yeah imo shotguns are utility weapons, when i face anything big i use a shotgun to cripple them and then go in with a chainsaw (still dont have a good auto axe ☹️)

I have a vampire gauss shotgun and bloody gauss shotgun and the bloody 1 shots glowing behemoths with its 2200 damage per hit

@@AmeliaRomanov Hi, Sarah. I'd love to see your build. I'm guessing that's with adrenaline maxed out? I stopped using bloodied when I no longer was able to one-shot level 100 super mutants, after Bethesda ruined it (this was long after the update that replaced multiplicative with additive damage, so that's not the cause) and mostly use vampires just to keep up and running. I think I get somewhere around 800 or 900 damage with the bloodied, but I haven't checked it recently. I remember when it first came out, I was able to maybe two-shot a level 100 behemoth, but I don't think I was ever able to one-shot it. I still think the gauss shotgun is one of the best, most durable, and ammunition-efficient weapons in the game for anything but bosses.

@@jeffbarnesyout I'm using amped up stats and enhanced sneak crits but that's not counting double the damage on headshots when I'm avoiding vats in power armor

Someone already posted combat shotgun against Earl, but that's with perfect gear. It'll take long to acquire unless bought on ebay.

Love my caster! I’ve tried all the guns available and I’ve settled on that as one of my main guns for months now. Slow, but 2-3 shots just about everything for me!

I too am a fan of the Caster. Providing some of the biggest crit damages with or without vats 1400- 3000. But requires some gold to get those crit mods.

3rd person adds tons of advantages but I just love 1st person games. The only 3rd person game I ever got into was WOW. I don't know why but I will take the disadvantage just to stay in the real world immersion.

I thought I had all the plans for chainsaw but I don't have the flame mod. Is that a plan you have to buy or is it something I need to scrap chainsaws to get? I google searched this and found nothing.

@@gametime2473 You can't learn the flamer mod. You have to buy it from NPC vendors, but fortunately it's really common from traders in the Ash Heap region. I always get mine from the Welch train station.

Yeah, I have a +50 crit version but generally use my +50 VATS accuracy version just because it is SO accurate for every day use and I don't really need the extra damage to finish bosses quickly.

What are good legendaries for it I was thinking q25fr25vc, q50c25vc

@@jesusrivera8909 quad is nice but the real numbers happen with bloodied and anti then 50 bonus Crit is the king second star with any other vats related perk being the third star. Fire rate is nice but not completely necessary imo because you'll be one hitting everything but definitely worth keeping. The key is every second shot being a Crit with 33+ luck

​@@gametime2473 2shot/+25 damage 2* with party boy perk X3, and sweetwater special for 90%accuracy is what I use. Or the AA/FFR/15. Phenomenal weapons!

It is not stupid, it is one aspect of balancing strong weapons. The deathclaw gauntlet does not double dip into 2 perk categories anymore, that is true. It still is a viable melee weapon for unarmed builds.

@@Square-0ne it's one of like two unarmed weapons that are useable. Also for balance, what's so balanced about nuking unarmed possible damage 1. Can't use power armor 2. No ranged capabilities 3. Forced to use bloodied for any meaningful damage Not to mention without it the only perks you get is a measly 20% buff. How's it so balanced that something like the pepper shaker gets up to 105% off of perks alone but somehow 80% on generally underpowered melee weapons was too much. Hell to even get that flat damage increase you already sacrificed insicor, martial art and maybe even the blocker perk. Wouldn't be such a big deal if it wasn't for the fact that unarmed is neutered in comparison to the gods of auto axe and chainsaw which are now even more encouraged to be used. You already hardly see unarmed builds and when it comes to melee in general all you see are auto axes and chainsaws. The only thing that even comes close to reconciling the unnecessary nerfed damage of unarmed is the unique 10% per strength, but to even make ends meat with that unique buff you need to abuse food items, unyielding and any + strength you can find, oh wait doesn't matter cause AA/CS scale off the same stat even if at a lower rate they can be used fast for high damage, unarmed and any other melee weapon has to be slowly swung, even more sluggish for a power attack only helped by legendary effects and a single perk card. Yeah safe to say, unarmed didn't need this nerf in the slightest when they were already hardly used by the playerbase, all it did was make a rare build even harder to actually utilize to decent effectiveness. Oh let's not even mention bossing, unarmed was already hard to kill bosses with especially compared to AA/CS but now it's even harder, only thing it shined in was mobbing really but damn near everything does that just fine anyways

@@dragonmaster3030 Power armor has its arm pieces (unarmed) with modifiers and having U.A. weapons seperated from PA counters the inherent advantages of PA. No ranged capability - it is a melee weapon. Bloodied is not necessary. One tapping is not a metric for success or fun. There are other weapons in the unarmed category like the mole miner gauntlet, boxing glove, power first or the bear arm which are enjoyable. The adjustments make it easier to adjust the game in future updates and the recent updates and cleanups seem to be preparations for a unreleased potential balance pass. I agree that there are some outliers at the top which need to be tuned to be more in line with the rest of the weaponry.

@@Square-0ne unarmed is the only build in the game forced from PA. Every other build can be used in PA which is a major debuff in itself not to mention to get reasonable defense you already need to spec completely in agility and strength plus 2 perks. 6 perk points down and many others just to increase a specific stat because of defense unless you like being made of paper. Even if you use bolstering your now killing one of the most helpful things for your damage output. Really, melee weapons have no range, obviously but in general it's still a general disadvantage when you can just use a gun. One tapping isn't a metric of success but unless you want drugs 24/7 and food hunting between every few events just for decent damage your gonna need bloodied. Let's face it, mole miner gauntlet is just poor man's deathclaw gauntlet, powerfist to me at least feels awkward to use and bear arm I havnt cared to touch because of it's swing speed. At least we can agree on some things needing to be toned down. On another note the Gatling lasers and plasma should get a condition increase. Plasma breaks after like 3 cores and lasers aren't much better. Miniguns last 10x as long despite them being functionally the same and without explosive variants running around now you can't even say their over powered especially when you can have a tt explosion minigun

@@burr9720 If you're actively farming lead and acid and... Sure. If you just want to play and discover story and not pick shit up and not be encumbered and not have to manage things you can't. Some people just come to games like Fallout for the story. We're not all here for the grind.

