I use the optoma 4k projector. Can’t recommend it enough. Doesn’t have some of the bells and whistles this one has but it’s 1/5th the price. Plus it has to option to do 3D.

I'll stick with my 65" 4K TV for now. Actually, if I was spending that kind of money, I'd still go with a 4K TV. I could get two 85" 4K TV's for that price and a sound bar for both and probably still have some money left over.

I saw it in the same format as well. It may have been my 4th viewing (3rd theatrically overall), but watching the movie jetlagged especially during the stargate sequence was something else.

That's great John. It looks like you have your own mini theater. I remember watching The Dark Knight in a drive-in with a huge blowup projector when I was in college. During one of the action scenes, the wind blew the whole projector forward almost onto the cars. It was reset, but overall it was still a great experience with a great movie. The movie that transcends me to somewhere else is "300". That was the movie that got me addicted and looking forward to other movies. It's the only movie I saw 3 times in the theater.

John I have a similar setup. I recommend you get an ALR projector screen. It’ll make the projector experience even better with black levels even with natural light during the day. Life changing.

Right? And even for the people who could afford it I don't even think it's good for $6,000. For that price you could buy a 75 inch 8K OLED Tv and I guarantee the picture quality and overall experience is leagues above this projector.

Great video John! I've been thinking of getting a 4K projector for awhile now but I haven't decided on which one but I think you just helped me lol. One question though, how is the picture quality/resolution on this LG projector and big screen compared to a 4K blu ray player on let's say a 55" 4K Tv? Would you say it's better or worse, or just the same but bigger screen like I said.

Projectors can't match the contrast levels of the best (OLED) TVs, but they can still give great picture quality with the bonus of huge screen size. My screen is 100" but my (ceiling-mounted) projector can produce up to a 300" picture if I had a huge enough room!

I would definitely recommend just getting rid of the screen and getting projector screen paint for the wall if you intend to keep it there. Or get a screen that fits the space better and isn't warped.

Man I extremely miss going to the movie theater.. haven't been since jumanji next level. Which is by far the longest time away from the theater. But a couple months ago I bought a 70 inch 4k Sony bravo HDR TV. With surround bar system all together was a way to much $1800 lol.. but as a movie buff its a amazing experience watching movies at home now.. I watched Dunkirk on 4k and its breathtaking man.. definitely get that.. but it's great investment I made on my home theater system.

My favorite immersive experiences of all time are Back to the Future, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Ready Player One (Don't judge me, John! I like what I like and it's a fun experience IMO), Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War and both Infinity War & Endgame! :)🙂🙂

Hey John! Great video as always. Dark Knight and Interstellar (and practically any Christopher Nolan movie) are some of my tops in 4K because of his eye and use of IMAX cameras. That said, believe it or not, a favorite in terms of directing, storytelling, and visual beauty is The Adventures of Tin Tin. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it. While it's digitally animated it has a lot of charm and care.

I'll be building a 120" home theater next summer and will be getting an ultra-short throw projector. I know I'll be paying more for the ease of setup but it's worth it in my opinion.

Are you not going to have surround speakers? Because you might as well do things properly if you're building a dedicated room. With an ultra-short throw projector, the projector itself sits right where your center channel should be. It's not difficult to install a ceiling-mounted projector, I managed to do it a couple of years ago while setting up my movie room.

@@rosstee I've had this projector installed for about two months now with a full 9.2.4 surround sound system. It sits behind my center channel and just disappears once the movie starts. I'm sure it would be distracting for some but I don't notice it.

I just prefer ceiling-mounted projectors as they get rid of that little issue, though I suppose you could use this with an acoustically transparent screen and put the speakers behind. Would kind of prevent the clean look to still see the projector itself though!

Possibly, but I'd recommend a less expensive ceiling-mounted projector for equally good picture quality, and an AV receiver to handle surround sound with your preferred number of speakers. These short-throw projectors block the ideal position for a center speaker.

BTW yesterday I saw Dawn of The Planet of The Apes on Blu Ray. Fantastic film and I could just watch those apes communicating with each other all day! Beautiful quality. I'm glad I bought it.
