I love them both as they do make great suspension products!!! But I am going for Fox as I do own a lot of the servicing tools and I don't want to invest in more tools for a Rock Shox fork...

Of the two I'd have to say Rockshox even though I've owned both. They both make an excellent product but I think the fundamental difference is, Fox expect owners to just send their fork/shock to a suspension specialist for any work which presents as a bit snobbish and elitist. Rockshox on the other hand have all manuals and parts lists available on the SRAM website, and the way they're written it's like they genuinely want to help you maintain and enjoy their products. I bought a 2020 Reba fork and Monarch shock for my 2008 Stumpjumper and I've been able to fully service both of these myself; the tools/parts were no more expensive than a TF Tuned/Mojo service. Conversely the Fox 32s which I got with the Stumpjumper, no-one selling Fox parts in the UK could even supply me the correct dust seals! Luckily I had some Rockshox seals for some 2007 Rebas I have (which again, all the parts/manuals are still available for) and they fitted perfectly. Now I've fully serviced them (got the rest of the parts from Italy) the Fox 32s are great and I've fitted them to my hardtail but the whole experience puts me off buying a newer bike; certain sectors of the industry need to understand their customers a little more. I like my stuff to be owner serviceable 😀

I wonder though, since Fox has been around for way longer and have been in way more motor sports developing competition shocks if Rockshox just picked up reverse engineering late in the game? Granted it still creates competition.

I wish we could see shock dyno comparisons. Human senses are easily fooled, so I pay no attention to riders who claim one rides better then the other. Instruments can be designed to measure fork characteristics, then experienced riders can describe what the measured differences feel like to them. But his will never happen. It seems to be about 98% fanboy or hater, no engineering.

I have both, but prefer Fox. The quality of everything is so high that quality isn’t a differentiating factor. So what does differ is looks - the Fox looks more cool. As well I find the Fox easier, for some reason, to tune/behave the way I want. Though the RS Flight Attendant could a huge differentiator if it can take care of all the tuning for me.

Fox I think seem to have more of a small brand feel, even though they are not. I think a lot of people like fox and dislike RS purely because RS is a 'big global brand', which lots hate solely for that reason (take note Muc-off, yet wider/more diluted still product range!). People often like to make a less common choice as it feels 'more informed/aware.', whether it is or not.

The coating on the dip tubes has still no wear sings. The black coating on many new forks dosen't seem to have a long durability. Regarding the oval seatpost. I used to think the same, that an oval profile to the seat post to remove the need for keys and to ensure that the saddle is oriented correctly, seems logical. That was untill I came off the other week and my saddle had twisted about 45degrees off centre. I feared the worst but twisted it back into position and it clicked back into place, working fine. If any element of the seatpost was oval or square it would have been a write off.

I have a set on my old Foes Weasel Museum piece (with Fox Vanilla Rx on the back) and 20 years later they are still the most comfortable things to hit a gutter on (of course gazzaloddi 3.0 tyres help the spongy feel. Both are great, but is one that will not forget, my old BOS DeVille 26 that fork was amazing, fox a RockShox have a lot adjustment and it's good but never got the same feeling I had with the BOS fork, air rebound and done. I wonder if or when Rockshox will bring back Dual Air, I am on Ext Era with two independently adjustable air chambers, love it. No unessesary work when setting up the support and sensitivity. It has all of the adjustment of Grip2 damper, but has two chambers so easy and fast 5o get the fork setup decently. No need to remove air and install and remove spacers. Just adjust the chambers until you find the sweets pot. Also love that the cap has a hex slot so no more stuck cap. IV eonly tried budget Rockshox forks and a Fox 36 with Smashpoy, but I think I had a too girmnsprinh cus it felt so, but the fork got super creaky and loud, it sounded like it snapped in half when I did drops, was ptrownef fork, but was 2019 model so previous owner only had it a few months then me for a few, it was horrible, I installed the Era when it arrived, I could not take it anymore. Ha dit since 2019, in Nov or Oct I think. I did not even bother testing the air setup. Or go down in spring rate. It was so noisy I did not want to deal with "creak" 36 So far ERA has been flawless. I've had it since 06.2021, so dar no creaking. I ride a large Geometron G1 62.5 deg HA, about 18.14 kg bike, plus light that's a bit over 1kh ekstra, I am 181cm, more or less 86ish but that was before the scale broke and I got new kit. So might be less now, as I wear lighter and better pads, and don't wear shin pads anymore. But do use a torso protector and neck brace. So noy sure if I am heavier or lighter. But one thing I know for sure my bike is great so is the suspension. Maybe I can dial it in even more. I will see. But I've not tried the other brands. Only tried Rockshox budget XC forks. I don't count restriding friend's bikes at the pumptrack 😜

Performance wise I know both good, but from those in bike shops I've heard more negative around reliability about rockshox than I've heard about Fox. Currently have marzocchi and thinking next bike will be fox just because I'm hesitant to get something many shops have told me aren't reliable. And this was both shops and co workers that used to work in bike shops. And shops I wasn't in the market or buying from just service from. So they weren't going to be getting money from me buying a bike with Fox.

