I saw this this tour in Ireland and the bassist said "one day this can all be yours." while pointing at a picture of a giant pizza on the screen behind the drums. Great times.
I like to think nothing could ever shake my love for the Melvins and my intense year-after-year lust for their live presence in my city, but it definitely helps that my first show was during this time. For a band with virtually meaningless lyrics and constantly self-cannibalizing song structures and ideas, something REALLY fucking resonated with this line-up and my eighteen-year-old brain.
I probably revisit this video once a month for the last 12 years, now. That bass tone, OMG. Now, less than a month from seeing The Melvins live for the first time, I can't wait to be on the front row, heandbanging like those lucky bastards out there.
I saw this line up in Manchester uk a few years ago, fucking perfect, also saw the Steve McDonald version as well, again, fucking perfect, sublime live band :)
I'm not a cunt because i was there, this is filmed in a great club called De Kreun, in Kortrijk, Belgium. Check 4x4music.eu for more gigs that have been filmed there, like Shrinebuilder!
I like only one song Slayer - "Wicked"/ sounds too match like Melvins. Other too fast and trashmetal, like early Ministry/ need more slow bass and distortion/
I never got into their albums in the early/mid 90's. Lived above a metal/rock club. Made a band. Opened for our heroes, see our heroes with our friends band opening. Saw some unreal shows, going back to Husker Du, Black Flag days. And met many cool people/bands, BUT NEVER GOT TO SEE THE MELVINS LIVE! What a difference that might have made! Woulda loved to see them! They were touring with Nirvana for awhile. If on club tour, I would have been blessed, surely. Love to hear some old, live stuff! If seen em like this, I would have gotten it! And learned much. We were a sloppy Melvins, to give you a hint. And sloppy is not the Melvins! Tight as it gets! Now I get it! They don't even need 3 chords, 2 is fine, and tighter, more ferocious and heavier than any speed/death metal! I use to hear that they played so slow, they'd empty the club! Always a bands band. Like Soundgarden. Who? But every band knew! Same with the Melvins. Every line up I've seen live on RU-vid has been great! I'll have to look for some older, live stuff! Any recommendations?
@martin7viola they do prefer smaller places. Buzz has said in an interview htat he doesnt think music should be heard in places with larger than 500 capacity.
After/while hearing this i went looking to buy but can`t seem to find under " Melvins live in Belgium" and one website said that it hasn`t been released yet....Where can i buy a copy of this????
Kickass music! Probably, as most times, unfortunately, the venue turns itself into a sauna, when the crowd is tight. But honestly, what made me smile a bit, is the obviously non-balanced "hard work" to play, perform this music, I mean THIS song live..Obviously the drummer is sweating his ass off beating the shit out of that box, while the other band members seem to have quite a chill time ;)
Whole show, high quality, available? I'm subscribed, but haven't checked all your stuff. Was this ever released in high quality sound? Whole show? Really excellent! Great! Love HQ versions!
Like Jerry Garcia in The Dead. 1st one off stage before drums/space section! And if you get that, you're very musically aware! Joke, but yeah, Jerry always left at that time of the 2nd set! Good one! Lol!
To copy The Grateful Dead and get that fan base following them. Similar musical styles. Tone, clean, much interaction and improvising jams! Grateful Dead wanna be band. Does that make sense? It shouldn't! 2 heads are better than one. 8 limbs are better than 4. But like The Dead, drummers aren't mirroring each other, but adding to, like one drummer, 8 limbs. Melvins do this as well. Complementing each other, building each other up! Very well done, and way more complex/complicated than most any band seen with 2 drummers, as part of the act, playing the same thing. If one screws up, the others there playing the same simple beat. Very smart band! Who know exactly what they're doing, at all times. And make it look easy! Heaviest, tightest, and way more brutal than any Death Metal!
