I think one of the issues of the Rode system is that when it came out there was still a patent in the USA the prevented recording on the transmitter and wirelessly transmitting. They had to use some proprietary method of recording on the transmitter to get around this. Why they haven't changed it is because they probably want everyone to use Rode Central for all their products.

I don't know how I got here, but this was a great video! Great production Edit: As for the audio quality comparison between the microphones, I didn't notice much of a difference during the normal quiet use-case, but I thought the DJI mic had a way better quality in the sports field testing

Thanks so much for this review. The DJI is the mic setup I was looking to get and this just further confirms it. I do however have a couple of ‘rookie’ questions. In the review you talked about the recording function and how that can be set up. As a Golf RU-vid creator, I’ll often vlog solo. So if the transmitter is always on record, I take it the receiver will only get that audio to put on the SD card when I press record on the camera? I imagine if I’m recording to the internal storage that the continual record will be exactly that? And I will need to stop and start recording? I know, crazy questions, right? Could I ask, if you could do a golf vlog with the DJI to show how best to use the system, or what the best setup would be for a course vlog or review vlog, please? You’ve not got me as a subscriber 👍

Hey Rob, you are correct. Internal recording of the transmitter and the camera recordings are two seperate things. So even if you record continuously on the recorder, the camera will only record audio when you press record on the camera itself.

Also, I'd like to help with the golf vlog but i doubt that will happen to be honest. I never film golf and I have zero contacts in the golf world around here. But I don't see why it would be different from any other vlog. Just make sure you have a good tripod to capture yourself when you're swinging.

On the rode go2 you can choose to change the programmable button which can also act as turning the internal recording on and off ☝️

It's weird, I like the sound of the RODE when you are inside, but the DJI I think sounds better when outside. With the inside audio the RODE has a deeper sound and I could hear more hissing with the DJI, but it was the opposite when you had the outside/arena tests. I think that fact that both record internally as well is a huge thing. Personally I've been really happy with my RODE products, but I like a lot of the little features that DJI includes.

There's still a fair bit of echo/reverb in my office so maybe the Rode handles that better than the DJI.

Hi, I love your videos. I saw the review you did for the sony a6400 and I loved it the thing is that I can't really spend that much money on a camera. I can only afford the sony a6100 so that I can afford to buy a wireless mic. I want to film mic'd up videos (for soccer). But I'm not sure if the a6100 will be a good camera for that! What do you think? I would really love to hear your opinion. Please? 🙏

Hey man, you could definitely record a mic'ed up video with this camera but it won't be easy because I'm pretty sure it doesn't have any mic input. So if that's the case it means that you would need to record the audio separately and then sync in in post. And doing that for 1 or 2 hours worth of footage can be a very tedious job. But if you have the patience, it can be done.

How is the latency on the DJI? Does it get out of sync the longer your recordings go?

I haven’t heard any noticeable latency but I didn’t test it properly with a super long recording.

Recording a band with just one mic is tricky because the instruments closer to the mic will be much louder than the rest. You’ll have to use an omnidirectional mic, keep a safe distance from the band and hope for the best. You can’t put a mic in a drone though. Even if you could, all you would hear is the drone’s propellers.

My son wants me to mic him up during a soccer game. My question is, we don’t have sophisticated camera and I was going to shoot with an iPhone, I saw in the video there was an attachment to hook up the receiver to the iPhone. Is the quality just as good or any “glitches” you ran into while using a mobile device? Awesome video btw!

What is the best lavalier mic for the dji mics? I’ve been seeing reviews saying there has been a lot of interference for Rode and Sony lavaliers with dji, could you let me know your go to lavalier and other ones you recommend please?

Here's a question, I know little of action camera's, but here is what i want to do. With helmet mount on bike, be able to record to the action camera what i am listening to on bluetooth via iphone 13 to my airpods. Is this possible? everyone just says go edit it but if it could be done natively it is worth it to me for time. talking would be good, not not better than music. iphone supports multiple BT connections.

Usually, the only thing you can connect to an action camera via Bluetooth is the phone app that goes with it. That being said, I don’t know all the new models so maybe what you’re suggesting is possible but I would doubt it. You can’t even do that with a full size camera.

Depends how far you are from the camera. I couldn’t tell you a specific safe distance but if you’re only a few feet away it should always be fine. Worst case scenario, the internal recording in the transmitter will always work no matter how far away you are.

@@celtic5torm59 if you use a vest to keep the transmitter on the player’s back, it should fine. Keep in mind, all professional rugby players wear a gps tracker at that exact same spot for a reason. It is the safest spot. But considering the players don’t wear shoulder pads, it’s the lavalier mic at the front that will be at risk. Otherwise, your only issue with the Saramonic is that there is no internal recording. And with so many players on the field, your signal will cut out from time to time.

Hello everyone. I bought the DJI MIC wireless microphone to attach to referees at rugby matches. On RU-vid I saw some evidence of coverage distance and it reached up to 250 meters, even if the person carrying the transmitter had his back to the receiver. I have tested the DJI MIC by placing the microphone on the referee of the rugby match and when the referee has his back to the receiver the sound comes with noises. Is there any way to fix it? Do you know of any wireless microphone that can do this function well? Thanks.

Like I say in the video, RF interference plays a big role in your issue. If you are broadcasting live, that means you have a lot of RF activity therefor all these signals are interfering with each other.

I can't express the importance here of knowing when to *not mic* up an athlete. You can get an athlete in big trouble if you have a mic on them in public school and NCAA competitions. Then, if they get injured - by your equipment - you are squarely liable, as your interaction led to rules and regulations not being followed. Also, you usually don't have permission from the other athletes in the competition. People expect their whispered conversations to be drowned out by the noise. I've fired contractors after finding out they've done these things for other organizations. They are too risky - if you can't respect the rules of the game, I'm not turning my company into a liability shield.
