Tiktok was banned here in India in 2020. It was one of the best thing that happened at the time but soon Instagram and RU-vid became the same and killed our attention span! I do feel bad for content creators sometimes but i think bad content was being appreciated more

I only watched RU-vid, mostly long form content, but I still feel like my attention span getting lower and lower, clicking away even when watching content I'm interested in. I think it's because we all have the ability to do so these days. Unlike TVs a decade ago which we can only turn on/off and choose between a very limited number of channels. I guess we all just need to get used to it now.

Indian government banned Tiktok in 2021 because of privacy concerns and all of tiktokers just shifted to Reels and Shorts.I recon the same is gonna happen to USA. unless we change the mindset itself nothing will change.

If TikTok had done something new, it was the revelation of how immature and insecure western culture is (especially when it comes to raising children's personality and western adults' underdeveloped self-control and lack of discipline in terms of individual's responsibility of one's action).

The video title is accurate, but the content - data privacy - is only a side-issue not the main problem. The problem is that, society is DISEASED, so people turn to social media (or guns) as an outlet or for comfort. Banning Tik-Tok would be like trying to plug a 1-nanometer hole in a 2-mile dam riddled with gaping 10-foot holes. Or like trying to kill a Hydra... the irony is that we use VPN to protect our privacy, while they want to protect our privacy and remove vpn just for tik tok

Everyone wants to point the blame on to others, but never to themselves. Like you said in the video there should be limits on all social media sites.

My dad in October last year and it sparked a journey of life change for, sure I’m still in high school and endless epiphanies are bound to happen however one of the best things I did was a modified version of dopamine detox. I haven’t been on tiktok in months and a few weeks ago I completely deleted it so proud of myself. I feel free again 😂

Yea, absolutely not. Its crazy that even snapchat got some shorts and you dont even need to swipe. Honestly the way things have gone, it really didnt surprise me. Guys, i know its hard but try not to stay hooked on shorts. The fast dopamine spikes are more worth getting from something else. Living on autopilot melts our brains at the end of the day. The big difference between TikTok and other social media apps is that the Chinese government has easy access. Not saying that TikTok is the only app That the chinese government has easy access to.

The issue isnt so much tik tok being addictive it is their horrible privacy controls. In china similar apps have given chinese government full control from bank accounts to the ability to purchase based on social media. The chinese government has also used this power doing small things from just hiding your message to larger such as arrest and blocking the ability to make any purchases.

You don't need to ban an app to not use it. I've never used it but I also don't want to force everyone else to live the same way I do. If this goes through what else are they going to take away from us "for our own good"? I'm an adult and as long as I'm not bothering anyone else I don't want anyone telling me what I can and can't do with my free time

I’m a bit tougher to track. I’ve shared the most anyone could do is track down the university that I go to. Unless they start tryna get data from my uni, they wouldn’t be able to figure out who I am. I don’t have/use social media (besides discord) so no-one will know who I am unless someone else posts a picture of me without my consent.

We were fine till smartphones became popular. At least in laptops, we had to switch it off, get up from the seat, take a break. But for phones, it's stuck to us constantly, like a leech, everything just one click away. A constant need to instantly reply to texts, posts, comments and what not. And that is affecting our attention span so much, its impossible to watch a movie at one setting, forget series or reading a book. I have tried doing something, where I switch off the wifi and data on my smartphone, it makes the phone virtually useless. If someone really needs to contact urgently, they can call. I use whatsapp on my laptop to reply to work texts, and mails. I am using my laptop for watching RU-vid, also this video, instead of lying down and staring at the phone screen. It is helping a lot. Smartphones are dumbing us.

Please ban twitter. It is extremely toxic. I am from India and our government banned tiktok probably 2 years ago. But tiktok doesn't cause even 1% of the harm that twitter is causing. The political handles on twitter and even the non-political ones centered around some kind of ethnicity or group are causing massive rifts in our society. Anyone can write anything. In a country like India which is so much diverse and so much populous, applications like twitter must be banned to keep the negativity and bigotry away from being directed towards any particular group.

These apps and social media platforms are not a REQUIREMENT of life. Use self control. It’s not social medias fault that you are not exercising SELF CONTROL.🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️ No one is holding anyone hostage to stay on their apps for hours and hours on end. You have to use self control.

Banning tiktok won't fix anything, another version of "tiktok" will take its place. Social media in general is toxic. Users are not giving the option to dislike or report shitty content(not easily atleast), so the internet ends up filled with nonsense

I had tik tok and my kids sometimes watched yt shorts. I can tell you the SHIT content that gets put out on yt shorts is worse then tik tok. I ended up blocking shorts (through Firefox add one) and to be fair I gave up tik tok.

OK but research did find that Tiktok is set up way differently than the version for abroad. The Chinese Tiktok algorithm shows much more of valued things, going to college, wanting to be an engineer, promos for their army, getting high grades etc and there is a time limit of 40 minutes. Meanwhile Western teenagers get very creepy stuff promoted very fast by the algorithm, I think we can all imagine the examples. And there is no time limit. You really got to wonder why Chinese kids get stuff promoted based on their countries shared values and less than a hour, and we get soul destroying stuff. Yes Facebook bad, very, I know. But also, China is a nation where a million plus people are locked up in concentration camps. Literal, concentration camps based on nothing but their religion and ethnicity. For all the currents faults in the West, which are numerous and grotesque, for me it doesn't cross the boundaries that China blatantly crosses. We in Europe said Never Again after Wo II, alluding to the Holocaust. Look who we are trading with though. Tiktok to me is very different than our own demon sites. I want it banned. I see the points in the video and some make sense but I do disagree with some. Obviously other apps take your data but I think there is a difference. Like you said apps take them give them to brokers they could get hacked or they sell, however the likelihood that they fall into bad hands are a lot less likely because the other option is straight to China. Someone may ask, “why does it have to be a country wide ban what threat does everyones data have?” This would be a problem because china would have a window into the American market, which could influence the world market and therefore China. They could use this for their benefit. You also mentioned the slippery slope of once tik tok is banned then who’s next. I think tik tok could be banned because it is an issue. As long as the others don’t become issues then there is no need. I mean China has been conveniently floating balloons above America and they are getting aggressive with their neighbors. No wonder we started looking into it.

Banning TikTok will solve lots of problems. Do know how many kids out there that watch Tiktok all day long? It has ruined them and the things they see on tiktok will cause them to act out some of the things they have been watching. Yes it also comes down to bad parenting too.
