565 with its odd pickup configuration & the long gone 7620 7 string, the more recent offerings don't have what this one had IMO. Also love the AM & AS series, lots of bang for the buck in the semi-hollow family.

yea, apparently according to guitar “experts” they can’t make instruments or guitars. but that’s pretty much just affluent privileged white people. I don’t mean literally white, i just mean people who have enough means and money to go after Fenders and Gibsons when they are 24 without a job. Like, a Collings is an eight thousand dollar guitar, and most privileged kids getting into guitar think that’s normal... Every poor person in the world plays an Ibanez. It’s become the brand of the working class, regardless of race. And their Japanese made stuff is really amazing. Most guys, including this video, have no idea about the Japanese Talman Series. Explosions in the Sky sound. By far my favorite Strat/Tele Alternative.

@@petermoss208 I understand what you're saying but believe me. Ibanez plays like itself and nothing plays like an Ibanez because of it's unique wizard neck and tell you what? The closest neck profile to an Ibanez hyper wizard is a JP majesty. I moved from Ibanez to Charvel and came back. Ibanez is something else for me. It's not like Ibanez is cheap, but most American guitars being oddly expensive because they are AmEriCaN-mAde. I really don't have this point of view about Ibanez being poor people's guitar 😂 you better checkout JCRG line.

Throughout the 35 years that I've played guitar, I've owned Gibsons, Fenders, Charvels, Jacksons, ESPs, BC Richs, Washburns, etc because I'm sure I'm leaving out a few. When I joined a cover band, I needed a guitar with a double locking tremolo, so I bought an Ibanez RG1570. I was shocked how versatile it is. With the 5 way switch and the volume knob, I can pretty much get any tone I'm looking for with it. I have since sold off most of my guitars and now have the original RG1570 I bought and have since added an RG520QS, RG550, RG7620, and a MIJ RG470. i just don't think you will find a better guitar at those price points. They check all the boxes. Tuning stability, craftsmanship, and versatility.

Ibanez is high quality - spesially RG Prestige and up. I have also owned many Ibanez guitars and I wait every year to see their new models because I want to buy a high end Ibanez. But they are a little bit too much bling, gold, the Vai-inlay tree on the fretboard on the custom models and so. I wish they would make a normal "strat" or a RG with thin neck in normal colors and whithout all the bling. I'm still waiting for that to happen. In Norway it's normally people in the countryside who like bling and stuff like that. The last good looking Ibanez I owned was a RGA-321 Maybe Ibanez sells a lot in Japan but they should consider to make a few models more toned down - to appeal to people who otherwise buy Fender, Suhr and so on. Charvel are also a bit over the top where the top models looks like they was made 20 years ago.

Some years ago I wanted a LP because hey, it's a LP, I got myself an Iceman because its pretty much same specs, scale length, neck angle, controls etc, but its just so flashy that I couldn't not buy it. I think the Problem are the Guitar Players that have HUGE confidence issues and stigmas, that phrse "does not sound AS GOOD as the original" ...just sound different, or you should say, does not sound "THE SAME, the Les Paul also does not sound like an Ibanez.... are just different....." ... and yes, you really can play ANY kind of records with any good guitar and being careful about the pedals, amps and Effx,,,,, there is not such a thing where you only can use a Tele, Strat or Les Paul (yes, each guitar have a characteristic, but is not that you only have to play it with that particular guitar)....... many feel are cooler with an Old Strat or the Fender Logo... all that is really BS and insecurities

The thing that so awesome about Ibanez guitars is when you get that wizard neck and you slap it on any of the bodies, they just play good. There are far too many people who squeeze every single thought in their brain out through their mouths, thinking that they're going to find some magical mixture that's just going to elevate them to the height of playing ability when dude it comes down to hard work and what you're going to do with that thing.. How you express yourself great guitars and amplifiers only enhance that. A great guitar player can sit down with the lowest level equipment and still get a decent sound out of it... But a low quality player can sit down with the best stuff on the market and still sound low quality... The very first Ibanez guitar I picked up I fell in love with.. that was many many guitars ago I've played some of the highest quality ones and some of the lower quality ones, and I'm telling you, if they're set up right, you can't really tell if the lights are just right you're feeling good and your noodling around..... Doesn't really matter with ibanez. Like I say set them up right and treat them well... If you know what you're doing you've got a fresh set of strings... Ibanez guitars will do it for you... Like you said Robert... If you're listening to it in a mix, you're never going to know what kind of guitar it is.

