.

Great for RNG manipulation and shiny hunting on gen 3. Can swap between dead battery to hit shiny frames, and then put it back in for events and growing berries.

that's a HUGE soldering iron and solder size to be using on small electronics lol. might be worth getting something meant for surface mount work with a temperature control and some thin solder for better control if doing this regularily.

Yeah I have a smaller soldering iron but it unfortunately doesn’t get hot enough as it’s pretty old. I’ll have to invest in a new one

Actually seeing painting from contest changes the seed according to rng community. In emerald is easier thanks to battle video because not only record frame advancements it also restored the seed that you saw in the contest painting.

Yep that’s a great option for shiny hunting in emerald! I’m actually doing that while hunting for shiny mew! It doesn’t completely fix the issue with soft resets though as I’m pretty sure recording battle videos every 50 or so resets might be quicker depending on what Pokémon you’re trying to soft reset for!

Are there any alternative battery holders. This one is great for gb and gbc, but heard its tight and the legs are too short. Have you tried any other options? This one is more expensive, but uses flex cable instead and might be thinner.

@@ThedomiNATION GB/GBC games have two different battery sizes, cr2025 and cr1616. I think the pokemon games use cr2025, so you'd likely need a different battery holder.

@@ThedomiNATION Yeah, I think GBA only uses cr1616. I double checked and gen 1 and 2 pokemon games use cr2025, except yellow apparently uses cr1616? I'm not sure if the source I'm looking at is wrong, but the battery type should be printed on the circuit board.

I wanted to ask about shiny hunts with Runaways like rayquaza, mew etc. Some say that i must keep my console on on the entire hunt because of the broken RNG meaning that resetting the game returns the seed to 0 and that will make me lose "the progress" of finding a shiny frame. Others say that i dont need to have my gba turned on at all times more like have it turned on like 1 - 2 hours per shiny hunt session (supposly good for the different frames you can get per session and to avoid to hit the same ones) so I wanted to ask: Right now I am shiny hunting rayquaza in emerald. I am running away from it then go back again. I also have my gba turned on all the time (its been like 5 days on right now). Also whenever I want to relax I just keep my gba on but I stay OUTSIDE from the battle (lets just say i stand the in sky pillar all by myself). Am I doing it right or wrong? Does being outside or inside the battle affects the passing of the shiny frames? I happened to see a comment that was saying if I am into the battle the frames stop moving and they are moving only outside of the battle. Having said that, I actually changed my strategy and right now I am leaving my gba turned on and I stay only INSIDE the battle in order to avoid losing some shiny frame that might actually pass by without me catching it. Am I doing it right or wrong? Have I understand anything or I am just saying things that dont really take place? Hope my question is clear and thanks in advance!
@ThedomiNATION
@ThedomiNATION 2 месяца назад
You don’t need to keep your gba turned on! As you said in the second option from what people said, as long as you’re doing hunting sessions of like 1-2 hours, the odds of you hitting the same frames after turning your game off and starting back from frame zero are so extremely unlikely that you shouldn’t have to worry about it! The game runs at 60 frames per second so odds wise you’d be passing a shiny frame every 2 to 2.5 minutes. In a hunting session of 1-2 hours you’ll be passing many shiny frames that you will have a chance of hitting every time you try it! Also you are correct about the passing of time. Rng frames only advance when you are outside of battle! So staying in the battle does not advance your frames until you leave the battle! One more thing is it you really aren’t comfortable with the broken rng. After you do a hunting session, you can go to the battle tower, intentionally lose a battle, then record a battle video. Then for the next hunting session before you start, you can watch your battle video from your trainer card. Watching a battle video advances the frames to when the video was recorded. So if you do this every few hunting sessions, you will most definitely be getting new frames every time! Another alternative (which is what I’m doing when I’m shiny hunting mew) is if you go to lilycove city’s contest hall, there’s paintings of Pokémon on the walls. If you interact with any of the paintings to view them, the game will randomize your seed which will effectively give you normal rng! The seed is only randomized until you soft reset or turn your game off so you would have to save before the paining and interact with it before every hunting session. With how difficult it can be to get to Rayquaza you’re probably better off just not worrying about the rng or doing the battle video method after a few hunting sessions but those are the two options to essentially workaround emerald’s broken rng!

@@ThedomiNATION thanks for your answer it is really helpful. So DURING the hunting sessions (during a little break) which is better in your opinion? 1) staying in battle to "freeze" the rng for a little in order not to miss a shiny frame OR 2) leaving the battle in order to advance the frames and waiting to hit a shiny frame even though there is a chance of missing some of them? (if thats the case I am not entirely certain) Thanks again!
@ThedomiNATION
@ThedomiNATION 2 месяца назад
@@giorgosgiannadakis5062 I typically just stay in battle. But if you plan on recording a battle video to advance your frames for the next hunting session, it’s good to leave the battle for breaks so your battle video is much farther ahead in frames!

@@ThedomiNATION thanks again! I wanted to ask you one more simple question just to clear something out. If I happen to have a ruby or sapphire (with working batteries) or SS and HG in DS, in which you cand find shiny legendaries by soft reseting ..... Can I hard reset my console between hunting sessions or does this by any chance affects the shiny frames or frames in general??
@ThedomiNATION

@@giorgosgiannadakis5062 the shiny frames are based on the game. HGSS don’t have that issue with shiny frames and if your batteries are working in Ruby and sapphire, you’ll have no issues

I won't recommend doing this, unless you sand down the battery holder. Else this will increase the pressure on the shell and eventually end up with broken shell that needs replacement.

I’ve been using these battery holders for years, never had an issue. They cause a slightly tighter fit going into the GBA but they aren’t big enough to cause any sort of damage unless you’re extremely rough with them or put them in incorrectly.
