In a conversation with my friends we found out that most of us our first experiences were not overtly consensual. And in those blurred lines were young girls who had never planned to be in those positions in the first place. Leading from Georgie's story, I think its important for ManTalk Ke as the male thought leaders of our time to address this question of non-consensual sex as men, especially first time sex or drunk sex. And to put tyre to the road on what vulnerability REALLY looks like.

My mum was in the HIV space and she made it her mission to educate us and all her friends/families children. First time she intentionally had the bird and the bees conversation with us was after church. She bundled all my "cousins" to our house and we watched some of the tapes she used to educate communities on HIV. Then after we had a conversation. As time went on she incorporated a session in the teens and youth sessions in church especially during the holidays. When we got older (campus) she would give my male friends/ neighbour's condoms and make sure they knew her door was open to have a conversation and /or if they needed a restock. Great job with this episode!!!

And yes yes yes women are supposed to be chosen. We are chosen! That’s the normal way. We only get to choose after we’ve been chosen. We don’t get to choose first and we shouldn’t really. A man will choose you as a woman and then you decide whether you’ll accept him that’s where women get to choose.

This conversation had so many gems! Not just sexual performance, interests in relationships, how relationships have evolved, intimacy versus intercourse, financial situations for both men and women. I loved this! I am so curious do men become more attracted to women who have higher financial status as they get older? My experience has been so different, I have heard men want to feel needed and for us independent women( financially) I find there’s a struggle to signify that need. Simply because we can do/provide for ourselves and do so often.

The answer is in the question. Men are conditioned to provide and protect and women want to feel secure in the relationship. Jules alluded to this when she spoke about the pregnancy and postpartum period. So no, men would not ordinarily put themselves in a situation where they are the underdog.

My favorite people in one set. I love you guys so much. 💙 💙 💙 Now, men need to understand that sex is something you do with a woman. Not to a woman... That's where the problem begins... Also, not all people love sex. When we understand this, we shall explore other forms of intimacy in our romantic relationships... Women have been shamed for having sex for so long. It's like we are not supposed to have or want sex... Im happy for such conversations. They are opening doors to sexual freedom and safe sex.

This is such a crucial conversation. There really are no condom ads like there used to be as Lornzie pointed out. It feels like the concern amongst Gen Z is only pregnancy because most of them don't want kids, and even so they are more open to abortion than previous generations. So there's a lot of recklessness that needs to be addressed.

My namesake, its more liberating when one abstains from sexual engagements. There is no need to carry condoms with you. I know we are in a world we feel more woke, educated, exposed, moneyed, travelled etc but let your dignity as a woman not change with the world's patterns.

This has been very insightful and eye-opening. When I was 14, my mom had "the talk" with me. I wanted the earth to open and swallow me then, but now I'm more than glad she did. She told me I could always go to her if anything happened, like if someone took advantage of me or I got carried away. Her open-mindedness is something I hope to emulate with my children. Knowing I had her backing helped me abstain and stay out of potentially dangerous situations.

Great conversation. I believe it should be a mandatory course taught in schools...I live in the States, and here we were taught in 11th grade which is equivalent to form 3. This was about over 16yrs ago when I was in high school. Although, I believe they have changed the curriculum and begin touching on the subject a little sooner now, I believe 7 or 8th grade as kids have begun to be curious early. (It might not be as deep in depth as they do in 11th grade) I worked with children as a swim coach and the stories I would hear were bonkers! I mean we are talking 11- 16yrs of age. The Ministry of Education has a responsibility to educate and parents need to follow up and have the conversations early. I'm a Mom of Two both boy and girl and I promise myself to make sure I have these conversations with them. (My parents didn't) I was just told "don't get pregnant and don't get AIDS!" I am with shikii I may not know how, but I'll make sure to find out how. I learnt soo much from Ivy and Shikii's episode with the child psychologist... I would request that they continue with the Issamotherhood platform and continue with that informative content. Oh how I miss it. I think that's what it was called.

Amazing conversation. We have youth friendly facilities funded by local and international donors that educate and provide SRHR ( sexual reproductive health & rights) and we have young people who are champions of this. I’m one of them. At county level we have tried to develop policies on the same . The only challenge is that this is not allowed in schools . We use the youth friendly spaces , inter-generational baraza and youth dialogues . The main challenge is also funding and sustainability

Lovely. I’m also a sexual and reproductive health rights advocate. The situation is exactly as you pinned it down. When it comes to schools and why they don’t allow educators is that unfortunately there has not been a structured source therefore there’s also a lot of people that can easily misinform children and give personal opinions rather than facts... I think the creation of a decent sex education structure with a uniform syllabus is badly needed. In the meantime let’s continue the work in the spaces that we can 😊

The schools I attended invited sexual educators back then. The focus was mostly on HIV/AIDS, but there was general reproductive health too. So glad I learnt so much at a tender age(I’m talking 10 yrs old onwards). However, I wish my parents were not shy discussing it, they bought us books instead and had that ‘don’t get pregnant’ talk. Today, I feel empowered to have those discussions with my daughters. I have learnt a lot from Mantalk, Over twenty five and Georgie. Keep up the good work. Durex, increase their budget so they can have more outreach and sessions on this.

Very interesting talk. Although it is the worldly norm to have sex outside of marriage it is morally wrong just as we all agree a lack of integrity is morally wrong so is sex outside marriage. It falls in that big basket of immoral acts. Casual sex and unintentional dating is a mindset we must distance ourselves from. I understand the western world is a prosperous world in many aspects but not all that glitters is gold. Not all that is embedded in their culture and world view is worth embracing. We must be wise with what we practice and so confidently and passionately champion for. Yes you can look up to the western world and seek inspiration and better ways from them, for they are prosperous in many ways but only take and do that which is wise.

And part of this shift is due to the breakdown of the family unit. The couple should be virgins before marriage yet here we are.

This just shows how schools need to have a comprehensive sexuality based education curriculum instead of the basic life skills training that is there. I wonder if the government will wake up because the data is alarming and we are in a crisis.