I absolutely can’t stand the wizard neck on 6 string guitars. Way too thin. Ibanez seems to have realised this and created the AZ series that has a slightly thicker neck. I wish they had made the neck thickness an option. There are some very cool models that I’d love to own, except it has the cardboard thickness neck on it 😅 It’s so funny to me that what one guy absolutely loves, another can’t stand. There is no right and wrong in guitar specs.
@wildstarchild6879
@wildstarchild6879 2 месяца назад
@@CoenBijpost agreed! I love the thin neck on the Ibanez myself, but when I got that little Fender American Ultra Stratocaster… It’s somewhere in between that and the baseball bat neck of the normal Stratocaster… I have not had a chance to get my hands on an AZ yet, but that Ultra neck is the best feeling neck I’ve ever wrapped my hands around. I don’t know if it’s because it has really good rounded over fretwork or the rolled edges, but it’s fantastic.. I’m like you though in the end every guitar player prefers a guitar set up the way they like it. That should go without saying, lol but you know, as long as there are guys with guitars and other things we’re gonna throw them on the table and measure them lol 😏😂😂😂

The biggest problem for me with Ibanez is when I want to switch pickups on how to rewire them was different from the standard wiring and I wanted a different 5 way switch in it and the damn switch would not hold it without touching the wood. I would say the Ibanez RG550 and upper models as the Prestige series when it's about versatility really outperform Les Pauls and Fender strats, sound great for lower gain and cleaner styles. Ibanez has its own sound and it's great not only for metal. A noticeable difference, at least for me, it's comparing to a Les Paul with a fixed bridge, dismissing pickups and pots, to a floating locking tremolo with the springs that makes a different tone, not bad, but its own with a particular resonance that some love. I still have an RG550 from around '90, it's still great after 30 years with proper care, only thing I got tired of the locking tremolo and nut, swapped for a Wilkinson VS-100 and an ebanol wide nut, and still sounds amazing with improved sustain, keeping the original pickups V7 & V8. So yeah also RG models can be very customizable. Great video Robert to make justice for Ibanez RGs or similar "modern" guitars. Thanks!

RG2EX1 here (the black GC-only one) . I've had 2 of them. They are cheap and very good. Hardtail. My favorite electric acoustic is the "Black diamond", a black acoustic with a diamond soundhole and two-color diamond inlays. Played as light as any electric. I also had a beautiful cherry Artstar double cut LP style thing from the late 80s or early 90s. Fully bound body, neck, and headstock. Gorgeous. Weighed like a boat anchor, though. When I first started playing in the late 80s, I was a Strat guy. Once I felt a Wizard neck, I was hooked. High quality, and cheap used. They also hold up to serious abuse, so I never worried about getting one used. They are by far my favorite brand, although I have a Diamond Series Schecter C-1 Platinum that has really grown on me! From my recollection, Ibanez were always seen as cheap, for beginners or for people too cheap ro buy a Gibson or Fender. Regardless how many awesome stars swear by them, I think they still kind of have that aura. If that means I'll never be a 'real' guitarist as long as I keep using them, so be it. Here's to being an eternal intermediate!

I love Ibanez. I have the original desert yellow RG550. Gigged with it in the 90s. Played many different genres. Around 2003 I picked up an RG320 at a flea market for $30, replaced the damaged trem/bridge and gigged with it for years. I recently got an Artcore hollow body and love that too. My daughter has a Gio and even those budget guitars are awesome. Even my Ibanez mandolin is pretty sweet. Still need to learn to play that one.

The 1st pro guitar I ever bought as a beginner was an Ibanez SG back in 1974/75. It was an absolute awesome guitar. Back then they were starting to compete in the US markets and specifically with Gibson. I sold that guitar in the 80s but I still regret doing that. Today I own 7 of them along with Fender, PRS, etc. I've even built my own guitars. Ibanez has always focused on achieving affordable quality and they almost ALWAYS sound great. I also recommend my younger students buy the short scale super Strats for smaller hands. As much as I want to play on different guitars, I always come back to my Ibby's. Even my blonde 12 string acoustic is phenomenal. I've always found them sonically diverse so they will always be my go-to fiddle. But the biggest reason I play on them is their necks, especially the Wizard neck. They are so comfortable and fast. I don't care that they have an 80's reputation, they are versatile.

