It was warm day in Tallahassee, Florida when Hoyt Birge and Peter Tournay stepped into a house for a simple drug deal. They had no idea that they were walking into an ambush, one that would leave Hoyt dead on the floor and Tournay praying for his life just minutes later.
Thank you ‪@MentourLawyer‬ for all the footage.

Same story, but the struggle will always be real for me, I've even been in rooms with guns drawn, & it's sad that the seriousness sometimes doesn't kick in, I'm also grateful nothing ever came to seeing something so horrific in my life, like what happened here, as many might think, even addicts have family & are loved, & everyday life gets a Lil easier as it goes, when u get away from that world, & for me, it's been 7 yrs. I've always worked hard in Healthcare, but my understanding of addiction now will never make me fully judge someone... When ur in that life, & something happens like this, in the end, u have a choice to either have the strength to understand the consequences or keep blaming everyone else. Paige's whinny tone was showing she was just looking out for herself. To lure someone in, like I said, drug use sometimes is a blur, but once it all gets real, we all snap & most have a reality ck. It sounds like her reality ck was protecting herself, u always know when someone's lying when they remember step by step, their day, until the adrenaline kicks in, & when u have 7 ppl committing a crime, there's no way all of a sudden ur the only angel in the room. Pete... your nickname is now lost, hopefully like your past... kick on kickin!

Yes it’s very hard to stop, especially if you don’t use anything to stop with like Methadone, Subs, Subutex Etc. How old were you when you started and then stopped, if you don’t mind me asking? & congratulations 🎉 on 18 year’s 👏🏼🙏🏼❣️
@mrbillcollector

@@mavisjones9391 subs or methadone makes it 10x worse, because in time that becomes an addiction, you have to kick too. I had some withdrawal symptoms for a couple months, while getting off of subs, and I never took more than a centimeter pinch off of a sublingual film....and I got clean from smoking straight fentanyl after 2 years, straight, at 17 years old, and the withdrawals from that only lasted a week. When the subs took me numerous months.

@Paul X "Heartiest congratulations my dear (man)!" to misquote Dr. Zachary Smith, it's always uplifting & encouraging to know of people who have gained the victory over ruinous addiction. Please to Keep On Rolling upward & onward. I count my blessings anew that such has never chained me - I do though still occasionally partake, as I have managed for 35 years! - & which I have tried to impart to others I've met with tales of woe i.e. the lying/cheating/stealing sort that are only a drag on their families. Sadly around these parts there already had been an entrenched criminal aspect to those kind which my attempts at enlightenment & guidance - one had only to see how I maintain myself & place (rent/bills) & critters (gotta keep those & the food supplies robust 1st & foremost!) to see how a person can have the inner strength to not go down that drain. It never has been something I had slipped down into & had to climb back out of - it simply never has dragged me down, all gratitude to the inner will from both parental units, joint American Indian ancestry included. 😇 But I must be as rare as a passenger pigeon in that regard, in that closeknit hood I stayed in for 6 years, it turned out that corner house had a reputation 3x its size, which all around were able to clearly see the difference after I moved in, which that it did NOT again become a drug den and instead, from my wrestling with its yard on all sides, was told "This house ain't looked that good in *15* years!" 🥳 Ain't no drug addict going to do any of that, much less everything else - & keep the family from knowing ANYthing about that aspect for near 30 years. 👍 🌟 Them reefers is 1 thing but The Hard Concrete is another matter altogether, & I ain't now lying comfortable in this (quieter) new place of 14 months, power/water running & cabinets/icebox filled, damn dog on post on the porch with no bones showing, "on a wing & a prayer!" 📿 In some old docu where a guy was asked how long it took for him to get hooked & he actually said "My 1st hit," 😳 🙄 I snorted derisively at such awful weakness. "Not me!" But all I can do is to maintain myself as I already long have been, & keep trying to help others do the same. However, as all who have struggled or know someone who has/is, they have to 1st want to help *themselves* - & ooh how hard that is, this former neighbor with 2 nephews leeching her money for their fix had actually managed to get both of them sorry shitheads into Ree-Hab more than once, but while I kept my prediction to myself & said only encouraging things to her, I knew that as soon as they got back they'd get right back to doing what they do. And so they have, every time. "Sad sad sad." Well best wishes to you & a prayer of hope for the same strength to both fight & win the battle against the horrors of addiction - to whatever is the problem. My daddy was a (sadly mean) drunk for just over *60* damn years, to literally the bitter end, yet me & my non-indulging sisters (other than reefer, which it's been near 50 years since they had any) did not become no such statistic as "the children of addicts will likely be such themselves," no thank you I'm sure! May as many as possible who have both viewed this Florida Man spectacle & are in the fight to regain themselves eventually succeed - "the sooner the quicker!" 👍💙

