Really nice product. Most offset Bridges always tend to have at least one downside but it seems like you have covered them all, amazing
@TuffsetBridge
@TuffsetBridge 4 месяца назад
@@jorgeya2036 thank you so much! The intellectual property / parenting process took a long time, so I dedicated myself to optimising all aspects of the design (including a big focus on user experience) while that was going through. It's really over-baked - but I literally listed out every single dimension and aspect of an Offset bridge and promised myself that, whatever unique improvements the bridge has as a USP, that every single aspect of it would be best in class. So for instance, I went through about 4 or 5 versions getting the profile of the bridge (minimum saddle height relative to bridge base) a bit lower than an original bridge, so it wouldn't force some owners to shim their neck pocket to make it work. It also means if your bridge is currently scraping along the pickguard and can't be lowered any more, the Tuffset should give you just that little bit of extra room to manoeuvre and prevent scraping. In this way and many others, we've optimised the design a lot, and with some smart design packaging, it hasn't ballooned out of proportion like some of the other "engineered" locking bridges out there! I always wanted the graphics to look in place on an Offset guitar, and not to distract the eye but to fit in and perform!

It's just £2k+ for a guitar that's copying something else that you can buy for £500-800. The ones they smash up first are really taking the piss too - even the drummer feels intelligent next to the idiots who buy these. My thought after the 3rd or 4th stall with another dull set of telecaster or SG copies was just how the guitar industry has stagnated with no ideas. I can't see why anyone would pay boutique brand prices for complete non entities - less of a brand and resale than Cort but they want the money for a Suhr or custom shop big brand. As for the ticket price - they wanted £15 to go and guitar shop in Birmingham. It's just silly to pay that. A show should be about showing what's new not a bunch of retail stores trying to flog strings and straps. When I look at the people walking in the background or the sales people in each booth the striking thing is - it's tired boomers looking at boomer guitar shapes presented by boomer staff. I've never felt less like spending money on a new guitar than ever before after watching this - and it's not KDH's fault - he showed (perhaps inadvertently, he doesn't appear to have noticed it) that the guitar industry is literally dying. Everything is old, the people and the guitars. Perhaps the only interesting thing were the number putting aluminium plates on - albeit I've never really thought it was a weak point. I think Vai's magnetic back cover is a selling point. SS jumbo frets, locking tuners, roasted maple necks but I've never sat fretting that the pick guard isn't aluminium and it doesn't seem likely to make any difference to the sound, playability or looks - but at least they'd done something. Perhaps it's fair to say that if they tried to do something most of the boomers that seem to be buying guitars probably wouldn't be interested. But, you know, there's no point being a small, inconsequential brand if you just create telecaster, sg and les paul copies is there? With no benefit - not cheaper and not regarded at all as a brand. Hilditch guitars was funny asked to talk about the guitars he looked taken aback as though he never expected to be asked that question and started umming and erring like you're taking your products to a show spend 5 minutes practising talking about each of them in a mirror mate - and it's another bunch of Gibson and Fender copies zzzzzzz £2k+ for a guitar made in a shed by a guy who barely has the power of speech.

Wow...looks like the UK guitar makers are killing it. We've come a long way from the UK having Hofner's and Futurama's, then importing Fenders, Gibson's, and Gretch. There are definitely some proper, top-notch, premium instruments made right in the UK. I'd love to have some of those guitars. I don't see many UK brands here in the U.S.

@MS-Patriot2

It’s been an interesting journey. I played an early Eggle in the late eighties in a scroty little shop in Plymouth. It was in a league of its own - outstanding! A few years later I got a Berlin Pro with tremolo. It looked beautiful but had big problems with dead notes, tuning stability and poor intonation. Working with the shop we arranged a visit to the factory, met Patrick who was really concerned regarding the quality control that had allowed this instrument to leave his build line. He agreed to build me a hard tail Berlin with a stunning finish to my requirements. That was a great guitar. Apparently the back story was he’d expanded too quickly and had employed a bunch of laid off craftsmen from nearby Jaguar cars who could work wood but were not luthiers. The original one man band had been taken over by the accountants. I think he downsized in an attempt to regain the signature quality he was known for. His heart is definitely in it.