Lugano is in Switzerland, not in Italy. It's also ”Minnaar”, with two N. As far as suspension goes, I have always been a RockShox guy, because they are efficient and easy to service by most people. This is very important for me. I have been one of the first For Forx owners in my country, took excellent care of them and the coating still went south. In my experience with Fox, they lacked midstroke support for years. It is as if they were tailor-made for those people who don't ride that hard and have the time to think about how their suspension is buttery smooth all over the place. And those people were for a good while those who would spend the extra buck on Fox, just to be able to say they have Fox on the bike. We also know that Kashima doesn't do anything, right? I haven't ridden the new RockShox forks, with ButterCups and bleeding valves, but my friends who did rave about them. I have been impressed by the Zeb before that. And I know somebody who owns an expensive aftermarket shock and says the new RS rear shocks are so good that he can hardly tell the difference. I have Öhlins on my latest bike, a Mondraker Foxy RR Carbon and my take is this: I set up the suspension ONCE in the shop an it works flawlessly since the, no arm pump, not even on the hardest long descent. That is very telling for me. But also: my 36 RXF developed play after just five rides and I got some bullshit response from Öhlins, who basically say that I need to take the fork to an authorized Öhlins mechanic and let him fill some oil in both legs and let the fork upside down over night. They are basically giving a mechanical issue a hydraulic solution. My friends who work with Öhlins say they are undermanned and that the Tenneco takeover did them no good. Suspension works amazing, though. Oh, and they were slow to answer at first, but then rushed to get back to me, as soon as I said I am looking for a Zeb for replacement. ;)

In the past I haven't liked Fox. Some of that was because I didn't like that they were "the" brand for off-road. I also didn't like that they always sounded like they were very dry when compressing, which they've seemed to fix since then. I liked my RockShox on my previous bike, but the downside was that I had to have my rear shock warrantied twice, but the Pike fork was bulletproof. Unfortunately, that bike was stolen which gave me the opportunity to go to the dark side. Currently getting used to, and enjoying, Shimano and Fox components. Each have their advantages or parts I prefer.

Should be said though, that between the two ...Rockshox and Fox ... your Fox enthusiast is more likely to have come by their brand loyalty based on esthetics and self image. At least where Factory is concerned. We're I to consider the purchase of a Fox fork ...and I may, the Performance Elite would be where I put my dollars. Image to me holds little sway. My tongue is firmly planted in my cheek.

In the same way you say people only buy fox for the image I could say it’s also “cool” for people to hate on fox because it is generally regarded as the best… between a 38 and a zeb I personally don’t think there’s any real discernible difference if both setup by the same rider on the same bike. Sram/shimano, fox/rs, 27.5/29, carbon/alu etc, people just love to pick a side and argue it and 8/10 will either have no idea what they are talking about or have never even tried the parts in question.

@@marsbar7099 The ribbon was a air fork. I’ve ridden a couple manitou forks that were cool though and they’re quite nice.

Feel a bit sorry for HXR they have been doing the crank freewheel idea for a long time, and even they weren't the first.

RockShox for the masses. Fox are pricey and are more for the enthusiasts.

Fox is my clear favourite... though Marzocchi was really good. It might be again but it is essentially Fox.

Tried Fox, RockShox, and IRD, back in the day. Had two AMP's , one Kilo, and Motion E-18 linkage....Linkage for me....Hate tele-pogo sticks...

For me and my riding style I discovered that I have on all my bikes now and that is a Rockshox fork and Fox rear shock. And ya to some I'm breaking some unwritten rule, but out on the trail and they start dropping off behind me is all I have to say.

My first full suspension was fitted with suntour both ends they was the first air suspension I used but my upgrade bike a year later had rockshox and the feel was soooo much better than suntour I've used x fusion and fox but find rockshox easier to set up and feel amazing

Williams Racing Centre Hub is not like the Ochain, the Centre Hub allows you to shift whilst coasting whilst the Ochain adds a few degrees of float to the crankset to help alleviate pedal kickback and help the bike stay active under braking. A better answer would be Intends Rocksteady Magic Cranks! Just saying 😋
