It shows me the honesty and clarity in the truth of what you say and how you perceive yourself is your reality. How other people perceive you as our reality? And the honesty and clarity is wonderful from you.Thank you for being you

I love your enthusiasm for your collection and all of your finds. As for the face or no face question: it’s however you feel! And there’s nothing that says you have to be consistent about it across episodes. If you feel it one day and not the next that’s cool too. Please look at this channel like you look at your collection. It’s for sharing and enjoying the hobby! Just please keep making more videos.

I generally find just your voice and the view of stamps more appealing, but it’s perfectly fine to introduce the videos in person! It’s always nice to see the person behind the channel!

Usually the voice behind the video doesn't match with the face. So it's always nice to at least know we are looking/hearing at.

Hi Silk! Great video. For me each of the formats of your format of presentation has its own charm. I don't prefer your talking head introduction, or your image of your stockbooks introduction. I think you must do what you enjoy the most and what you are most comfortable with. Today's episode was a good overview of the content of your gift box, and still some stamps to see and enjoy. I cannot comment about the USA stamps, because I have not seen many in my short time of collecting stamps, and many of the stamps you show are new to me, and it is enjoyable and interesting to get an idea of the USA stamps. Thanks!

I liked old post cards or envelopes with really old letters enclosed that I could read very interesting seeing what people wanted write to each other.

Congrats on such a nice addition to your collection. It's funny - I got a couple boxes of damaged/poor condition first day covers in an inexpensive box lot and have been soaking them since the covers are not collectable - exactly this same era of stamps. I collect used so its nice to get stamps without killer obliterated cancels lol

The commemorative stamp club binders are so nice. I like the layout. I would find it hard to take stamps out there, but I can understand the thrill of putting those stamps you miss in the davo albums. All in all a superb box of material you received Silk, really nice! Ow, and I forgot: your on camera presence is good, I like it. I can understand you not being comfortable with it. I think the balance in this video is good.

Nothing wrong with your personal appearance on camera, keep it up ! 👍And you are absolutely right, it´s not just the financial aspect that counts, but also having fun with this amazing hobby. Nice to see the "official" USPS binders, I´ve never seen those before. Keep it up, and have a fantastic 3rd Advent. 🎄 Greets from GER, U.

Yea, I don't remember a lot of those USA stamps either. As for first day covers, the only ones I ever bought are from the 50 year anniversary of the Woodstock festival. Another of my obsessions. Speaking of, I love reading and watching sci-fi.

Thanks for your great enthusiasm about stamps you LIKE..... with no worries about their value. IMO, in part, that is a big part of what stamp collecting is all about ! Keep it up ! As for showing your face, well viewers who don't wanna see you can just scroll down to the comments and listen to ya..... I noticed one of your "new" FDC's was the US Sc958 Swedish Pioneers Centennial.... first day postmarked in Chicago.... really? Chicago I could see for Poles, Lithuanians, maybe Germans and Irish..... but I never heard of many "Swedes" around Chicago..... maybe someplace in Wisconsin, Iowa, Nebraska or Minnesota mighta been more appropriate for that issue.....??

A lot of us don’t like how we look in photographs, and I am sure that the same thing holds true for videos. We perceive things about our appearance that others do not see. You have nothing to be ashamed of about how you appear. Your wife likely saw this as a way to connect with the people who watch your videos, and she probably has a point. Perhaps, the more you present yourself in your videos in this manner, the more comfortable you will become. However you do your videos, a lot of people enjoy watching them, myself included. As far as the Commemorative Stamp Club albums are concerned, I would,personally, keep them intact. Not only are they very attractive with detailed explanations about each stamp, but someone paid a lot of money for them. Usually, stamps that are presented in this manner are purchased on a subscription basis, with the original purchaser paying at least $4 a page; and often times more. It is a very expensive way to buy stamps. Most US stamps from the 1980’s and 1990’s are not hard to find and can often be obtained for less than face value in a collection.

I quite like your way of opening your videos with your stockbooks in view, and the two small characters as well, with you talking behind the camera. Perhaps just show your face for a few seconds after the intro so that new subscribers can put a face to the voice. But, at the end of the day, however you choose to do it is fine by me. Keep up the good work 🙂

I always liked the format you had before. Your Wife has a point that it generally helps people connect more with who they're listening to, but for our purposes, I liked the way you had it before. You do a good job on camera, but if you are more comfortable the other way, you should go back to that. Whatever helps YOU feel more comfortable to keep making the great content. Thanks for asking for our input! More proof that you're the best!

I was an engineering student in 1989 and read a lot of hard science fiction. Truly, I am not super surprised by most of the advances we are seeing today. Cell phones (or tiny mobile super computers) was actually predicted by several authors and being in engineering school made it quite foreseeable.

Each collector to his own but I could never deplete the stamps from the US books. They are unique unto themselves.

unfortunately the postal commemorative albums cost more than they were ever worth and has never gained any popularity. they generally sell for far less than they cost.

The rising cost of postage surely hinders many kids potential interest in stamp collecting look how much in face value it takes to just keep current each year.
@silkontheweb
@silkontheweb 8 месяцев назад
True... though I think stamp collecting is like a lot of hobbies, it'll be kept going by 'younger' collectors like me who have disposable income, not necessarily by kids.
@bobkeane7966
@bobkeane7966 8 месяцев назад
When I was a kid I had more disposable than I do now, but when I was a kid kids could make money in so many ways. Today we rob our children of the opportunities to earn and learn about money. When talking with dealers and older collectors it was paper routes and snow shoveling and other money sources that fueled that collecting bug.@@silkontheweb

First Day covers to me are not collectible. It always seemed to me they had no organic value and were a conjured gimmick. I think if they had been a thing in the earliest days of the hobby they would have more collector appeal, but nah, to me they are a waste of time, space and money. You can never get money for them and although I agree that what brings you joy is most important, but what brings me joy in a collection is to be smart, learn what has value, and collect quality versus quantity. :-)

I totally agree... and... I do like cachets though that commerate historic events especially, but even those I find it hard to collect because I just don't have the space
