Great video! Its good to see that the Open Home Foundation has committed to certifying Zwave-JS. I think Home Assistant recommend using a USB2 port and an extension cable to get the device away from the high frequency noise that is emitted from USB3 ports.
I think it's pretty much universally accepted to run any transceiver (Zigbee/Zwave/Bluetooth) as far from the hub as possible. Ideally with an USB extender and usually to run them as USB 2 not 3. After all 480mbs is fine to run all those adaptors simultaneously. Thanks for contributing, its great to know there is someone out there :)
Z-wave was my first smart home equipment about 10+ years ago. It was very hard to find devices in Australia back then, much better now. Z-wave is still my most reliable equipment, far better than my ZigBee gear. I'm even still using a lot of those 10+ year old sensors and switches.
Hi Sparky, totally agree, its a far superior network, but due to the certification the devices do then to be a little more expensive and hence not as widely adopted. Saying that, it is huge in America compared to AUS. Check out www.smarthome.com.au for devices, they have a wide range and amazing prices. MS7 on Amazon $120, and $77 on SmartHome !! And no I don't get commission lols.
Thanks for the information. I think I will give z wave a go! I have been using Home Assistant for a number of years. Using zigbee, Wifi, Bluetooth. Usually watch you tube on TV, harder to comment!
Hi Jimbo, Zigbee is amazing for its simplicity and easy of execution, but Zwave is a technically better protocol. The way is can rebuild its network to optimize the routes is brilliant and something that Zigbee needs to implement.
I brought this in addition to a home assistant yellow to replace an aging Vera Plus and i am find it to frequently jam and fail to respond requiring a reboot of the home assistant to resolve
Interesting. Try sticking to firmware versions 7.12.2 to 7.19.x. Are you using a USB extension cable? Also check out community.home-assistant.io/t/aeotec-zwave-stick-problems/352714 This might give you a clue to the root cause.