I think there are mostly 3 types of Ibanez guitars: 1) their 80s Rock/Metal axes, 2) their multi-purpose do-it-all guitars for Top 40 bands who have to play everything, or beginners who don't know yet, and 3) innovative guitars which are embraced by the younger generation. That's cool, they found their spots. I don't see any problem here. Not everybody can be an Ibanez lover, just like with any other brand. And I admit: I'm not an Ibanez lover either, but I have respect for them.

Glad you're enjoying Ibanez now. Favourite - my '91 Ibanez Universe 7 string I've had since '93. A bit rough around the edges since it was my gigging guitar in the 90's. Others in my little collection Artcore AS53 - just a sweet understated guitar with a matte finish. Tobacco flat I thin it's called. AX7521 - a '99 24.75" scale 7 string. Plays easy like an LP, but has a very flat fingerboard. And MIJ guitar I scored for a great price quit a few years ago. Ibanez PS60 - worst quality control of any boxed guitar I've ever purchased. So much work required, plus new chrome covered pickups, but it was a 49th birthday gift from my wife. Now a great little guitar that one of my students plays most lessons (young lady metalhead, small hands, crazy talented).

I've owned plenty of Ibbys since the early 80s, from Destroyers to the S and RG models, an original floral Jem when they were released, roadstars, etc etc. The issue has never been the sound. Some of my best sounding guitars ever were old Ibanez Destroyers lIs and S models. The issue for me has always been everything they make FEELs like a shred guitar. The neck shapes/widths- even their semi hollows feel shreddy. They cant make a nice rounded chunky c to save their life. Even the old 70s lawsuit guitars had thin and wide necks.

Defunct launch codes. Now THAT is funny! I can understand their reasoning behind the alpha-numeric coding system, but giving every model a cool name like "Jem" on top of the code seems like a no brainer to me. Ibanez could still use the A/N coding system to mark the guitars on the label, and then add on the "cool" names for the other 99% of us to use to describe each model among the guitar playing community. Seems simple to me.

The only problem with it is, that you have to become a BETTER musician to properly get the 80s sound and that's a lot of work! 2020s metal players have devolved to the point where 95 percent of what they play is two note power chords and chugging on the lowest string with insane gain levels. I finally picked up an Ibanez and have to say it is my favorite guitar that I have ever owned (and I have been playing since 1989). There are many reasons why I love it. I actually bought a relatively inexpensive model too. One is the playability. This is maybe the most playable guitar I have owned. The next is the lightness. As I get older, heavier guitars just are harder for me to play comfortably. The lightness makes a massive difference in my enjoyment. The sound, even though a crappy little amp, is so sweet. And I don't think I have ever felt as inspired when I sit down to play a guitar. I just write more music on the Ibanez. And definitely the point you make about the switches is sound too.

My problem with Ibanez is the price tag for the higher level of quality. We have brands like Schecter or ESP, that basically fit in the same space. No one listens to a track and goes, "That's a Schecter, that's an ESP". And these brands deliver more focused bang for your buck for the price range and for the value. Cheap Ibanezes are not good guitars. (They're designed to make you want to buy a better Ibanez.) Cheap Schecters or ESPs can be good guitars. I purchased a $500-ish Schecter a few years ago, and it was such a quality instrument overall that I recently purchased a $1,700 Schecter. I had the budget lined up to do so, and I knew that the quality there. Now, don't get me wrong: the more expensive Ibanezes are great. But they're also more expensive than other comparable brands. You'd pay $2,700 for something that's less focused than, say, a $1,700 Schecter. Ibanez, in my humble opinion, doesn't need to be hungry anymore. Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Tom Quayle, Lari Basilio, Andy Timmons, Martin Miller, the list goes on . . . all of these guys have been using Ibanez guitars for years. Ibanez isn't innovating. They're not doing anything new or exciting or risky, even though they can probably afford to do so. No, Ibanez relies on its signature artist models to provide the same thing we had 40 years ago.

