I am completely against the violence. All of them should be behind bars. I think all Indians should have creative freedom - not just SLB. However, your argument is false. The statement that she is a fictional character can neither be proved nor disproved - therefore comparison with Batman is simply flawed. With your line of argument - all representations of supernatural - all Indian Gods, Abrahamic gods etc - are equivalent to Batman and therefore can be caricatured. I for one would be OK with it. CRis 07 i know the movie is glorifying Rajputs. Sanjay Leela is not foolish enough to insult Rajputs. But he cant show Rani Padmini in a romantic scene and doing ghoomar. A legendary and revered queens romance cant be put in a visual form on a big screen and queens were not dancers to do ghoomar. And thats where the problem is. Karni sena and other rajput royals are absolutely right in objecting. They very well know that the rajputs are not insulted in the movie. Their objection is with the few scenes of the great Queen.

I FULLY agree with him. I wanted to read Salman Rushdie's "Satanic Verses" AFTER it was banned( in India for it hurt Muslim sentiments )and a bounty announced on his head. But, the book was banned in India and one of my friends working at that time in the UK bought it for me and another one, who was visiting the UK brought it back with him. He told me that he had put his "life on the line" and had carefully reversed the dust jacket on the book so it can pass the customs. The copy made a merry round among quite a few of my friends. Another of my friends ( a Sikh by the way!) took the book from me, put it down on his hostel table for everyone to SEE IT and then hung his kirpan on the wooden window frame nearby....no association but the was sending a message if you, the dear reader, can grasp it. I do not know much about Rani Padmavati.... and i am sure there are many people in India who will come to know her and her greatness through this film..... Nobody, in India atleast thinks dance as a negative thing.... So, if in the film Rani Padmavati has been shown dancing, I do not think anyone will say that "Oooo, she is dancing, i don't think she is that great..". So, if the film is stopped, I think a whole lot of people in India will be deprived of her history, her greatness and the legacy of Rajputana....just because a fault in her costume or because she has been shown dancing(the art for which indian culture is famous world wide). When Bajirao was released, there were also some controversies. After i saw that movie, I pictured Bajirao as someone who could truly conquer the whole of Hindustan.... Offcourse, many things were added... but if Sanjay leela Bhansali had not done some modifications, the movie might have been dull and that may have affected our view towards the historical figures.... eating the same noodles with a bit of sauce is always better, even though the sauce is not a part of the dish.... when our books gets old and dusty, we wrap them in colourful wrappers which makes it interesting to read by a lot.... At the last, i would like to say.... we should not be so insecure about our religion.... When an artist paints a potarit of a lady, if the potrait is good, people will appreciate both the talent of artist as well as the beauty of the lady.... if the potrait is bad, people will say that the artist can not draw.. no one will say that the lady is ugly....

Just because something gets written on paper, doesnt prove anything about the existence of a person in the past. Its just that we agree to this on a social level as being a fact. Rani Padmini lived through the folklore and most times folklore stories are built upon real facts. But unforunately Hindus dont have the habit of documenting as well as others. Also the burnings of lakhs of books in Nalanda and other universities by the Mughals destroyed many more such historical evidences.
