No single work has shaped Western civilization more than the Bible. In this provocative seven-part series, renowned archaeologist John Romer traces the roots of the world's most important book in light of archaeological evidence. When the Emperor Constantine elevated Christianity to the official religion of the Roman Empire, the once-persecuted sect took on the trappings of imperial power--nowhere more evidently than at the magnificent Hagia Sophia in Constantinople (present-day Istanbul).

Long before Constantine, 21 books were acknowledged by all Christians (the 4 Gospels, Acts, 13 Paul, 1 Peter, 1 John, Revelation). There were 10 disputed books (Hebrews, James, 2 Peter, 2-3 John, Jude, Ps-Barnabas, Hermas, Didache, Gospel of Hebrews) and several that most all considered heretical-Gospels of Peter, Thomas, Matthaias, Acts of Andrew, John, etc. Liberal scholars and fictional authors like to purport the idea that the gospels of Thomas and Peter (and other long-disputed books) contain truths that the church vehemently stomped out, but that simply has no basis historically. It is closer to the truth to say that no serious theologians really cared about these books because they were obviously written by people lying about authorship and had little basis in reality. That is one reason why a council declaring the canon was so late in coming (397 AD), because the books that were trusted and the ones that had been handed down were already widely known.

Your life matters, the message of the Bible is that Jesus Christ, the son of God was willingly punished for the evilness of humanity. He loved you so much that He was willing to die a horrible, brutal death. He was punished instead of us. But the only way to actually be forgiven and make His sacrifice effective in your life, is by believing in Him and trusting that His sacrifice was for you. Do so, and you will have eternal life. God loves you and so do I, God bless you.

The Bible was written over a span of fifteen hundred years, by forty different authors, in three languages, on three different continents. And some authors were unaware of what was written before or what came after, forming sixty-six books of a single, God-inspired, integrated message: His perfect plan for our Salvation. The Earth is where the Biblical story begins. Salvation is what His story is about, and Jesus, the Word of God, is the story's hero.

I haven't heard a word of this documentary yet but I just know what they're going to say. Here's something to keep in mind: DO NOT conflate Catholicism with Christianity. They are NOT the same. Just as you would reject an obviously counterfeit bill, once you know what Christianity looks like, you automatically reject all pretenders.
@علي-ش7ث8ب
@علي-ش7ث8ب Год назад
how they're not the same?
@GizmoFromPizmo
@GizmoFromPizmo Год назад
A better question might be, "How are they similar?" Catholicism is nothing more than the religion of the Roman Empire dressed up to look Christian. It takes more than hijacking a few names and places to become Christian. A Christian is a disciple of Christ, therefore, a Christian is one who follows the teachings of Christ and the apostles. Catholicism does not teach discipleship. I can't scribble "100 Dollars" on a piece of paper and then call it legal tender. It's an obvious forgery - a counterfeit. The same holds true of Catholicism. You can't say, you're the church of Christ and then violate nearly every precept of Christianity. That dog won't hunt. But it's good enough for the world at large, right? I mean, the world doesn't care what something is at its heart, just as long as it gets the names right. A doctor might still be a doctor even though, all he is in reality is a glorified drug pusher. A politician may take the oath of office but then violate every principle he is sworn to uphold. When a liar claims something, the world is happy to believe him. Not so with the God of truth and justice. The New Testament defines what a Christian is. A person who knows the New Testament can easily compare what he knows against what is being passed in front of him. If you know the New Testament, you can smoke out a pretender pretty quickly. Catholicism is just pretending.

