When it comes to Jeff Briges,this is a good movie off him and i love the bath sceen,but is strange your dont mentions films such as: Thunderbolt and Lightfoot with Clint Eastwood that Jeff Briges was Oscar nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in 1974 and what about The Fisher King (Terry Gilliam) which is probably his best movie today.And what about The:Star Man :)

I watched this film as a part of a Scripting & Storyboarding class in 1999 in college. Afterwards we discussed the film for the next two hours. I remember that we decided Sam Elliot's character was meant to be God, among other things. When I showed it to my mom a few months later, we decided to see if we could keep up with the Dude. We mixed up a big pitcher of White Russian, rolled some doobs, and settled in with the film on DVD. About halfway through we were giggling uncontrollably as we listened to the Dude fail splendidly to explain what was going on, as we failed to explain why it was so damn funny. We had to give up and declare victory for the Dude shortly afterwards, when the pitcher was empty. Probably just as well, we certainly didn't need any more!

this movie introduced me over a decade to the spanish version of hotel california and Kenny Rogers Just dropped in...and white russian...best day of my life

to me this film represents the unpredictability of life, when you think about it life has no plot structure, things just seem to happen, people come, people go, everything flows man.

Looking back, I'd say this is actually the Cohen Bros best movie. And I lived in LA at the time that this came out. All of the random silly strange things and characters...this is about LA. The landlord, the Dude's lifestyle....you can live like the Dude in CA without ANY real income. I don't think the Dude had any royalties. I'm guessing he lived off of food stamps. And at least at that time, "food stamps" in CA came in the form of cash. You showed that you had an address (by describing where you lived ex. sketching it out on a piece of paper), applied for "food stamps", and were handed 1-200 in cash in the same visit. I was unemployed in Hollywood for a spell, and I drank every day. The money from recycling my bottles at "Ralph's" market (where the Dude bought his) bought me my next day's wine and vodka. They even paid me for the weight of the glass that couldn't be recycled. Welcome to CA.

I saw this film in theaters by myself, and I am glad I did, no one else would go see it with me

Having only just seen this movie .... I had no idea what I was getting myself into. Aspects of the movie I enjoy but come out of my first watch not knowing what I think of it. I didn’t hate it. It kept me watching. It’s a hard one to pin down an opinion on.

Great choice, possibly the last decent film the Coens made, amazing how Steve Buscemi and John Torturro can steal the show with such small parts. You know Donny actually speaks with the Dude 3 times, asking 'They were Nazis dude?"

when i first watched this i didn't hate it i quite enjoyed it but it definitely confused me, after a few watches i learned this film was a masterpiece

Flea was in fear and loathing in Las vegas as well. Those three small acting credits are better than a lot of actors full filmographies

I remember watching this movie for the first time back in '09. I though it was funny the first time, then I tried to watch it again a few months later and I was thinking, "This is dumb." If you enjoy it then good for you, but I'd rather forget it.