If a headstock gets broken on an ibanez there isn't really enough meat at the nut where the truss rod is to repair it..... Ibanez rocks. got 3 RG prestige models, 1 in HH, 1 in HSH and 1 in HSS. Also picked up a AZ prestige with SSS and I think between those 4 guitars, I can virtually play anything from any genre. I mean when it comes to the. RG, it’s a super Strat with a bolt on nec, it’s going to sound just like any other super Strat with a bolt on neck and the thing that makes it different from other super strats is the way it feels in your hand and the neck otherwise no different than a Jackson soloist or a Charvel. I personally tend to enjoy the wizard original neck and it’s one of the only brands aside from custom-made guitars that actually have that neck profile. otherwise, I’m not sure what I would be playing if all Guitars offered that neck profile. The AZ is more or less Ibanez take on a more traditional modern Stratocaster, more traditional neck that is still fairly thin, non locking trem, SSS etc. nothing special there either, just a Strat that looks slightly different. Feels a little different, but primarily like a Strat with better upper fret access. if you were to blindfold me and play my actual Strat next to it I probably couldn’t tell the difference. Only way I would be able to tell is if I was holding it. and furthermore, Eddie Van Halen played a Ibanez on the first album and that is one of the most sought after classic guitar tones in history.

Jackson/ESP/BC Rich guy here. I like buying import guitars, mainly MIJ guitars from the 90s-00s, and upgrading them from the ground up with new bridges and electronics. The aim is to build a guitar with a top quality bridge, name brand pickups, and every possible major wiring combination (series/each coil split/parallel/phase/killswitch) for $1000-1200. That said, the biggest problem with Ibanez guitars is their insistence on proprietary parts, mainly their Edge-derived bridges. Because the Ibanez bridge routes are largely proprietary, this makes it more difficult to buy a cheap Ibby and upgrade it with off-the-shelf Schaller, Floyd Rose, or Gotoh bridges. Sometimes these bridges will fit, but more often than not you have to route additional wood from the bridge cavity. Original Edge bridges are also expensive new with little added benefit (Ibanez quoted me $300 when I asked for the price of a new Original Edge). Used Original Edges are hard to find, are usually well worn in when you do find them, and expensive for what you get. Herman Li's video on bridge tuning stability shows an Original Edge comes out of tune like any other bridge, especially if it is not set up right. Ibby retrofitting has gotten to be such a complicated subject that the Ibby Jemsite forum actually has a chart demonstrating what bridge fits what year/model of Ibby. Meanwhile, with my Jackson/ESP LTD/BC Rich recessed bridges, a Schaller 1302 (non-Lockmeister) will fit the smaller route of licensed bridges 99% of the time. You do have to use a Floyd Rose R8 nut since the nut shelf is shallower on those import guitars. FR R8 nuts work fine with Schaller bridges. OFRs can replace Floyd Rose Specials for newer import guitars. If you detune and the saddle screws are too long to intonate and do full pull ups, a Schaller 1302 can replace a Floyd Rose Special. Ibanez also has somewhat conservative aesthetics. I really only like Icemans and Destroyers, especially the old X series Destroyers from the early 80s that were star shaped. I would love an Iceman with a Floyd Rose like the discontinued Sam Totman model or a 25.5" Floyded Destroyer. But these aren't consistently in regular production. Everything else with Ibby is basically a super Strat. The Xiphos was a thing for a while, but it comes and goes. That said, I have a 2000 Ibanez SX-90 Korean made parlor acoustic that I love. After some bridge adjustments, the action was lower and it feels great. I also have an Iceman and two Destroyers. I like them, but they aren't 100% what I want because they lack floating bridges. Ibby also seems to make great basses in extended ranges for modest prices assuming their pickup shapes aren't proprietary and standard EMG sized soapbars can fit in them. Ibby is also known for flat necks and low action, but I like big, tall frets, D shaped necks, and some gap under the strings via truss rod adjustments to mimic a slight fretboard scallop and make vibrato easier. But Ibby does flat necks. My last complaint is a lack of features on Ibbys. On every guitar I do the following electronics mods: Volume only: active pickups (24 volts for EMGs), Shadow killswitch volume pot. V/V/tone: independently wired passive neck and bridge pickup. Phase switch on neck pickup. Shadow killswitch volume pot on bridge. Seymour Duncan Triple Shot pickup rings on each pickup. .47uf tone cap. This gives me every major wiring option, a killswitch, a phase switch, and a tone pot. The guitar becomes a Swiss army knife of tone. It's difficult to find these kinds of mods on budget guitars. So, I just do them myself. But I can't use Triple Shots if Ibby insists on pickguards. This gets me away from the Jem series. The Sabre series is so thin that often all the electronics won't fit in the body cavity. So for me buying an Ibby is like buying a Toyota Corolla when you really want a Honda Civic Type R. They are both high quality cars but a Civic just has more style, features, and performance. Ibanez makes fine guitars. If I just wanted a fixed bridge guitar to pound power chords out on like an Artcore, I would have no problem with them. But I want more features for less money with more aggressive looks than what Ibanez usually offers in mid priced production guitars. Ultimately, I decided I liked a 25.5" Explorer shape with a Floyd Rose bridge. This took me to the Jackson Kelly as my main guitar. Nearly 30 years later I own more active pickup Kellys than any other guitar. Edit: if I'm going Voyager, it's going to be an 80s Kramer Voyager--the one with huge, sharp points. Steffan Kummerer of Obscura's Ran/ESP signature model (really just a Floyded 7 string Hondo Death Dagger from the early 80s) is a place to start for me visually. But with aggressive shapes neck drop and balance become an issue, and not everyone wants to play a pointy. Again, Ibanez just isn't metal enough for me in terms of looks.

