With Ronald Acuna Jr. and Shohei likely to win the MVP awards this year, I decided to discuss who I think were the biggest MVP snubs in Major League Baseball history, including Albert Pujols, Alex Rodriguez, and Pedro Martinez.

Nobody in history had a more legitimate gripe with the MVP voters than Ted Williams. He had 2 triple crown seasons and the third year you mentioned where he batted .406, and he didn't get MVP any of those three seasons. Biggest gripe with rules is Babe Ruth. During most of his era, there was a rule preventing a player of on winning the award twice. So when people say Ruth only won 2 MVPs, they aren't making the compelling argument they think they are. Without that rule, there's an argument that he wins a decade straight, except for his shortened 1925.

The 2 biggest snubs in my opinion were Albert Belle in 1995 & Barry Bonds in 1991 Belle had .317/.401/.690 with 50 HR & 52 Doubles🤯 As a Braves fan I have to admit that Terry Pendleton didn’t deserve the MVP over Bonds in 1991

I've heard Ted Williams had so few MVPs is because he and the press (who voted for MVP) did not get along, and many journalists would vote against Williams because of it. Don't know the veracity of it, but it would make some sense

I’d have to disagree on that one. While the park adjusted stats favor Piazza’s bat slightly, Walker was 1 home run away from a 50-30 season, had 10 total zone runs compared to Piazza’s -2, and led the NL in WAR, so I think the voters got that one right

Can’t wait until batting average & RBI’s are no longer mentioned in these videos. All that matters is OBP, slugging, OPS, OPS+, total bases, HR, doubles & triples are fun to look at too. Nothing batting average tells you that OBP & slugging don’t, & RBIs/runs are determined by how good your team is & other random factors

Man it's about 50 robberies. But when considering robberies for MVP from 1950’s to the 90's, I really consider it a legitimate robbery when a player leads their team to first place or the best record and that player has superior numbers or WAR, and still not receive the award. While they give the award to the player with inferior numbers and didn’t lead their team to the playoffs or first place. These are the robbery cases: 1952 Jackie Robinson, 1958 Mickey Mantle, 1962 Willie Mays, 1969 Hank Aaron, 1971 Willie Stargell, 1974 Reggie Jackson, 1981 Rickey Henderson, 1985 George Brett, 1987 Allan Tramell, 1988 Daryl Strawberry (sort of ), 1991 Barry Bonds, 1995 Albert Belle, and so on again the better player with better numbers leads his team to 1st and still doesn't win it. Like Musial not getting it while his teammate Marty Marion gets the award in 1944. It's sad

Being 50 years old and having started watching a baseball in 79 as a kindergartener, 1984 was my MVP breaking point, Winner: CL Willie Hernandez 4.8 #4: 1B Eddie Murray 7.1 #5: 1B Don Mattingly. 6.3 #9 SS Alan Trammel 6.8 #12: 1B Avin Davis. 5.9 #22: 3B Buddy Bell. 6.1 #22: OF Lloyd Mosbey. 7.3 #22: P Dave Stieb. 7.9 #27: SS CAL Ripken. 10.0... Eddie Murray likely lost more MVPs to the reliever as MVP trend in the 80s, Though his teammate cow likely deserve this one more than Eddie........ Likewise Dave Steve was the biggest victim of cy Young snubs during the 80s, due to the lack of teens success. .... Fortunately Murray did enough in his career that writers had no choice but to vote him into the Hall, but Dave's team hasn't had the same HOF Good Fortune, even though he is eminently worthy of the hall. It is fascinating to see names like Alvin Davis and Buddy Bell included here, both were solid contributors and kwasi stars but MVPs? Let's just say I never pictured him in that light

Pedro Martinez in 1999 actually got more first place votes than Ivan Rodriguez on the MVP ballot. Two writers left Pedro off their ballot. So to say Pedro got snubbed is a massive understatement. Ivan Rodriguez stole AL MVP that year, and it wasn't even his fault. And not to knock Ivan Rodriguez; in any other year he would be the rightfully deserved MVP winner.

Bonds could have won more like in 1991, 1996 before the peds. He could have won in 2000 as well. It was clearly a robbery in 1991 as he led the Pirates to another division crown. I'm okay with Kent winning it over Bonds, because Kent was a second baseman who put up those great numbers. Teammates take votes from each other like the Big Red Machine had 7 MVP award winners from 5 players in the 70's and the Orioles had 3 different MVPs in their heyday back in the late 60's early 70's. Same thing with the Brooklyn Dodgers in the late 40's and early 50's even though Duke Snider never won one.
