Ive been mowing and strumming the grass on the allotment but today I make a different use of the clippings. In my attempts to deal with weeds around the Raspberries I have taken on board suggestions made by my amazing subscribers so watch this episode of Allotments For Fun and Food and see how I get along.The Tomato plants are growing well in the tunnel with all of my Latah variety showing trusses of flowers. The Roma tomatoes are yet to flower but I am not far off needing to start a feeding regime for all the Toms. The plants growing bench is looking wel with all my seedlings doing well. Its time to pot on my favourite cherry tomatoes “House” whilst they will always remain dwarf bushes it does help them to be potted on a few times to encourage growth and overall size. My first strawberries are close to picking and the carrots have germinated in all the stations so wont be long before I clip away the weaker seedlings. Its time to weed a couple of beds that I have left for some time and get my Celeriac planted , I explain how I go about this. A long term experiment comes to a close when I reveal if White Rot can be suppressed in onions.
UK Allotments are the ideal place to learn how to grow fruit and vegetables. My allotment is a no dig allotment and I share how to grow vegetables and how to prepare a no dig garden. If you are growing in a backyard garden or homestead and you want some tips on how to grow vegetables I hope my channel has something to offer. Allotment ideas are always worth sharing and I am happy to share my gardening ideas and failures so that we can all learn to grow vegetables together. I also learn on the allotment nearly every time I am there and learning how to grow in a Polytunnel or greenhouse can be a fun an exciting experience too. If you are one of the many allotment beginners or thousands of people growing in your garden for the first time then join me growing on Allotments For Fun and food and get some allotment ideas.

Cream of celery soup is my favourite soup. I am going to try cream of celeriac soup with mine. :)

As an added extra to in-hanse your celeriac soup, make a lime oil to drizzle over the top as you serve. I you would like to have a go, get 3 limes an olive oil, cut the limes in to three across the widest part, get a frying pan really hot no oil yet, place the limes in the pan and leave to caramelise and turn over and do the same on the other side. Then add olive oil and do not let the oil get to hot, then remove from the heat, let it infuse from two hours then, squeeze the limes and compost the skins, the season the oil with some salt and pepper, store in the fridge in a clean bottle. Hope you enjoy.

Nice one. Don't forget that white rot sclerotia can lie dormant in the soil for 10 years or more and they are not always "activated" by the presence of the allium's volatile chemicals. So, they can affect a crop even after a clear year. I did something very similar to yourself in that I just scattered old bits of onion/garlic etc on the surface but I also watered the crop (brassicas one year beans the next) for 2 years with a garlic wash. Just a clove of garlic squidged up in a watering can and watered onto the bed. No white rot for 2 years since doing this but I am not being complacent as the white rot can come back at any time.

Hi Malcolm, I'm sure you've been asked a thousand times but i have to ask again 🤣 what are those fantastic bed hoops you have and where can I find them? The rounded 3ft ish high ones. Like the ones you're sitting next to with the IBC.
@MalcolmKingswell
@MalcolmKingswell 2 года назад
Hi , the hoops come from First Tunnels I think they are called small tunnel hoops or similar…..hope that helps…..Malc
