They did an amazing job with the engine. The only thing that the Raider and Roadliner/Stratoliner needed to be great was a 6 gallon gas tank and a nice 6 speed transmission.
I love mine most people have upgraded to to 240 tire fills in the rear a lot best the biggest issue I'm having is keeping myself from spinning the tire and fish tailing on takeoff it's addictive
Yamaha Raider is a beast of a bike. I have one of the first ones made. Bought it in December of '07. I have just over 101k miles on it and very few problems. Had to replace the fuel pump housing about 5 or 6 years ago. Other than that, no real problems other than wear and tear (fork seals, etc.)
I have an 09 Raider that stacks up well against other air cooled big twins. Unfortunately it doesn't hold a candle to any of my M109R's. Cool bike, but it's still second string to the M109R. Love them both for different reasons.
My 2009 Raider bought new in 2012 has averaged 42.4mpg over 33,641 miles as of last week. For a period of time when I could get non-ethanol premium, I was in the 44-45 mpg range. It's an awesome bike.
I think it wold be awesome to see your review on the Yamaha Bolt,it looks like a sweet ride. it has 942 cc (57.5 cu in) 4-stroke air-cooled V-twin and it looks beautiful
Remember back when they used an 80ci(actually 1340cc) to power VW Beetle, and better than the car engine it came with.........imagine this engine powering a Bug I've considered putting floorboard on my Dyna Yamaha not only uses the same engine, but in the Stryker and the others that use the Stryker 1300cc engine the used the same piston.... they're just a shorter stroke
My first bike was a Yamaha virago 750. My last bike Yamaha virago 1100. I haven’t been on a bike in far too long. I’ve been looking at getting something again and getting back in the saddle. It’s interesting how the bike that caught my attention out of everything I could get is the Yamaha raider. Of course I get this, it’s gonna have to be completely customized and rebuilt from the ground up. Might as well get what I want.
i was a long time hd fan and had several diff hd models, till i sold the last one to get a raider,i think the rocker box covers more closely resemble the hd covers, but overall the price of these bikes for what u get for the money makes hd's seem so ridiculous and just buying a name, and thats cool and all, also the power raiders put out is what ppl pay to put stage 2 or 3 in hd stock engines, those upgrades costing what a good used one of these can be bought for, dollar for dollar, raiders make hd's so overpriced
I have an 08 Raider it’s a great bike my daily rider! Yes, My car is a 1.2 L Chevy Spark now my bike engine is quite larger than my car engine. These Raiders are really reliable. They crank slow because the starter is geared low so the battery can turn over this beast. Yes, they are fast you get into top gear fast and the ride is firm. I have had numerous bikes this is my favorite!
I couldn’t afford a raider,, so I got a camo green bullet cowl Stryker and I love it !!! My first ever bike I bought new. Can’t wait to see you review one..
I could be wrong but I believe it cranks slow because it has a MMM relay like the suzuki marauder vz800. It's very common on the marauders to intentionally short the wires on that relay to make it crank normally because that relay doesn't really do anything
I've been dreaming of riding again for so long and that would be a dream bike to me. I have an old Harley from the 70s that I've never ridden before. It's in pieces. A guy was trying to rebuild it for me as a tribute bike cause I lost my son and the guy died in an accident before he could finish it. I don't know how to fix bikes but I'll never sell it cause it means so much. You guys are really lucky and I enjoy the videos. Keep it up
I know that this is an older video. You've moved, so much has transpired since you posted this video!!! I've spent most of my life playing around on two wheels...but in 2009....I found out I was going to be a Dad!!! Think of me what you will...but, I had a 1989 Yamaha FZ700 Genesis bike!!! Delta box frame, just a fun bike....but now there was a little one coming! I argued, stood the ground, and did what all other real men do.....I caved and sold the bike!!!! My son is about to be 14 years old now. His mom decided someone else was more important to her than me, so we've been apart since 2015. Long story short... watching a number of videos on RU-vid, and seeing your reviews....I got really interested in the Raider!!! Been a Yamaha fan forever and a day....so....the Raider, with that Ginormiss V-Twin, just reached out and grabbed me!! Been riding mine for over a year now..... totally Love it.....but now here's the kicker!!!! Sean.....I saw a video from you about the Stratoliner deluxe!!!! I said... that's my Raider with a ferring and bags!!! Suddenly I can see Two bikes in the garage!!! Lol...so...this mini book is only to say Thank You, May our Lord and God Bless you and your family until times indefinite!!! And as you say.... it's not what you ride...... it's how you get there!!! You, my Brother, helped me get there!!! Thanks again...and I apologize for the book! Lol😊
Nice bike I love big engines on a bike makes them last a really long time and they can really get you around quickly without even straining like say a ninja 300 would have to do to keep the same pace! All that equals a bike that will be far more reliable and last forever!
The pegs are ok but the first thing I did was throw a pair of Kuryakyn Swing Wing foot pegs on them great for multiple riding positions for your legs/feet.