My problem with most Ibanez guitars is the fingerboard radius. I have small hands so I prefer the 9.5" radius, but I can go up to 12" on a Les Paul type due to the shorter scale, as long as the neck profile isn't chunky. Ideally, I want a guitar with a 24.75" scale and a 9.5" radius on a modern C neck. If someone at Ibanez sees this comment, please make it happen.

Put some 36th anniversary dimarzios in the for a low output paf sound and it’s a super lush clean tone that breaks ups nicely but never loses its clarity. Can play the densest chords and the harmony is never lost. The gold hardware on the 670 is such an elegant look and the rosewood w/dot inlays make it look much more classic than modern shredder. 4 reasons that my students give me over and over and over for not buying superstrats of various brands, not just ibanez over say a normal strat from fender or g&l or other brands are: 1. Ugly and/or pointy head stocks. 2. Floyd Rose on a lot of them, 3. lack of "normal/classic colours". Aaand 4. Apparently people want pickguards on strat looking guitars and alot of them dont have it and when they do, they tend to fall on the other 3 points. personally I only agree with one of these, I am not a fan of pointy headstocks but it is not a deal breaker for me, I have owned plenty pointy guitars and basses. My goto super strat is a Charvel mainly because it's the one they had in the store at the time when I was looking for something with a "fast" neck and it is shell pink, we don't get a lot of that as south paws. Peace

My ibanez has become my main guitar. The five way switch with hum single hum gets every tone I want or need for rock, blues, jazz, and hair metal.

Comfort is what keeps me coming back to Ibanez. I can get my strat sounds but it weighs less, has higher fret accessibility, slimmer neck.

After 40 years of Gibson/Fenders I got my 1st one. JS-24 (satch model) and it’s becoming 5:38 5:40 my favorite! Pull pots and Floyd rose. Super versatile and the tone is amazing. Blues, R&B, Funk, anything. The neck is comfy and fast. Fit and finish are great. It’s a Hot Rod.

For my retirement, (and for christmas), I bought an Ibanez Gio 121 SP. I play it for fun on a small Vox headphone amp. ( My neighbours don't like music.). I can get different sounds switching between humbuckers and single coil, and I don't have any problem at all. All I did was raise the action on the bridge with a tiny allen key, and now it's allright. This is a very nice superstrat, I like it!

Im mostly and electric guitar player and dont own an Ibanez electric, but I have their AC340 accoustic that i picked out in Guitar Center and fell in love with. It competes with the much more expensive Martin OOO-15m. And then i got their Gio 200 as my only bass guitar and that one also is amazing for the money - comes with PJ pickups, active preamp, and a small lightweight mahogany body for about $200.

I started with a simple Ibanez in the early 80’s and then I met my hero Paul Gilbert and never really played anything else but Ibanez

Bro, I literally had a dream a good ten years before playing guitar that I was playing a yellow Ibanez rg550 while being surrounded by dirt bikes jumping. I only realized what guitar it was a few year ago. I’ve gotta get one eventually. Ibanez are the best. An rg blows a tele away at versatility