@@MS-Patriot2 Yeah I'm pretty sure I played a cheap acoustic somewhere along the line but I think that was from his previous company that did the whole Asia imports thing, he left that company and started again at some point building the guitars that he does now! Wow!! Just …wow. We yanks need to up our game. As an amateur tech hobbyist, these guitars inspire me to press on and keep learning and practicing the craft. Thanks KDH for this video. Love the channel and honesty.
@michael1
@michael1 4 месяца назад
Why? It was just a lot of boomers making Gibson and Fender copies. You yanks actually have Gibson and Fender for starters (Although Gibson couldn't make a guitar and the design is shit as one guy pointed out as he tried to convince the audience the headstock on his cheap copy wouldn't snap off - why copy it if it's shit in the first place? No one plays les paul anyway - jimmy page is famous now for planning application arguments not music) and a bunch of people who copy them that are renowned (for no good reason really but PRS is a thing - I can't even remember the names of these British guitar makers and it's been 30 seconds since I watched the video) I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. If I was going to spend £2k-3k on a guitar it wouldn't be with any of these companies. If Matt Bellamy had taste Manson might have done something interesting but they want £13k for something that doesn't even have SS frets afaict. The sustainer pickup is interesting but as Vai notes they sound awful and it's not worth putting on a signature guitar until they learn to make a few that sound good even if he uses one for a couple of songs to get the effect (although the most notable thing about Vai's latest sig guitar is that he doesn't play it - he gets the frets scalloped, pickups changed, switches added, trem altered etc - it's the least signature guitar on the market right now - you'd be better buying an RG and doing those mods and you'd get something closer to what he's playing than the stock PIA for less money. The funny shaped holes are just making it awkward for them to polish and do the finish so it's a guitar with 2 novelty shaped holes in it that is rough and unfinished if you feel inside them because the guys at the factory can't get tools inside it - for £3k.

Great video well done. I'm local to Birmingham and have been going for quite a few years. I've seen it grow and develop to what it is now with custom guitar companies, traders and performers. Unfortunately I had to miss it this year but your coverage has made up for that. I have noticed that over the years the big brand names that used to attend have either stopped (Yamaha) or scaled back their stands, but it does allow more space for the bespoke builders. It is a great event and very reasonably priced too.

I understand that these companies have to make money too to stay in business, but these are some pretty high prices on guitars from next to no-name brands and a lot of them seem to use CNC machines. They just seem out of the range of most consumers when compared to the more well known brands. Plus I want to see more unique shapes, or at least twists on the same tired shapes. I really liked Doro Guitars for uniqueness and Grainger guitars some neat twists on explorers and V’s
@michael1
@michael1 4 месяца назад
Yep, exactly this. There's no reason to buy one and made in Britain just means the price is several fold higher than the value - and the one company shown that weren't just copying the Gibson / Fender shape look like they got someone to hold a pencil on a piece of blank paper and then prodded them with a cattle prod.

Yes and no. These guys are basically making copies of guitars that (the originals) are basically bought by middle aged collectors. But no one is collecting these brands - we've never heard of them. Once upon a time these were the guitars being played. In 1970-something, when Jimmy Page still had his hair and his teeth and he was standing drug addled playing a les paul badly it was the coolest thing on the planet. Today it's an antique (the guitar and jimmy) Peter Green came back from the dead for a bit and even he didn't want to play his old guitar - so it's kind of sad how much they're still flogging it for.

I hope offset revolution makes Bass VI upgrade bridges it would be a huge improvement.

I hope we can try the Tuffset in a Bass VI soon! The intonation range is definitely suitable - it's about double the range of a standard bridge, and it frees up all the space usually taken up by the intonation springs. Our string slot is just a hair over 1.5mm wide, so I'm not sure how well some of the heavier bottom E gauges would seat into that - we'll have to try!

Looking at the neck joints on the first batch, id bet they were manufactured in the factory Cort owns. Not that theres anything wrong with that, Cort have been knocking it out of the park these last few years or so.

Good show review, thanks 👍. Mansons seems to be the most innovative around. Hardly surprising, since they've been catering to the needs of one of the most innovative players for the past 20+ years in Matt Bellamy. Regarding the top inlays, EBMM were doing that on the Petrucci Majesty models from about 2016 - nothing new there, just a variation on a theme.

Great overview, I'd always wondered what it was like, almost went to it this year. Didn't realise there were so many guitar builders based in the UK! real cottage industry. Definitely not the Corporate fest that is NAMM! Did you bump into Chappers?
