The Vicious Story Of Lisa Straub & Johnny Clarke

Beyond Evil

Today’s case examines the brutal double homicide of a young couple in a quiet suburban neighbourhood. The case was unusual, with a friend claiming to overhear the start of the attack over the phone. And as the investigation unfolded, it seemed many of those closest to the couple were unwilling to share what they knew with police. It would take nearly a year for investigators to sift through a web of lies and half-truths before an arrest could be made. Yet ten years later, questions remain. Do police really have their killer? And who else was involved? This is the disturbing case of Johnny Clarke and Lisa Straub.

I’m sorry, but I hope that dispatcher got fired after that. That’s an EMERGENCY line, not a regular degular call center. She talked to that woman like she was talking to an irrationally angry customer, yelling about a problem with her bill. I understand being jaded after working there for a while, but really?? The dispatcher spoke to me like I was the worlds biggest moron! I couldn't believe my ears. I finally said "ya know.. The 911 operator reminds me of a case here in Australia....a woman was hiding from 2 men and called for help. She swore at the emergency operator (obviously because she was terrified). The operator hung up on her and did not send help. The men found her and killed her. I understand it's a hard job but it's like they forget they are often dealing with people in the worst moments of their lives

It is a very difficult job that has a high suicide rate from what I understand, at least in America. Obviously what you're talking about is awful and I hope the person was, at least, fired and, at best, doing time in jail for helping her get murdered. However, people fussing at the 911 operator for being rude, etc is wrong, imo. They are trained to remain detached and calm. Them getting upset just leads to the caller getting more upset.

It's usually an entry level dispatcher position. If you don't have a passion for helping people or can't manage to be compassionate then you don't need to be a 911 operator. You can be the last person someone ever talks to. The least you can do is be comforting & have some kind of understanding. Same goes for people who teach, deal with children, doctors, nurses, police etc... If you have no desire to love people and be the best human you can be to others then don't enter these fields.

I was an after hours dispatcher for an answering service. I worked alone, on graveyard shift, handling 6 lines all by myself. I handled accounts for doctors, dentists, veterinarians, nursing homes, EVERY funeral home on my side of the state, as well as the removal technicians for the ME's office for any unatrended deaths. To say it could get hectic is an understatement. I was just 24yrs old at the time, a punk rock girl in a Dogpatch hick town, trying to be a good single mom, but my professional standard at work was impeccable. NOTHING could have made me speak to a caller the way that brain dead dispatcher did!! When you're the first contact between someone on the line and the HELP they need, you do not *ever* take an attitude with them, and you *NEVER* tell them to calm down! I had to take a call from a woman who's horse got hit by a jeep. She was screaming incoherently, and I couldn't understand her at all. I maintained a low, clear, calm tone of voice, and asked her to slowly spell the name of the road they were on. She called me a moron, every name in the book (she was SO distraught) but I wasn't about to take it personally. I got her information out, and stayed on the line with her until the police came, even though I didn't have to. I had to keep putting her on hold to answer other calls, including one to the rendering truck thatvwas going to have to pick up her dead horse, it was so sad. I volunteered for the Suicide Prevention Hotline, maybe that training helped?

@@widowrumstrypze9705 & I applaud you for that. Being aware enough NOT to take it personal. Sometimes people are in a panic & a state of shock & have no clue of how they're behaving. & in a field like that you have to understand that this person is distraught, like you were aware. We need people like you, who understand. I consider myself a pretty grounded and emotionally stable guy but at the same time I've never had to call 911 to report a dying relative or any kind of shocking event of that nature. I'm a human though & I know how your emotions can completely overtake you. Im glad you responded because it was an inspiration.. So thank you.

The girl Alex is involved and was actually there. When the friend was on the phone with Johnny and heard him say 3 times " Bro, what are you doing" he was saying it to Alex that was at the front door trying to push it open. Then, when Johnny says " Who the hell are you" is when the killer, the guy that Alex brought there to rob and kill them, came out from behind her. Then, the killer pointed a gun at Johnny and tied them both up. Putting the bags on their heads and wrapping duct tape around their necks was absolutely VICIOUS. This was someone that absolutely HATED these two people. Alex is bat shit crazy and you can tell by her unusual laughing like a damn psychopath. She has absolutely no sadness or concern for these two people. The laughing is absolutely CHILLING. She did it for drugs and money. She didn't take the Iraqi money, because it couldn't be spent without drawing attention. There is also a big problem with that cigarette butt that was planted at the scene. That cigarette was put out in an ashtray. If they had been standing there smoking it and were done, if they threw it there on the ground they would have either stepped on it to put it out which would have crushed the butt, or if they dropped it still lit it would have burned more and also left a burn mark on the ground. That cigarette butt was 100% planted and probably planted by Alex. Just look at the butt. It is as though someone took it from an ashtray and tossed it right there. The guy in jail is the killer as he knew about the forgien currency. Also, he may have already been sentenced and his goal was to then protect the girl he liked... Alex.

Sitting here watching this with my cousin who is a local Sheriff's Deputy & he made an excellent point. If we were required to obtain insurance you would see a lot less incidents of police negligence, brutality & over reach in cases. Think about it, doctors need malpractice insurance, your employer need workman's compensation insurance, drivers need auto insurance etc. And what do these mandatory insurances do? They keep you check. They force personal accountability for your actions & their direct effect on others. As officers we don't have that, not individually. If we f*ck up it typically doesn't come out of our pocket so as the old saying goes 'It's no skin off our nose'. What do we get? Paid leave. Now you tell me how accountable anyone is going to be for their own actions if the result of screwing up is a paid vacation. We get time to actually GO on vacation or do Jack sh*t. If those cops had insurance that would hold them accountable how do you think those 1st 2 911 calls would've been answered?"

You have to take into consideration all the calls police get that turn out to be nothing. You can't break down someone's door just because a loved one isn't answering their call or because the car is in the driveway and they aren't answering the door. That would be invasion of privacy. If police do not see signs of a break in or that someone is in immediate danger they can't just break into someone's house. I worked in property management for years and when police would show up to do a wellness check at the request of a family member we were not allowed to let them into the property without cause or permission by a lease holder. Almost every wellness call I had resulted in the person being ok, they just didn't respond, for whatever reason to the family member trying to contact them.

The dad wasn't doing the cops job. You do realize that police cannot legally break into peoples homes just because they are asked too, right? @@jomontanee My claim doesn't match the real crime scene? 5:11 and I quote, "Before officers could arrive, Mr Clarke kicked in the front door." Have another piece of evidence to back up my "claim". 4:35 During the 911 call the mother states several times that she peeked through the window and saw them tied up in the basement and yet they were found to be in the kitchen on the first floor. Her stating they are in the basement once could be overlooked due to the situation, but several times? 4:25 They then change the story to Dad lifting the Mom's cousin up to peer through a slat in the windows. So yes, I believe that since the cops couldn't legally enter the home they told the family to do it if they really believed something bad had happened and deal with the consequences if nothing had happened.
