Gonna be honest Brad, I wasn't a fan at first but now I see the real you. You're a bad ass golfer and you seem like a genuine nice guy. Subbed and watching your content 🏌️👍
Brad your an incredible putter and one of the best putting strokes I have seen. Could you please do a good good labs on your putting technique. You keep the putter head so low to the ground and have incredible face awareness. Thank you.
My swing coach said basically what you said Brad, "short game has to always be good, on the bad days it saves you and the good days it brings home the goods" I know most people love bombing driver (I do too LOL) but I personally love shortage the most because of all the different shots you can hit
Thanks a lot Brad! Your videos are the best! Ever since watching your videos and practicing what you say I have managed to lower my handicap from a 12 to a 7 in just 2 months! You’re a legend! Can’t wait to have you guys in SA one day!
Really great work with these informative videos! From personal experience and seeing it with a lot of golfers; I don't think it was mentioned, but with chipping I think being dedicated on the shot is immensely important. I see so many golfers decelerate on a chip shot and end up duffing it or thinning it across the green. I used to be guilty of this but since adapting more dedication on the shot and a sort of "go long of the pin mindset" my chipping improved a lot!
Great video Brad! While appreciating that you might not be the best person to ask about this given you are exclusively a 60 degree guy, any further details about wedge bounce/selection around the green depending on lie, weather, amount of green to work with, etc would be really interesting!
I literally learned chipping when just getting into golf at 12-13 y.o. and carried through this senior citizens' advice I was paired with that particular day for many years since. The back foot part was right, but he advised to use a regular stance and go to an 8-iron or 7-iron to get the ball rolling. I'm still comfortable with that old shot for a bump and run or even a "get under the trees" type of recovery shot, but have since learned closer to Brad's form for consistent chipping. Great tips!
Thanks, Brad. I do everything you say with a 56. I try to think of it almost as a putting stroke for my weight of chip. I have always played off the back foot and then watched a Phil video where he was back but also very forward. That screwed with my mind, and I went back to the big toe on my rear foot or further if wet. I will move it more forward with a flop. I could use your knowledge on shortish flop shots.
I’ve found that for worse lies such as uphill, downhill or heavy rough, I widen my stance just a bit and make the angle of attack less aggressive so that way I can keep the club face in the striking zone for longer. Hope this helps!
Could we get a video about not so perfect lies. Like from the rough just off the green or rough around bunkers? On a steep upslope in rough? I struggle A TON from the rough. I will add 3 strokes to a hole just getting out of the rough lol. Thanks for everything you do Brad and I can’t wait to see your next video “Escaping the ROUGH” 😂
Good stuff Brad really appreciate it. Questions, how open/closed should the face be? It seems it was pretty neutral for this kind of chip/bumpnrun. I know in the video wear you talk about spin you open the face quite a bit. Is this where the lob shot comes into play? More like a pitch rather than a chip?
Went to the range and tried it out and was amazed by the simplicity of the shot. Tried it with all the wedges… 60 is still the toughest… will need to soften my hands a lot more I guess… the fear of knifing the ball has to go from my mind and can only happen with more practice. Great videos Brad… really effective.
Hey love those video! Any tip for distance control ? Like a clock system ? My contact are ok but i cant figure out how to 'select' my swing speed. Thanks !!!!!!
The one thing about most chipping videos, is that they are all done on a really good lie or conditions. This is a good video, but lots of time we are in the rough or short sided. I would like to see another chipping video based on tougher lies even it might take longer to make (idc if you edit out bad practice shots) but just see how setups may change or to use less bounce or more toe or wrist or whatever. I think that would help a lot of people!
QUESTION. I use the bounce and pick it off pretty clean every shot and use my different wedges to adjust flight, is this less consistent then your method that you use? Would you advise using one club to manipulate the ball and sort of form a relationship with one wedge?
Brad is also a good ball striker. This method will set most amateurs up for failure because you’re bringing in the leading edge and you’ll duff it. If I were most of you, I’d stick with chipping with something lower lofted if you’re looking to score. If you’re looking to mess around go ahead and hit 60.
i tried adding some of the stuff he taught rick shiels into my game. didnt work xD all this release 1, release 2 etc stuff had me getting way to handsy with my chipping and i ended up skullnig almost all my chips across the green. went back to the tried and tested straight arms, almost no wrist and back and though motion, works a treat
How do you choose between doing a chip or a bump and run? For higher handicaps (wassup), do you recommend one over the other? Thanks for the helpful content, Brad!
Brad what length wedges do you play? I know in the fitting video you got an inch or so longer? My wrist to floor says I should be 1-2*s flat with everything. My wedges are currently standard but feel and look way to toe down. They also feel too short. Wondering if I should go an inch longer on my wedges even tho my W/F says I need shorter /flatter LOL
But what about those days when you're not chipping the ball well, not putting overly well, not driving particularly straight and hitting your irons like you normally do.
Is this only for perfect lies? I’d imagine this technique could get the lead edge stuck on something grainy or bad rough if you’re not using as much bounce.
Tried it on bad roughs as well. With the wrist cock and consistent acceleration, if you connect with ball first - aided by the ball behind in your stance - no problems at all. Just need to keep your hands soft so that you don’t stiffen up and jam the club behind the ball… at least that’s what I experienced… Brad could you correct me if I am wrong…
@@RajeshKumar-qt2wd good to know thanks. I could see it working with precision in rough. For a tight grainy lie I would probably go with using more bounce though personally. Just helps with your odds of getting contact hehe
Do you play pool ?. I try and think holding the cue and hitting a long shot softly to the corner pocket to get shape on another shot. That feeling is what soft hands are. Hope it helps. Try to internalize what your intent is and commit. It will come using Brad's tips
...ps Brad I would love if you played more matches on your channel. Four days a month, if someone edits for you. I imagine that is the tough part. Anyway I heard you and Kwan were playing together Feb 7th. I think you and the Wesley brothers have the best chance. I will root for you two. Just as an aside check out the Aussie AKA Ron Chopper. He is a teaching pro who plays matches and also tries to break par on good courses. He is a player, but firstly he is very funny. Enjoy some Ron Chopper
