Thank you for posting this interesting interview with Ras Shorty I. It was great to hear about the birth of the soca artform and the Indrani track... 'The Elder Statesman of Soca'

Good stuff! Interesting how Indrani was recorded. Based on the fact that the Calypso musicians were unwilling to work together with the East Indian musicians, Shorty was clever enough to make use of new overdubbing technology and decided to record both sets of musicians on separate days overdubbing the East Indian musicians over the calypso musicians. This shows just how determined Shorty was to do his musical fusion experiments of both cultures and was indeed seeking to bring both cultures together. It also shows that Shorty was the mastermind behind the birth of soca and not Ed Watson or anyone else who may have been involved in those early soca recordings and who may have continued to develop and evolve soca music after Shorty invented it and it took off.
