The other week it was my annual 'Garbage Run', which is really for anyone on any bike to ride Land's End to John o'Groats. For me it's always evidence that you can have a great adventure on any bike in your own county.
You can tour on any bike. My two touring bikes are my Enfield 350 classic, just back from the riding the length of France and my 125 Super Cub which is used mainly in the UK but is off to the Alps for my “in the footsteps of Hannibal tour next year”. Looks like a great bunch and a good mix of bikes.
The sizes, style and variety of bikes proves the complete nonsense of the purely marketing term for the gullible..... "Adventure Bike".🙊 It's the nut holding the handlebars that makes any bikes/scooters Adventure Bikes.👌
Nathan's adventures attract a low key bunch of bikers from all walks of life on every style of bike. I don't love camping, but the campsite fooling around, chatter and 'bon ami' is a highly addictive and enjoyable part of the gig.
Enjoyed that Nathan cheers, fascinating to see such a range of very different bikes..ps, how on Earth did you remember everyone’s names?..impressive ha ha! 😂👏🏼
1st week of April I did it the other way round….. John o Groats to Land End…. in three days, on a Himalayan 411. No motorways. It was the perfect bike for the job. Ps. Average 85 miles to the gallon. Winner 😊
I've toured on a CB 125T, an FE350, a 701, aTiger 900, a 1290 SA, various GSs, a 1996 CBR 600, a 1988 Kwak GT 750 and more bikes than I can remember. The bike really isn't important. It's the journey. Tear arsing about on a 160bhp KTM was not memorable. Bimbling along at my son's pace on his L plated MT125 with me on my 701 around the NC500 was magical. Smashing across France on a big bike was unremarkable.
Considering John Storey rode his BSA D1 Bantam 300,000 mile all over the uk and Europe I would say people need to stop worrying about the bike and just ride!
You do seem to attract us pensioners on your trips. I'm taking my son to the lightweight adventurers festival in a couple of weeks so if he gets on okay he can halve your average age next trip!
Great walk around, and diverse choice of bikes. I did notice the amount of gel (comfort) seats added, which brings me to my main gripe with modern bikes, they aren’t fit for purpose out of the crate…..but the manufacturers will happily sell you a “comfort” seat from their accessories brochure. 🙄. Great bunch of people too, no ego warriors 👏.
I tour on my Honda Rebel 500. Great low seat height for me! I can load up with luggage, no problem! 70mph cruise on the motorway and handles A/B roads well. No fancy pants electronics to go wrong and nice and nippy. You really don't need a huge tourer GS type at all. I live in the North West and have travelled to Cornwall, Devon, Wales, Scotland, East Anglia, Cotswolds, and heading to North East in a couple of months.😊
Great mini review on multiple bikes, Nathan! I am absolutely amazed that individuals have the ability to sleep on the ground and not cots. Strong bunch of individuals! Seems to me one would be smelling Ben- Gay back creme moreso than the earthy smells of Laughlin and Boulder city. 🤪 Be Safe!
It's not about the bike - it's about the mindset - I'm a 'Nova 125 and Voge 300R man - but for me the F650 would be hard to beat on this trip (bearing in mind the return journey) Nice work Nathan
Yes all on same tour. Self guided, small groups. I feed them in a morning with a bacon sandwich, and on this one was driving the back up van in case of break down. Then group meal on the evening. People arrive over a two hour or so period. 200 miles a day. Some dawdle
Fantastic enigma of bikes. I put 77 k on an innova. Rode 365 and. Was still in good condition apart from new exhaust, was collected in a peugeot estate😂mine did 130 mpg commuting. Even had a rare yamaha townmate T80cc and was shaft drive - true
That is what it looks like to me! The Scram with the new 452cc. The problem is that the public did not accept the new Himalayan with quite the same enthusiasm as the 411! Maybe Enfield got a little to aggressive trying to put out so many models in a short time frame. ( I read 28 models over 4 years) The competition with the likes of the CF MT450 has not helped.
Glad John on the innova got there gutted for him last year. C90 all day long for me 😎😎 however if I had taken my GS I would have been home 5 days earlier 😭😭 horses to courses indeed 🫶
