I think young people all over the world are suffering the consequences of those that came before them. We were sold a dream based on a broken system that is now collapsing.
Agreed. It's definitely a US thing too in the sense education doesn't really mean too much. It's more who you know and work ethic over education for sure.
@@dval4441not really. That’s literally the American dream… "it doesn’t matter where you come from, if you work hard enough you can make it!" So your statement actually implies that it works… when it does not. Education HELPS, but not because of the education you had but rather the PLACE where you had it and the people you got to know… nowadays you can’t simply go to a carshop and ask for a job… But what’s even worse, if you want a good job that pays off you HAVE to have contacts to people on power there… Being well educated and working your ass off won’t help you. Especially working your ass off won’t, because thousands of people do each day and it gets them nowhere sadly.

Lu Xin took his own life after graduating college and ending up in a 9-9-6 job for Foxconn. He wrote in one of his final diary entries (paraphrased) "I came here for money, and realised I was wasting my life, my future. I made a mistake right out the gate of adult life. I am lost." His coworker and friend tried to grab him as he threw himself from the factory window, but not in time. As someone who has seen this side of life far too much, as calcified as I should be to it all, I can't help but weep. I understand what it's like to wish nothing but to lie flat and rot, and now bai lan is a life for millions. It's cruelty beyond words to be born into such a society that forces you to give up.
I know that Foxconn is a leading company so that means it is really hard for someone to find a job there. What a sad story, to hear someone take their life after just starting to work there.

It's FAKE Communism, which is the real problem. To do Communism you do NOT skip straight to it, because it'll NEVER work. Like trying to be a Doctor WITHOUT going through Med School. You have to train people like what Germany is doing, to make them Other Minded and used to a Government that takes care of it's people, and for people to WANT that. To have high Worker Safety & Protection. You do that for 100+ years, and only THEN can you THINK about planning on making everyone equal. Of figuring out how to share resources and everything equally.

There won’t be any changes unless older generation step down from their current position and then gradually being replaced by the younger generation. Otherwise, it remains the same way as it used to be. 😢
I teach English online and I have a Chinese student, he's in high school, that always tells me that he worries about his future. I feel bad because I can't relate to him. When I was his age, I was just chill. I have future plans but not to the extent that I worry about it.
Now is already 2024 but people in china still remain conservative on moral and sexuality issues. They refused to change and not plan to do so in the future 😂😂
@@MrChristopherGuest don’t u know that being conservative on moral and sexuality issue effect everything ? For instance, sexuality issue might effect the chances of being employed/unemployed. The key word here is conservative. If the society turned out to have conservative mindset, nothing will be changed at all. Look at Japan, china and Korea.
Being conservative doesn't mean you'll get a job in the field you studied. That's a strange and silly idea. Furthermore education not leading to jobs has been a problem for decades when the world in general was more conservative.
@@MrChristopherGuest strange and silly? Haha In Asian countries, most of the engineers are male. Due to gender stereotypes, employers will tend to hire male for engineer post. If a female showed up for any engineer post, employers will start to question the capability of that candidate. Traditional values have defined rigid gender roles. Get it?
You pressure yourself to study hard but in the end it was useless why can they not learn while having fun? Studying supposedly is fun because when you are happy while learning then it is meaningful for you
Not only in china, but the world too. College degrees are everywhere. You don't have that much jobs that require college degrees. My advice to teenagers are: study till middle school then come out to work. Find a field you can excel in and become a specialist in your field. The moment you could do high quality work that very few people are able to match with, that is when you could command a high salary.
Once everyone has degrees and you don't, have fun finding any job outside of MacDonald's. Even apprenticeship for trades require good highs school grades and they're few and far between. Just bad advice.
I used to do a small business with a Chinese vendor and after some time, we developed good rapport and we exchanged social media information (he used VPN to make TikTok and Instagram accounts). His accounts were full of screaming motivational videos in the Chinese language and a few posts about his activities. But the screaming motivational videos were a bit off for me, because they seemed to emphasise so much on overcoming big struggles, becoming super successful and that men in China have more on the line than the women. I guess the videos kind of reflect the Chinese mindset there, as some of the clips seem to have come from their movies/tv dramas scenes. Anyway, this is the thing. Despite the situation in China, I bet you that the small business I dealt with were mostly of nice people. Of course, in the end they're just trying to make sales but the guy whom I have built rapport with even sent me a couple of videos that he took of the snow/winter they had that year, like a friend would do. Therefore I would like to remind all viewers that despite the situations in China and the problems with their government along with corruption, injustice and etc., don't hate it on the people. One person's suffering does not trump another and it takes one spoil fruit to affect a whole basket.

One thing you forgot to say about the 996 jobs is that even these jobs are very competitive, and in many cases workers have to do unpaid overtime in order to stay in their position. so sometimes 14-15 hours a day of work. and for those who are curious, there are actually people dying from overworking in china, even in office jobs (not even accident caused by exhaustions, just dead on the spot without warning), and it is a very serious problem chinese workers have to deal with. (not authorities though, I never saw them doing anything about this)
It's the same in India, huge population size, I am sure quite a decent portion of them are really bright, yet after they do eventually get through university, the country itself doesn't really have enough high tier positions for their career type. Because their country is not yet maturely developed, and is still undergoing development. That's why so many of them have to go to western countries to then get jobs more fitting of their level, such as doctors, engineers etc (since their home country doesn't have enough of those positions as it's less developed). Most advanced countries like Japan, UK, Taiwan, South Korea, Sweden, Germany are a bit different, in that they have enough positions for the new generation of high achievers from university, since these countries have a lot of technological companies and huge medical industries etc as they are so developed.
I agree with you. But here many indians I see (not all, but many) are keen to take anything from our countries that they can. Heck, one of my indian flat mates TOLD me that. He said we were naive and just giving away things beyond dtupidity, and it's our fault for offering things that people take (I think he means trusting, education, social supports like benefits, healthcare etc). He wanted to find a new zealand girl, convince her he loved her to get citizenship, then leave her and bring his whole family over from india. He said my country, new zealand, is a hole because we don't understand that "some people are just better than others". I have heard this from many other indians. I have been bullied and exploited by some in the workplace, and I almost had a nervous breakdown. I have had guys try to assult me and tell me it's my fault (???) and be very creepy, online and in person? I do know this is a generalisation, and ofc in such a massive population not all are like this, and I do not strive to be racist. But when you see an uptick in violent sexual crimes and stalking that directly correlates to the increase in indian immigrants (where they refuse to name the perpetrators for fear we will be racist because they are all pakistani, or indian etc) it's very hard to not get cynical. Is it the discrepancy of culture? Were our society traditionally wants different things, values different things?? I try to judge everyone as their own person, but it is hard not to be frustrated and draw stereotypes. I am sure this is the same for my culture for those who come here, but it's hard to picture when you see your foundational culture and society changing rapidly and you have no say in it at all and, moreover, if you profess any distress at this you are labelled a racist because multiculturalism is beautiful!!! I don't know. Maybe I am just a horrible person, but personal experiences do muddy how I view many indians now :( I have had some wonderful colleagues and friends who are indians, and then I have encountered large groups of indian lads trying to look up my skirt and felt very scared, and been followed and an indian guy tried to assult me as a teenager (I thankfully fought back and scared him off by fighting, miraculously!!) which colours my view, no matter what i try to do and be fair and objective.... sorry.
Its not about communism. Even in HK ppl with a degree cant get jobs that they study for. Its about supply of graduates vs demand for the skills of those graduates. Basically graduates are either over qualified or do not have the needed skill or theres not enough job offers.
