As for faking shows, Ice Road showed someone trying to put tire chains on a semi truck that was not pulling a trailer and failing badly. It was very obvious that they were not even trying to do it as it is super easy to install chains on a fully exposed tire. Pickers is defiantly faked, there just isn't that much good stuff hidden around the corner. One show was where they were looking for parts of a very rare motorcycle. One guy is climbing up over a pile of parts and from behind a shelf, pulls out an engine. Problem was the engine was completely clean and not rusted like one that was " hidden away forever. " Other networks are not much better, look at the car restoration shows where the drama is so., so fake and they will lose the shop if the car isn't finished in 2 weeks from the time they decide to build a particular car. .

I Quit watching the "history" channel when they QUIT showing actual historical documentaries. They've been doing horrible, dishonest work for at least 7-8 years now. It's obvious the original show runners sold out to sensationalists.
Theyve been BS since at least 2006-2007. In 2005 they still had a shitload of documentaries but you could tell they were going for more reality programming. Way longer than 7-8 years. More like 13.
Right. I used to love learning about history & could care less about some goofy truck drivers or people selling crap to scam artist dealers. History use to be a good channel. Now it's just another shitty reality TV channel.

Confirmed that in the south this is more common then other places in America. Actually selling illegal meat, burning anyone with cigarettes, or just bar fights happen all day everyday. You only hear about it if the person who was attacked knew the attacker had money or is famous.

They don't lose focus. MTV is profitable with more programming than the same music videos over and over all day. Same as these other channels. They just run out of the ideas that made them profitable and have to start doing other things to keep people watching.
The reason why MTV really stopped playing music videos is because it really doesn't make much sense to play music videos anymore when people can literally watch all the music videos they want for free on this very website. Long gone are the days when you would have to hope that your favorite band will get played and you see that music video. If anything change MTV's stands it would have to be the internet.
@@badman3000 I'm pretty sure they stopped doing it because it wasn't profitable to just have a channel that plays music videos all the time. They were cutting down on videos before the internet was even a thing. They had "The Box" too if anyone remembers. It was a TV station that you had to call in and request music to be played and pay for it. It didn't last. Much Music came after MTV too.
Yes quite fake, I've been driving a truck in Norway for 12 years, while my home is further north in the sub-arctic - yes including ice roads - the reality is unbelievably different from what been shown. And don't get me started on stupid alien stuf.

Old animal planet was the shet i loved watching it as a kid. For a small while they played the old "Big Cat Diary"(One of my faves from the 90's) really early in some mornings in like 2017/2018 not sure if they still do though.
I can't say if I watched Animal Planet in it's prime, but I remember when I was younger they used to have a show called Meerkat manor. That show was my favorite I low key miss it
Personally, I now understand why I stopped watching The History Channel: There are just no interesting programs to watch and learn and I am very disappointed. I guess I have to settle for reading history books instead.

I am so glad somebody did this. I was so excited when the history channel debuted. My hopes took a nose dive when I saw that they hired spurious experts and made things up out of whole cloth. I am so sick of fake documentaries masquerading as history. Civil War gold no one will find, World War 2 gold, similarly Oak Island and Sasquatch and hunts for Hitler. I really applaud you for taking this stand. I have been telling everyone I know for years that their version of History is as fictional as Through the Looking Glass. And yes, I know, somebody wrote a book about that too. My advice? Read several books on any subject written by credible experts before believing anything you see on the History Channel.
"Back when facts had meaning..." This is so true in all aspects of our reality now. I never thought anyone would have to argue the finer points of what makes a fact an actual fact. Truly difficult to fathom.
Yes the real history documentaries on WW2, Ancient Egypt and other Ancient civilizations AND Drain the Oceans are always great. Leonard Nemoy. did an awesome job narrating the ones he did and William Shatner does a really good job also.
The show I loved most was "haunted history". They didn't try to prove a sighting by showing you "real" footage. They showed interviews with people who saw them and did a reconstruction of the event which was clearly just that. They gave history of the locations or the ghost in question with facts. They didn't push nothing in your face. Then the ghost hunting shows popped up with the "Blair witch" style documentary: "oh it's spooky here. Hey! Something just moved! Oh no! The ghost is angry!" Cue the shaking cameras and nervous glances and you see and hear nothing as a viewer. Next they often zoom in on something that could be flim grain, a few specks of dust in the air (or anything really) as an "orb". It's a shame because they once had excellent programming.
Two of the biggest crooks ever pays an old man $25 for an item, turns around, sells it for $200 while laughing or snickering, and then the big emotional thank you and hugs to the old people after they load up, especially the fat little crook , just like the pawn shop appraised publicly for $3000 then offers him$500, claiming he has to clean it up and the very laboriously put it on the shelf, damn get real people!!

a local reporter went looking for them early in the show. found them in a subdivision 1/2 hour from a pizza restaurant. the scene where you heard gunshots and they said there being chased off of their land, that was a neighbor shooting fireworks at a crew helicopter. he found a helicopter flying close to his house annoying. bring back the good old days of tv when they showed you people shipwrecked on an island with a guy named Gilligan, and didn't lie to you and claim they were real people on a real island.

I liked history channel when it first aired.They had top notch documentaries and shows that was about actual history .I don't know what happened along the way but it's not what it use to be.

I really do miss the old History channel. When I was in my teens a bit over a decade ago, the History channel used to be my go to, it's what jump started my love of history and geography. Unfortunately, basically none of that remains.
This just proves people are more interested in fantasy over reality or else the History channel would revert to the way they where when the show first started.

I really wouldn't even consider that a "scandal". Now if he got drunk, ran over some kids, and then screamed at the local news camera about how everything on the show was faked as hell when it came to rare finds....THAT would be a scandal. Not some poor guy getting a DUI.
