This intro reminds me of King Wheel. Ironic that this time, the lunatic speaking of tentacles is actually the bait and not the switch. It's like poetry, only three games and several years apart.
I like to imagine that Maliketh would scare the shit out of all the demigods whenever he was around them. That man (wolf?) soloed an entire army of godslaying cultists and stole the ability to kill gods from their queen, who he also probably killed in battle. Having Maliketh around must have made the demigods uneasy in his presence despite being on the same side.
I one of his item descriptions, it says that in the old language, his name directly translates to "Death To The Demigods" because of his actions during the shattering.
Melina is the Gloam-eyed Queen. That's why she has you deliver death unto the demigods, why her hair turns black+eye opens, and why she promises to deliver YOU Destined Death in the Frenzy Flame ending.
@@Scaevola9449 Melina is just a magical girl anime protagonist that decides to do something at the end. Death queen is not present in the game at this time.
Discovering him as a new player looking things up after my first playthrough was so disorienting - like if his gameplay didn’t expose him as a genuinely incredible player and well-informed, I’d have thought he was just a goofy small content creator talking out his ass. Love this man now.
This build is like a slight return of the old Black Flame Horror Dark build, and reminds me another vid of when you talked about how black flame spells in DS3 did a lot of stamina damage. I think the build in the latter vid I mentioned was something like Iron Tarkus armor pieces with the Onyx Blade and black serpent/black flame to pop open shields.
that kill where you burned the host who was falling alongside the elevator you were both on before they fell out of it with black flame tornado as the elevator was descending alongside them falling helplessly was anime as fuck
You have the colors backwards, but otherwise mostly spot on with the lore. Destined Death (red) was around first and was the rune of the Gloam Eyed Queen until it was sealed SOLELY within Maliketh (with the one exception of Black Knives). After the GEQ is killed, the flame's true power, Destined Death, was sealed away, robbing it of its color and amazing DOT.
That doesn't make any sense, though. Because it still exists, and is powerful, and there's nothing to point to it being red in the past. There is also no hard evidence to say the Rune of Death was the rune of GEQ. Sealing the Rune away from the Elden Ring brought (technical) immortality to the Lands Between, making the black flame useless for killing Gods
@@115UndeadAnarchy115 I don't know what's lore gurus obsession with their waifu, The Gloam Eyed Queen. I'm too busy figuring out the connection between Miquella and st. Trina and if they are actually the same person.
Didn't Marika remove the rune of Death from the Elden Ring cause she didn't death in a fit of rebellion, Maliketh had it before it got stolen and then the Godhunt cropped up so Marika sent him to recover his rune shard and in the process slew the Gloam-Eyed Queen, but then Marika did something that left Maliketh stuck in Azula for a long while, then came the prelude to the Night of Black Knives, the rune gets damaged and a shard of Death was stolen, the Night happens and Maliketh gets to leave Azula, emerging as his 'base' form of Gurranq to hunt down the Deathroot springing up... damnit forgive me for the pun... and during that hunt the Shattering Wars happened, and Maliketh then proceeded to earn the name of Maliketh during said Wars, which as a result sent things into a stalemate for a while especially after word got out of Malenia vs Radahn and its aftermath, and then a few hundred-ish years later we get dropped onto the scene?
I don't know how the godslayer sword could be the GEQ since it explicitly states that the weapon was her sword which she wielded. I mean, magic gonna magic, but it's a big stretch to say that she was a sword and a person at the same time. Never mind the fact that the two instances of swords nee people we do know of for sure show a motif of a torso for a handle and godslayer doesn't have that. There's a nice image floating around of the godslayer with the rune of death housed inside its helices. I think that this is much more likely to have been the explanation for its shape. The sword is actually a sheathe for the rune.
Oh, man, Saint. I had an invasion last night where I invaded a host with two phantoms. One died to me, one died to those big guillotine blades. It was nice. This host then proceeded to get three Hunters in rapid succession, and then summoned two more dudes. I lost. I did not represent The Family super well. But I did get a couple dudes smacked by a big crab, so it was a fun time.
The way you feel abt the halberd/stitcher is how I feel abt using moonveil/DMGS/wing. If you want to run away from a 30vig melee build, I'm most definitely pulling out the annoying int weapons.
you might like the stitcher more if you use it's heavies and feints, and it synergizes with black flame since its a spell buff that stacks multiple times on multi hit attacks. its also good for running players because its a heavy thrusting sword so dont feel bad for hardswapping to it when someone runs
12:33 I agree. Switching just because you’re losing is pathetic. I don’t care about winning enough to ruin my own fun and my own build. And the sad part is that most players do switch or use underhanded tactics/game breaking bugs just cuz they need that shot of seratonin. Truly maidenless behaviour.
If there was a invasion system that incentivizes host to kill invaders to make a item that helps with that area boss or something that works in synergy with items like the shackles. So if you beat a invader bf the boss the time the shackle imprisoned the boss doubles. That would make people want to fight instead of always running to the boss.
18:23 That is an amazing fan theory. I double checked whether the handle/hilt(?) of the weapon resembled arms like Sacred Relic Sword or Fingerslayer Blade but nah. Still great headcannon material though.
