The Bible Series - The Angel Gabriel 

The reason why Gabriel is wearing armor (in my own opinion) is because they wanted to portray him as a warrior of God. Also, since archangels are supposed to be warriors and messengers of God, I believe this is a very wise decision in the costumes they gave the actors. They look very noble, as if they were real warriors of God.

I love how he says "He will be the son of the Most High" those powerful words always make my heart smile, for I know the Lord loves me and he strengthens me and when I give everything to Him, He blesses me with things some can't have. Follow GOD and you shall surely be blessed.

I'm sure it's the producers way of tying all the angels in this production together, the other angels in the show wear the same thing, including the 'wings' ring.

Remember the Romans (Italians), Greeks, Arabs, and Jews were/are Mediterranean/MidEastern people they can range from being brown skinned or olive to being very dark skinned. Constitently throughout ancient history they've all described in their pagan or monotheistic religious texts that the beings of Heaven as being Nordic beings while they were much darker earthlings.

The scenes around these two - Mary is showing (preg) a little too soon dont you think? Never quite understood why the angel at that particular time (Romans coming for taxes) - its not scriptural. The angel appearing as a child to Joseph (not scriptural).

Not exactly but I know where you are coming from. The Angels are more of our brothers than Jesus' because of our origins. Like humans, the Angels have not always been in existence. They at some point were also created by God. Jesus was manifested in human form for about 33 years but he, along with God has, always been in existence. BUT, because Jesus is the son of God, he is still the big brother to Humans and Angels, a big strong and omnipotent brother lol. I love that man.

I think the late great John "Andrew" Dye would have been perfect for the role but in a tribute to him they picked someone similar.

The angels are described as being blond and blue eyed people, read the Book of Enoch you will see that Enoch describes that the Sons of Heaven or the Sons of God aka Angels dont look nothing like the Mid-Eastern natives of the Earth who are much more darker than them. Enoch described them as looking exactly like Nordics. The Romans also described the beings of heaven, the *gods* as being blond and blue eyed.
