It's alive! Van Helsing's very own take on this classic monster's origin story. Frankenstein's Monster is bought to life, and after his creator is killed by Count Dracula, he breaks free and makes his way to the now iconic burning windmill.
From Van Helsing (2004): Van Helsing, a legendary monster hunter, is sent to Transylvania in order to prevent Count Dracula, a terrorising being, from realising his evil motives.

“I would kill myself before I aided in such a task” “Feel free, Victor. I don’t actually need you anymore” That’s honestly such a perfect line. So curt and ambivalent, there is no drama in his delivery, just a statement of fact. He’s outliving his usefulness now that the creature is built.
@catreecemacleod7556
@catreecemacleod7556 6 месяцев назад
Yep, I came here specifically to grab the clip of: "I could never allow him to be used for such evil..." "I could." Only a few seconds later than the feel free line, but same kind of delivery. Dracula truly is an evil monster and he sees absolutely nothing wrong with it. No pity, no remorse, he's an uncaring, heartless abomination and he's totally okay with that because he doesn't have the ability to have a conscience or feel bad about it. They honestly did a surprisingly good job of making him come across as truly awful, but he's not really malicious in the sense of wanting to harm others, he just has his personal goals is all and if they happen to harm others, well that's just too bad, their problem, not his. It actually makes him a strangely well-written villain, because it requires the constant reinforcement of the idea that he doesn't hurt anyone for personal pleasure, it's always to serve some other goal, and even the townspeople realized that and used it as a defense. Yeah, sure, one or two people may go missing every few months, but that's actually a fairly slow attrition rate compared to dealing with armies and wars, and the vampires make it so no army wants to go anywhere near there, so they actually kind of view it as a good thing.

@@zcgamerandreacts2762 it’s actually a fun twist from the book. In the novel Frankenstein adores his creation right up to its animation, seeing it as a perfect being, but after it takes its first breath his perspective shifts and he views it superficially as an abominable wretch. Of course the irony of that being that Victor’s monster was more human than himself. Instead of that this movie portrays victor as legitimately caring. I can only assume the monster from this portrayal is just as intelligent as in Mary Shelly’s original novel, and in the book the creature begins to speak fluently only about a 9 months into his life, if that rate of understanding remains relatively constant the creature could have been one of the most intelligent beings to ever live. Fun to think abt.

I believe this movie was supposed to be the first in a series of monster films following Van Helsing. However, due to the negative reviews and poor box office the film series was canceled. Imagine the potential if they just made a cinematic universe in the style of this movie. Things like Victor making a deal with the Mummy to fight Dracula in return for resurrecting his dead lover, or Dr Jekyll trying to kidnap the Frankenstein Monster in order to replicate Victor's work, leading to Hyde vs the Monster. The Wolfman constantly being used as a pawn by both sides, while he just wants his curse to be cured so he can go home. There is so much untapped potential for movies! But instead we get Tom Cruise teaming up with Shield to fight an undead horde of cgi goons in a modern city. Thanks, Hollywood.....

@tokutickler
@tokutickler 4 года назад
@Philip D'Alleva Yeah, Van Helsing would be a key player, introduced in the Dracula movie. His mission is to protect the innocent, and destroy all monsters. Therefor he's at odds with Larry Talbot, who is cursed to be the wolfman. Larry's watched over by the fortuneteller, Maleva, who tells him to seek out Doctor Frankenstein, who may be able to cure him. Frankenstein is name dropped in the Dracula movie as one of Dracula's investments other than carfax abbey. After the mob attacks, he is constantly on the run, changing his name and wearing disguises. His loyalties lie with Dracula at first, due to his funding being provided by Dracula, but he later switches sides. I think Igor should be a scheming, immortal man like his original appearance, rather than the hunchback servant (who was named Fritz in the original). Igor has his own plans that go against Dracula, Van Helsing, and Larry. A 4 way battle of wits ensues, full of deals, betrayals, and heartbreak.
