For those that don't know, this is not mig its FCAW (FLUX CORE ARC WELDING) they have the same semiautomatic process but this one is dual process with gas shielded and flux shielded.
@@Ben-tr flux core is stronger, but flux is usually ran uphill...solid wire can be very strong welds also, basically it depends on the experience of the hand holding the lead. In our shop it's a no no to run flux downhill...don't know why this guy is doing it. Solid wire can make nice downhill welds.
Arc retreating into the nozzle is a sign of slow wire speed. Also, you hold the torch too close to the workpiece. You just get a ton of slag onto the nozzle and you don’t get any significant gas coverage.
With MIG welding you don't usually need to use a chipping hammer to get the slag off The shield gas usually stops that from forming which tells me that is flux core welding
Grande.!!
@@austin3626 any structural design forbids downhill welding for a reason. Penatration is the reason. You get much less in downhill welds. All structural codes require uphill...as in bridges, buildings, anything that flies, rolls, or floats...get it?
If you're weaving on a CWB test plate in Canada the inspector will fail you on the spot unless it's a cap. Stringers are standard procedure just about everywhere.
@Sam Digman It's not because of parameters... It's because you're skipping over the root and will be a guaranteed lack of penetration... a CWI would fail you because he's not going to waste his time continuing... the only time you might get away with this is vertical up or a hot pass tig on pipe (walking the cup)
@@ChefKustom Yes can do. Just need some time to fit in between jobs. Very busy in my shop at the moment. If you are serious can let you know after i have posted the video. 👍
What is the difference between vertical up and down? I use a miller 145 d/c smaw for maintenance at trucking terminals and use MR 7018 1/8 rods and vertical up seems messy compared to vertical down. Thank you.
@@chadmoyer1453 vertical up welding is more structural welding and coded welding the grain structure of a vertical up weld is more ductility and flex therefore can take more stresses and strain down hand the grain structure is more solid and weaker also i can vertical up and over head weld with MMA process and still have a neat tidy weld
I been to welding school and I have welded alittle but I could be wrong but that look more 6g 45angle or maybe plate is 4g ether way didnt look vertical and I was always told never run down the only thing that runs down is shit always weld up
Wow! Kids, this IS NOT the video to watch to learn how to weld! Forget EVERYTHING you just saw! Find a video made by a certified welder with an AWS or Equivalent by country, credibility! Stay away from everyone else until you know right from wrong. Not every non certified welder is a bad welder, But ALL certified welders are good welders!
Oh no their not. There are different classes of welders. I was first class at the shipyard I worked to. You would be shocked at just how bad many certified welders are. And you weld the doorways on some coastguard vessels 6011 downhand. 28 years experienced production welder mig, dualshield fluxcore ceramic backing and of course stick welding.
So how does mig have slag after the weld? Im a mig welder and there is no slag that needs chipping at all. Your heading/title should say something like flux core weld. .

In 45 years of welding I have never had to chip of slag after doing any MIG Welding the gas cover protects the weld pool . I can weld Arc Gas Mig and Tig and a coded welder