@@GizmoFromPizmo I agree with you,"Christianity" is a Roman political ideology,Romans,Byzantines and the Catholic Church used this ideology for political reasons and it was implemented by force and persecution,all other "sects" which believed in Jesus were "wiped out". Unfortunately,most Christians refuse to recognize this simple fact,people who believed in Jesus in what's today Iraq ,Syria,North Africa and even Germanic and Gothic tribes were heavily persecuted. When Islam appeared a lot of them saw similarities between Islam and their belief in Jesus so they converted,others chose to keep their faith but they join Muslims in their war against the persecution of the Byzantine Empire. You should read about how "Christians" Arabs,Copts,Berbers,Goths,Vandals fought against Rome and Byzantium defending their faith even before Islam. *Later on the Catholic Church did the exact same thing to "European" nations,the Reformation and the Renaissance were a continuation of the war against this evil Roman ideology.*
@GizmoFromPizmo
@GizmoFromPizmo Год назад
Well, you do not agree with me because you seem to have ignored everything I wrote. The disciples were first called "Christians" in the mid-first century (See Acts 11:26). This pre-dates that Roman abomination by at least 2 centuries. Catholicism is NOT Christianity, or as I like to say: Catholicism ≠ Christianity Also, we have Gnostics in today's religions. They were never wiped out. Jehovah's Witnesses are decidedly Gnostic and, as you point out, so are Muslims. The Mystery Religions will be with us until the end of time, as revealed by the Book of Revelation. Gnosticism is not Christianity either. For a deeper dive on this topic, I encourage you to pick up and read the New Testament. You will find it describing a much different religion than what is available in the mainstream. This is by design. Jesus told us that we would always be a small minority. When I hear that there are one billion Christians on earth today, I chuckle. There is NO WAY there are that many people saved from their sins on planet earth. There's a lot of shuckin' and jivin' in the religion department where Christianity is concerned. They say that the United States is a Christian nation. That's not possible. Nations can't become Christians, only people can. Islam, like Catholicism, was spread at the point of a spear. I call Islam, "Catholicism's Mini-Me" (a reference to the old Austin Powers movies). Mini-Me was a tiny person dressed up to look like the main villain of the movie. Islam is Catholicism's Mini-Me. Just as evil, only smaller. So, we don't agree at all. Catholicism bears little to no resemblance to the thing she advertises herself to be. She looks more like Roman Paganism than she does Christianity. From multiple gods (patron saints), to the governing hierarchy, to the forced conversions. It's all the old Roman system and nothing that looks Christian - if you KNOW what Christianity looks like, that is.

@@GizmoFromPizmo I wrote Christians between " and " because Jesus followers don't have a common name. I wrote wiped out between " and " because I know some ideas not whole sects survived the persecution,what happened to Arianism for example? I read the NT and I have a good idea on it,a lot of other scriptures written by Jesus followers disappeared mostly because of religious persecution,why do you think that Archeologists always find these ancient scriptures hidden in caves in remote places?! ,Romans played a great role in the making of the NT as we know it today,so do you really trust the NT? Comparing Islam to Catholicism is simply wrong,Muslims established religious freedom while Byzantines fought to keep religious persecution,people who lived in the Muslim World enjoyed religious freedom while "Europeans" who lived under the Church suffered from a terrible religious persecution. I know that you think that you're following the true teachings of Jesus, other Christians including Catholics think the same. Tell me what are these true teachings,you can start by the nature of Jesus of course with sources.

@GizmoFromPizmo
@GizmoFromPizmo 4 месяца назад
@@SKILLIUSCAESAR - You consider the source. If you can't properly identify the author of a document or mesh it with established doctrine then you throw it out. For example: The Epistle of James violates canon in a few important ways but it has been included in the New Testament because the author is a known source - the brother of Jesus. Matthew's gospel tells of graves opening and the dead being raised. This was a false doctrine that was available in the first century but we keep the Gospel in the New Testament because it's not super-flawed - it's mostly good material. Luke's gospel doesn't tell about the disciples returning to Galilee to receive the Great Commission (like Matthew's Gospel does) but we keep it in the New Testament because it tells a history that we wouldn't otherwise have. The Book of Hebrews isn't a "Gospel" (i.e. a story about the life and times of Jesus) but it is by far the most theologically dense book in the entire New Testament. It explains the "Why" of Jesus better than any other single book. The New Testament is an amazing work the way it is. Nobody would mind if, for example, they found Paul's epistle to the Laodiceans and they added it to the New Testament. Why? Because it's a letter of Paul. It probably wouldn't contain any new information but it would be an additional witness to what has already been taught. The New Testament in its current form is the best compendium of apostolic teaching that exists on planet earth. It wouldn't be prudent to add second and third century forgeries to compete with the very words of the men who were commanded to "teach all nations".

A couple of years ago South Africa ranked as having the highest prevalance of FAS (Fetal Alcohol Syndrome). Predominantly prevalent within black and coloured communities. What we have realize is that it didn't simply spring up overnight,. Rather, it was a gradual, conscientious process that had served several purposes through the history of Christian South Africa. All by design, all inspired, by the Holy Spirit, zealous Christian missionaries, merchants, pilgrims and settlers. On 17 April 1658, Van Riebeeck, Governor of the Cape, wrote in his diary: _"Began holding schools for young slaves. To stimulate slaves to attention while at school, and _*_to induce them to learn Christian prayers,_*_ they were promised each _*_a glass of brandy and two inches of tobacco,_*_ when they finish their task."_ (Horrell, 1970: 3)