I thought the power attack was the thing that affected the chainsaw, not FSS. Am I mistaken?

@@gametime2473 From what I've read FSS just makes it spin up faster, which is actually more handy than you'd think. I had a FSS/90 drop, my commando keeps it in his back pocket for close-in work. Even without melee perks it's pretty devastating.

@@gametime2473 that's what I originally thought, but after asking around on Reddit I found out FSS is actually really useful on these, and that the majority of players preferred FSS over 40PA

I do 1700 every second shot with my caster, I do use buffs

I can get mine up to 2k every second shot. That is very reliant on the roll and buffs, though. AA50c15c Plasma Caster + all crit and damage boosts.

I also use a plasma caster and it is effective against bosses, and there are different ways to do a critical hit every two hits in power armor. However, with the same build if you want to do a speed run, use the napalmer with a lot of coffee, the latter is much more efficient ;)

Don't forget about the humble colas themselves. With Cola Nut you can get close to the AP regen from canned coffee along with some other bonuses like healing, rad resists, and rad reduction. Might want to steer clear of Nuka-Grapes if you run bloodied/unyielding though.

Imo, I don’t like how everything is about using coffee now. Kinda ridiculous

Bloody is def the best on its own, but when you take into account the synergy from other things(like unyielding) avoidance of takeing dmg and so on the low hp builds is just crazy good as you say.

I have a Qe90 Railway and it's still really good without the 25lvc

I've got an instigating explosive 25% ap cost railway rifle. I like to pair it with grenades.

Yeah, I run damage perks but just the best bang for the buck ones. Weight saving and food preserving perks make life so much easier in game and I keep the junk weight saving perk just in case I need it but it rarely happens.

I mean I've seen Earl fights fail because of the timer - if you don't have strong damage dealers in that one it gets very hairy.

One question, how controllable is it, I have a prime two shot ffr weight reduction and even with stabilized that thing is damn near uncontrollable

@Dragon Master both those prefixes will make it recoil a lot. highly recommend a AA/Bloodied/Aristocrats with damage while aiming or explosive. I have a AA AP refresh you can have for free if you're on ps4/5?

Im a heavy build and thus have many weapons of choice, personally I find this particular weapon incredibly ridiculous so I want to keep it, I have others weapons that are more usable but thanks for the offer

@@mrg2852 The shredder somehow drains AP (even though the weapon spins because of the attached battery) and when you run out of AP it stops spinning and movement with it is heavily limited compared to what it was.

I was in RR the other day and a guy with a grenade launcher was one shorting everything. I wondered what his build and weapon effects were, but it was annoying having those massive explosions going off constantly. I get people want to maximize their xp gains, but just like legacy spammers, you don't have to kill everything instantly to get it. I use a quad Tesla on most of my toons and on one I use an explosive .50 machine gun. It isn't disruptive and it doesn't kill things so fast that nobody else has a chance to tag stuff. People seem to think if they don't get the kill they won't get the xp. You don't have to do much damage for it to count!

@@James_Bee I think if you are on their team and they get the kill, you get xp. Does that sound right to you to? I think I just figured that out a couple weeks ago if true. It was a couple gat plas legacy guys killing everything and I just joined their team and I am 99% sure I was getting xp from their kills in RR.

It's tragic how underpowered the Gauss minigun is compared to other options

Here's a tip if you have the means. Swap to over eaters as you main effect. Vanguard is one of the most useless effects in the game and reason is diminishing returns. To give you an idea. T-65 with a full set of Vanguard gives a .5 damage reduction increase roughly. Overeaters gives 36 in power armours case because of the helmet and its percentage not additive like Vanguard.

Far as I know from a week ago: The vap nozzle shoots about one square building block length. The second one shoots 2 square distance. The standard shoots 4 squares. The extended barrel attachment does absolutely nothing to the weapon… other then incorrectly display weapon statistic numbers. I currently use the second nozzle attachment. But it’s still a big drop in damage compared to vap nozzle. I pretty convinced that there is a clown at Bethesda that is biased towards/against curtain play-styles and builds/weapons

It's poop for killing bosses solo

They fixed it but now you don't get good range with the strong nozzle. So you might as well stick with standard unless you want to be literally touching the bosses to do damage.

AA is a must have vs Earl. He has the highest armor grade of the bosses

that's the point with all the buffs needed to kill earle in 9 minutes with shotguns you will kill him 10 times faster with best weapons

good roll on an aligned flamer, stabilized stock, reflex sights. standard bloodied commando build but replace with rifleman perks instead. spam canned coffee and shoot it in VATs. that's literally it.

You need to do keep doing all the dropped connection events, it takes a lot of tries but you can either get a flamer mod or a weapon with the flamer.

I took on earl with a vamp shredder once, it didn't seem to hurt him much. Chewed through the little wendigos though.

@@russellborn515 Improve your strength equip bashing perk some chem buff like Fury and psycobuff and of course, shredder had to have bashing star. Stabilized I think work in PA and without PA the best is unyielding and ONE for the team is other 40%

You can heal your teammembers using a medics weapon healing you and your teammates with every critshot. You can heal npcs like the scavengers in rad rumble or teammates using flaming weapons amd the charisma perk friendly fire. You can also heal other players via team medic perk on charisma.