Yea he definitely could have been off trying to score and get well. He could have not “snitched”. But he was there telling them what happened and that’s what lead to the swift and immediate arrests of the culprits. I think so too. It never hurts to show even a tiny bit of kindness. Drug addicts still have feelings. Losing your very best friend in such a tragic way RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU has got to be such a fear inducing and scary situation. He didn’t have to go out of his way to be “nice” but a kind gesture or an “I’m sorry that happened” sure wouldn’t have hurt. This man was a drug addict but he was still a human being with REAL human emotions

I loved seeing the “present time” update on Pete. It made me very happy. I was wondering throughout watching his interview in the police station what he was doing now, if he was alive or was maybe dead from an overdose, & if he’d made it to 2023 whether or not he would be clean. Very awesome to see him turn his life around. I’ve been a recovering addict since August 5, 2005 & it’ll be 18 years come August 2023. It never gets old. YOU ARE WORTH IT & YOUR LIFE IS ALWAYS WORTH FIGHTING FOR! If you’re struggling with addiction please don’t ever give up! Remember relapse is a part of recovery sometimes & recovery is progress not necessarily perfection until you progress over time. Everyone’s journey is different❤
@kenkaniff6142
@kenkaniff6142 19 дней назад
2005 for me as well. It was pain pills. Suboxone was my way out. But I tell people you have to want to do it. I was dead set on getting off them. Haven’t since, not even so much as a thought about it. Since then I’ve had a couple minor surgeries and I’m like nope. No meds, I’m good. I’ll deal with the pain. Thinking only way I’ll go back on those is if I’m terminally ill and have no choice. All from back pain playing football and a surfing accident, wisdom teeth and a broken ankle. That’s as easy as it starts. Here’s a script for vicodin which ended up all the way to 80mg oxycontin and fentanyl patches. The patches were too much, I tried but I just couldn’t take the jolts of the med getting in my system what felt like every half hour and couldn’t fall asleep. Odd I know, figure it would knock you out but it was just too heavy. Man, just to think about it disgusts me. There’s a place for pain meds, but not like I was taking them. Everyone’s journey is truly different. Whatever the journey, as long as we all end up at the same place, free of that stuff. WHOO what a ride. I don’t recommend it at all. Vicious circle of chasing. Screw that.

He hit rock bottom in such a different way than most drug addicts do. There are plenty of other drug related ways to hit rock bottom and almost die in that process, but this one hits harder because he was almost murdered. Pete deserves so much praise for turning his life around, and though some might say an addict is always subject to a relapse, even if he does he will always remember the day he almost died because of how intense it was. He truly seems grateful just to be alive now.

Doing drugs can sometimes seem like harmless fun when you are first starting out, but they ALWAYS catch up with you in the long run...I thank God every day for giving me the chance to sober up before it was too late...If you are struggling with addiction, do yourself a HUGE favor and get some help immediately...It's definitely out there but you have to trust the process.

I've never been personally addicted to drugs but this case touched my heart. My brother is a 10+ year opportunistic addict. EVERY recovering addict in these comments-- I'm so damn proud of you. I hope you're finding true peace. Although I have so much sympathy and compassion for hard drug addicts, it's so so so so hard to keep making excuses as I've watched it destroy my brothers life. Rest in peace Hoyt, you did not die without honor, addicted or not. Much love to everyone

I know exactly how you feel. Its equally painful for the partner or family member or friend when that person you care so much about goes through using & addiction. I can only wish you & your brother, and anybody using or not thats going through it, all my best wishes, hope & love. Its only love that is worth a damn, be it at arms length, love for themselves or others love to not give up on them completely, its love that keeps up the strength. However it can appear, I bet most all users don't want to be this way, dont sometimes feel shame, aren't embarrassed or even scared at times. In addiction it is less an intention but rather a compulsion. A million words cant encompass all the feelings & situations & everything else thats experienced by those affected by addiction. However they kick or relapse or maintain there is only one thing that honestly keeps us all in the fight. Love.

They beat him up and held us hostage for like 5 hours. Im pretty sure they were gonna kill him but we escaped. I was like Pete (wrong place wrong time). Very crazy to see this. Anyone I also have almost 2 years clean now (Heroin, Meth, and Fentanyl) So very relatable. Cool to show people humanizing these crime stories that don't get a lot of coverage because people don't care as much about drug addicts or percieve it as just part of the lifestyle. My heart hurts for Hoyte's loved ones. Losing someone so suddenly, and violently, leaves scars on family hearts. Also, way to go, Pete! Sounds like a case of Scared Straight gone right. I hope the young man keeps his head, stays strong against his demons, and shares all that love he has to give with his mom, and a hopefully supportive and understanding new group of friends and acquaintances. Too many addicts crawl, walk, or run headlong screaming into oblivion. Too many amazing souls lost without ever meeting the potential they were born with. To all reading this who have lost someone, I'm so very sorry. You are not alone. To all reading this who are currently using, I hope that you find your way out of the dark. Reach out, there are more folks willing to truly help you up than you may know. To all reading this who have won their battle with addiction, I am so proud of you!