@@JeffBowe yep totally agree. 3 best convivence mods for the Raider, 1) quick disconnect saddlebags, 2) mechanical cruise control, 3) Swing Wing foot pegs all make long trips MUCH more comfortable.
I've got to hand it to u,u r a great salesman, every bike u ride I want that bike,,,,lol, the only item I will change on that bike are the pipes, too long and gaudy for my taste, shorties would look great on the bike
I think if you went to a race school the times would be more realistic but LOVE your vids and thatz from a chopper rider and remember ANY BIKE IS BETTER THAN NO BIKE
This is the second video I've watched about this bike, and the only thing I don't like about its looks, are the pipes--I would like to see it with straight pipes.
Thanks for the video and words of wisdom. I like it, but not the angular mirrors. If everything else on the bike is rounded or sweeping curves the mirrors should be too. So a friend of mine has a Shelby GT Mustang and always wanted to race my modest 750. I said you would win. But I could beat him with this right? I want three things on my next upgrade. I like Harley's but don't want an ocean liner type bike. 1.) I want a basic cruiser with lots of power. 2.) I want pegs that don't drag if I take a corner with hard bank. 3.) I want gear indicators on the gauge. Does this have that?
The Triumph water cooled 1200cc Twin in the new Thruxton and Speed Twin puts out similar torque and a little bit less bhp, plus does more MPG! (they both appropriately weigh 440 lbs or 200 Kg) Mind you, this is still an awesome bike. But at 700 lbs I would not be able to push it up the ramp at my house !
I remember wanting one of those when they first came out...now my new Heritage has a 114, but it took H-D a while to offer that. Anyway, thanks for the video, buddy!
" because I know, I'm aware, I was there" dude, you crack me up. Sweet bike, i feel like even though it was out of the muscle 00's era it's look is timeless and handsome, plus it pushes and shoves so yeah, ok then.
I really don't understand why is it 1.8l size engine that gives 80 horses? is it because of the physics of the piston size and weight?? As it's being V-Twin, could be the weight ratio taxing off the output???
Probably because it's a high compression motor, and Yamaha didn't wanna fork out to mass produce a more powerful Starter. So they threw on whatever they had laying around and it did the trick.
Well, yeah, it's kinda like the big Ducati twins - except it fired on the second crank. A Ducati would probably get in at least another four cranks before it started up.
@@wolfdog7265 according to many people on the raider forum they say the 240mm is great for handling and the 250mm is good but not as good as the 240mm on the Raider. And this is from people that have those tires on that bike and put thousands of miles on them and have put several tires on their Raider so i'll take their word for it but thanks for the info.
Srk cycles if I'm ever in your part of town your going to have to test drive mine its 2011 full bolt ons flashed 240 back tire bullet fearing fastest bike ive ever been on had to let off at at 140mph
I don't understand how 1900 CC's can equal 85 horsepower. Can someone lmk? Is it all the torque or just how the engine is made? Cuz my 650 does around 70 and its a Yamaha as well. Awesome video btw Sean👍
those bags are aftermarket since they don't come stock on any model year or model of the Raider. They came in Raider base model, Raider S which is the chrome version, the SCL which was the 500 made and numbered Special Customs Line version, and the Raider Bullet with the headlight bullet windshield stock. I have a 2012 Raider S in Raven, (black glossy metallic) LOVE IT! Added quick disconnect bags and will add a quick disconnect windshield for long trips. I have a HUGE list of stuff i'm going to do to her. One part at a time as money allows.
Raider owners, I’m looking at getting a bike that I can commute with, take on trips through the mountains, joyride, and be comfortable doing all of them. Would you honestly recommend a Raider for my needs?
I have an 08' and installing a big air kit a power commander and v&h 2-1 pipes seriously wakes this monster up so much so that the factory 210 rear tire got upgraded to an avon 240 and i havent found a bike i would rather ride!!
its funy i see so many of these bikes here in iowa n missouri that couldnt sell new n now your luck if ya can find them used for cheap when they couldnt give them away new
I hear ya. A motor usually has windings. It's electric. They call several things motors. I know at the bottom of a oil field drill string there's a device that's called a mud motor.
@@herbwag6456 thanks for waking me up. I've been hung up on what an Electrician friend said to me once but since you said it that way I could almost pinch myself. Moto, motivate, motivation. Simply to move. Thanks!
Yeah, the weight puts me off. Bikes have to be pushed around, sometimes up slight inclines (hills). I am in to the Colin Chapman philosophy of things should be as light as possible (but he took it a bit too far and ended up with unreliability)
Drakoulas David weight , power , torque helps for touring and benefit on a windy day , if you ride often a big bike 🏍 no need to go to a gym , controlling the machine keeps u alert and fit 👍🏼
I have a BMW bike that is an 800cc motor that puts out 86 horsepower. So woppy-dee! My Yamaha Midnight Star has been bored and stroked to 1900cc and puts out 140 hp.
