Appreciate you walking us through your thought process. Personally, I find it easier to shoot everything in SLOG3. I set my lower limit to 94+ and as soon as I see Zebras, I back it off by 1/3 of stop. As you mentioned, the key is to preserve your highlights at all costs. For an evenly lit scene, I'll use IRE 41 +/- 1 along with a grey card and it gets me perfect exposure every time. It took me the better part of year to figure all this stuff out since I was fairly new to video 🤣
