It's nice to see the face behind the voice because I really enjoy your videos. I look forward to each and every one. I also like your hobby corner you've created. I wish I had as much room and an impressive collection as yours. I'm working towards that as I enjoy the hobby. It's also a great escape.

A new stamp nook, face on video, and a wonderful stamp and coin gift! A good end for the year! I enjoyed your face on camera. You did it very naturally. You can definitely, at least now and then, "show your face". 🙂 I am slowly starting to get a little bit of an idea of USA stamps. It is nice to get to know the stamps of a country, even though one doesn't collects them actively. I am also glad you found some stamps for your quest. All in all - glad to see such happy things happening. 🙂

Great decision of Mrs. Silk to place you in front of the camera, kind regards to her. And please don´t call your dad "horse face", he got the typical Dutch/ Frisian/ Germanic "long skull" appearance which is pretty neat. The stamp/ coin collection (presidential series) was produced by a private company and, to explain it carefully, not worth a fortune, but nice to look at. 😉 Same with the so called "state quarters". Yup, FDR was a big stamp collector, and a lot of U.S. special issues like souvenir sheets and imperfs from the early 1930s were issued to please him. Greets from GER, U.

Interesting to hear about your TV experience. Thank you for sharing this story. Franklin D. Roosevelt did collect stamps. Monaco C16, issued in 1947, shows FDR working on his stamp collection. This stamp is easily obtainable and not expensive. Stamp and coin collecting really are closely related. In 1991, the US issued a stamp publicizing coin collecting, Scott 2558. 1915-1917, Russia issued some cardboard stamps that were intended for use as paper money. Because they look like stamps, and some were used for postage, they are listed in Scott. Latvia 63 was printed on the backs of unfinished bank notes due to a paper shortage . I have one complete bank note, with 3 complete stamps, which was cut out of a sheet and sent home by a soldier. A note which accompanies this bank note explains that this was a piece of Bolshevick money that was left behind when the Bolshevik’s left Riga, Capitol of Latvia. I collected coins out of circulation , along with stamps, when I was young. I still have the coins that I had collected, but since I could not do both well, I went more into stamps and did not do much with the coins. I started collecting coins when silver coins were in circulation, so I do have a good bit of silver. I managed to get a complete collection of Franklin half dollars before they went out of circulation. The best coin which I have is a 1909 $5.00 gold piece which escaped the 1933 recall, as it was missed when my grandparents turned in their gold.

Oh, such wonderful stamps and coins! I would love to hear more about the coins if you decide to explore them. The more I look through your albums, the more US stamps become familiar to me, and I'm starting to recognise them now as you flip the pages. P.S. I had a dream... you were lying on the floor dressed as a clown with Mrs Silk throwing tomatoes at you saying "are you sure you wanna collect coins?!" :)

Step away from the coins now! I speak as one who has gone down the stamp road for many years, and has recently transgressed into the postcard world. I have avoided the coin world due to a lack of space, time, knowledge and money. The screen appearance worked well, but it is the off screen disembodied shouts and chuckles of enthusiasm and joy on finding a stamp you like makes the channel. Keep up the good work...bring on the clown.

I started collecting coins and banknotes, but then my interest turned more to stamps. Those look like the presidential series $1 coins issued by the U.S. Mint, and the publisher of that binder made commemorative pages for them... And I love the 50 states and America the Beautiful quarter series. I'm trying to collect the entire sets of those from pocket change and coin rolls.

Very cool! A stamp nook! And yes, FDR was a stamp collector. According to the United States Mint, the US Mint issued $1 coins, beginning in 2007 with Washington. (Sorry, it's a librarian thing!) And yeah, I love exploring box collections.....

Funny that you and I are in the same boat. My US album goes up through the 70's and I have recently decided to do the 80's and 90's. I have started buying 80's stamps and am putting them in Vario pagers but now I need to find 80's pages.

I'm partial to stamps because there's so much history (and color) depicted on them as opposed to coins that don't change a lot except for the year and only show a few presidents.

Yeah as one commentator says watch out collecting coins and stamps ---- it gets expensive!!! So that is why I avoid mostly older stamps and my spending on 99% are well under $25 for a stamp. Coins are another matter --- I have spent quite a bit more. The binder contains examples of Uncirculated Presidential Dollars of which only those made after 2014 are Not Intended For Circulation. They do not have that much a premium over face although it is growing since more and more you find in circulation are now in circulated condition. The packet as has been written was probably expensive initially but its value has dropped much. If you lack space for this keep the coins in a good non-PVC capsule or get a Dansco album to store it. Otherwise if you have room keep it as is. As for the State Quarters really again in Uncirculated condition they do have a modest premium but again there are still many out there found in the Annual Uncirculated Sets issued every year (at that time sales of them were around 1 million). Plus the uncirculated State Quarters were often hoarded so you can sometimes find a low grade unc in change still (although less often than years ago). If you like the State Quarters nd Presidential dollars may be best just to get on the secondary set Uncirculated sets. Or if you like silver the silver proof sets from 1999 - 2009. More expensive but the premium increase with the price of silver.

So helpful... thanks for sharing... I don't have the space really, so I won't hurt its value too much if I remove the coins?

Those coin albums tend to be ok only if bought on the secondary market otherwise your paying an exhorbitant mark up for packaging

I collect stamps and coins, it gets expensive. Do not do it! haha. IMO Coins will hold their value better than stamps, lots of younger stackers who could move over to numismatic coins. I don't see many if any younger stamp collectors but anything can happen. Who knows? FDR was a stamp collector, some of his stuff goes up for auction occasionally.

That's one of the pieces that's kept me out of it, honestly... I collect stamps because I love them, not for $$ reasons... with coins I know it's a more profitable pursuit but that's not why I collect things

Question.....have you developed a relationship with a reputable stamp dealer? They are still around. You can also go to a stamp show and "interview" some and then develop a relationship that you may find fruitful. A good dealer will help you develop your collection along your lines of interest. This would be more efficient and just as fun, because you will not have to worry as much about whether your finds are good quality, etc. Also, once you are ready to venture into the more advanced aspects of philately, you will most certainly need someone from whom you can learn.

No worries... my hope with my channel is to inspire folks to get into the hobby, so I focus a lot of my videos on some of the basics (as well as my genuine excitement over finding stamps that I know aren't all that valuable or rare, but honestly, I just like stamps... even fillers...) I've been thinking about doing some videos on more 'advanced' or 'niche' topics... I'm particularly fascinated by steamboat cancels, for example... or POW covers... so many stories to tell!@@patiencezero-xc9zl
