Honestly. I just found this channel today and have binged several videos, and it's astounding how many captains made this extremely poor choice. Going out of an inlet like that, in high traffic/high wind conditions, there should NEVER be anyone in the bow. Let alone sitting on top of a cuddy cabin bow!! Florida, man.
That last boat- way too many people for a day like that. Those two guys just sitting on a slippery surface with feet over the transom are asking to go into the drink and meet Mr. Propeller.
A relative of the older gentleman in the back of the Cigarette 39 left a comment on another channel that showed that clip a few weeks ago. She said he broke his back, and they were trying to tell the "captain" to slow down.
It was the fox who stood up halfway out, only holding on with one hand and looking completely relaxed as they pounded through the waves. A solid win! And that mystery boat - complete composure of both boat and skipper, like he was walking to his table in a restaurant.
I live near a fairly large lake and one day my boss called and asked if I'd take a couple of his friends (potential clients) out for some bass fishing. It was somewhat windy, but I knew of a few protected coves where they could catch all they wanted. The boat was a 17 foot bass boat and I had the two men sit in the rear lower seats. We exited the channel and immediately hit one foot high chop. I knew the boat could handle it, so I pushed on. I looked back and one gentleman was holding his back and asking me to slow down. He then informed me that he'd recently had back surgery. I slowed to a crawl and turned the boat around, heading back to the dock. They asked me why we were going back. I just told them it would get worse across the middle of the lake and he couldn't take the beating. He said he'd chance it. I said you might, but I won't. I won't be responsible for putting someone in the hospital, knowing I could've avoided it. They were unhappy, my boss was unhappy, but no one got hurt and THAT made me happy!
The mystery boat is a Lekker Damsco 7.5 (24’) made in The Netherlands. It is available in a 10 meter (33’) version as well. It is made with an aluminum hull and comes with a cabin or open format and has a variety of Diesel and gas engine options which can be fitted with the stern drive. I think It looks cool.
Reminds me of an old lifeboat shape from an old ship. Looks double ended displacement, surprised to see it moving as fast as it is. Very nice boat, that shape boat takes the wild seas very well as you can see.
That boat on 03.00 min is a Dutch build boat and in Holland it's called a " sloep " , many off those type's are sailing here on inland waters and cannels in Amsterdam.

The first boat that came down hard and took the three passengers down...two of them ended up with their backs broken. The stupidity that can be found at Haulover never fails to amaze me.

That "Mystery Boat" is a Lekker (I think I spelled it correctly). They're made in the Netherlands and are rarely sold outside the Netherlands due to their limited manufacturing. That's why not so many people in the US even know what they are. That's about all I know about that boat, and I only know it because, as luck would have it, I saw one on Lake Winnipesaukee in NH just this past Summer and was able to talk to the owner while we were at the gas dock. I've never seen it since as he was a tourist that only stayed for a while. But, it was an interesting boat to say the least.
This type of boat is called a 'sloep' in Dutch and they're about the most seen type of boat here. We have really strict speed limits on most of the water, so we have slow boats to chill in and drink some beers or wine. If you ever visit Amsterdam on a summer day, you'll see the canals filled with them. I'm actually surprised that pontoon boats aren't more of a thing here because they're perfect for the type of boating we do here.

That first speed boat had some serious air coming off the first jump. Had that other wave been a little further out that jump would have been off the chain.
The first one is basically a snuff film, I think those passengers are forever changed. I can imagine the spinal compression and disc issues from that blast. Big yikes.
Those Lekker boats are very interesting. The hull shape is odd but very efficient at handling rough seas. And the Lekkers can flat move out with speeds in excess of 40kts.
Love watching fast boats going through Haulover Inlet but in this case feel sorry for the injured passengers on the Cigarette and its Captain who will regret what had happened due to his inexperience at Haulover to his friends. Hope they have a full and speedy recovery.
those commercial boats usually have full displacement hull and tall freeboard , they are actually pretty seaworthy, a lot of life boat use that kinda of design

Reminds me of being a few miles out on lake Michigan, on a 17 foot ski boat, 90 horse Mercury, the lake got calm as glass for about 5 minutes, then the wind picked up out of the North, we decided after a few minutes to get headed back to the channel, halfway back, it was downpouring, 10-12 foot rollers, you had to climb up a 10 foot wave to fall into an 8 foot trough, it was nuts. I earned a lot of respect for a big body of water that day. It was raining so hard, we were just looking at the compass, headed east, we couldn't see 500 feet in front of us. Seemed like an forever, probably took 20 minutes to be able to see the shore.

The crew on the Cigarette ended up with broken ribs, a broken ankle (right rear) and spinal damage (left rear, cracked vertebra IIRC?). His wife commented over on Wavy boats back when it happened. I hope he didn't do too much damage because he'll need the boat to help pay the lawsuits. He'll be lucky to have a house at the end I bet.
hilarious to have a whole channel for boats vs. Haulover, lmao. I found out that Haulover Inlet is "the most dangerous inlet in Florida and yet it has the most boat traffic of any inlet in the United States!"
Considering how many irresponsible jerks seem to be in charge of boats at Haulover Inlet it is always very satisfying to see Haulover get the win in an episode. I just feel sorry for the passengers.
We have Jones inlet near Long Island NY it has cross currents but nothing like this. What is the cause of such large dangerous waves? is there fast tide? just the geographics of the ocean floor?
Not sure about that boat you were asking about. But Lekker in Dutch means something similar to nice, sexy, tast, delicious. It can be used in multiple ways. I looked the company up, indeed, out of the Netherlands.
Does it do any type of structural damage, stressing, etc to those boats when they slam the water like that. One of the best vids I've seen so far of Haulover destroying the boats. The Lekker Boat tore it up
Boats vs Haulover is surprisingly good sport, but in my opinion, it is always best when Haulover gets the win over the boats, considering how many jerks get to be in “control” of some of these boats. It is a special treat when the coastguard has to rescue some of them, which happens from time to time.

This boat is a copy from a lifeboat from back in the days we call it a (sloep) everyone in Amsterdam is driving these kind of models through the Amsterdam canals.. ciao Erwin
The mystery boat is a design that is common in Europe. Often called a double ended dory. It was a common design that was found in LIFE BOATs yrs ago. Can be very stable, and works well with following seas because its basically two bows. The sea can was around with less of a chance of a "pitch pole". Didin't look real close as the youTube was running, but often they are controlled by a "tiller". Takes a lot of arm work but nothing can respond as fast as a tiller when fast control of the rudder is needed.