It also can't be made of her, as that weapon was hers and then you'd get into a chicken and egg situation with that. Could still be that she used someone else to make that (or a TL error, which this game has seen).
@@qwormuli77 As with Fingerslayer Blade case, the weapon itself doesn't need to be exactly the people themselves who were killed but it might just be affected by the death of them bc FB clearly resembles Godwyn's fish-like form after death but it's not literally him. Godslayer is just a design choice though apparently. As for the Gloam Eyed Queen herself, I think Melina is still a likely candidate bc she doesn't have a body form which might have occurred after her defeat to Maliketh but it's too vague at this point.
I definitely watched intently while listening. Ive been using noble presence lately too and it’s fun. Like wrath of gold. I’ve always wanted to play a black flame build but some the spells don’t work as well. I kinda want to do a build similar to this for arena but with a variety of fire spells. I just leveled another character to 150 and I’m gonna try the erdtree seal with a variety of all spell types. I always end up using weapons with low stat requirements so that helps a lot in the melee aspect.
Holy shit, I was bongsmoker in that one invasion. I remember thinking this invader was tenacious as hell lol, makes total sense now. Ps I was just farming and got sent to hunt cuz I didn't turn the ring off
Saint you remember me how I felt so entertained while I watched Jblackmel videos on ds1. I followed your content since one month now. Don’t know why youtube never suggest me your content before… Just thanks for the good work you put on your build, and the way you talk about it.
Holy hell! Those Queen Black Flames! Thanks for that mid-rare steak! Loved the Ritual combos, too! Too bad about Scouring. See you next time, next time.
4:38 I feel like being able to multitask different forms of media consumption is a young people thing. As I've gotten older, I tend to consume more long-form, single topic media. But also yes, at least I could sort of pay attention to the lore and the gameplay.
I feel the same on my dragon communion cultist build. Most of the time I prefer to use my occult flamberge or occult uchigatana. But someone (9 times out of 10 it's a mage) starts doing nothing but light roll spamming? Got the bloody helice specifically for them. That or if I'm in just a full "screw this" mood then they get the Agheel's flame.
message to new invaders: if you had fun during the invasion and win, dont forget to bow to the host as theyre dying if you can, they appreciate manners and will continue playing in fun ways
@@calvinosaurus4514 having been in official soulsborne/elden ring discords I can never tell anymore. Some people are genuinely vitriolic over these games
Something that might add to the regen from the talismans when the host kills PvE.. Serpent God's Curved Sword, has the same HP regen effect on enemy death, stacks with talismans, and double stacked when duel wielded And then as i type this you mention the weapons 😂Gg as always pal
Nobels presence was a spell of the gods but claimed by the godskins in one of their hunts. So that might be why its not really considered one of their spells.
just want to say that i love how you just interject lore stuff. i feel like when i watch a lot of er pvp videos everybody only cared about mechanics and stuff and never cares about the actual game theyre playing
Toss a flame to your stitcher Oh, valley of pokey Oh, valley of salty Btw, while I was typing this comment I looked up to the still playing video and suddenly Saint was fighting Ciri. Spooky
you're a beautiful creature. I was so excited to see you post a video after watching the circle jerk about cheat engine "podcast" thing a bunch of elden ring youtubers did. Truly the best of us invaders.
On the topic of lore, I believe that Marika's obsession with death is not one of fear, but one of determination. I believe her end goal is to kill the Greater Will, or at least the Elden Beast. Why else would Hewg have been ordered to make a weapon that can kill a god? And she likely removes the Rune of Death to allow the Tarnished a chance at accumulating enough power to help achieve her goal, hence her sending them into the Badlands, not necessarily to avoid her own death. I believe this is the realization that Gideon comes to post-Maliketh, that Marika intends for the Tarnished to accumulate enough power to kill the Elden Beast. He cannot comprehend completing such a task and that is why he describes it as a "struggle for eternity", due to undeath. He doesn't realize that we have come with the Rune of Death.
Just finished my 168 cuz of you ty saint.. I think scouring black flame is good in the arenas but that's it my opinion I wish the godslayer would stay lit with black flames like the onyx
I do the exact same thing but invade at 94 to avoid 125. Overleveled phantoms can be more annoying but can invade up and down which I think increases the rate you’ll find organic invasions. So I can confirm, just like 168 you’ll completely avoid meta snipers at first step and boss doors.
Not only did I watch and listen, but I folded clothes whilst doing the previously stated! New to the channel🤗!🤗! Loving it. The Godskin Stitcher is fun if you put Blood Tax on it. This way you can also use the Godskin Swaddling cloth. Uses 2 more of the Godskin items... not sure if it fits the theme.
As an experiment I made one of those Family Guy/Subway Surfers/stim TikTok videos with footage of one of my invasions and mr. underscore riot, I just want to say for the record that the mere act of editing it gave me a headache that lasted three days. Also long videos like this always get me excited, to try RL 168, to try godslayer stuff, et cetera. Except yeah, agreed the godskin stitcher is like the dragon halberd in that it's really good but really boring.
13:04 "You probably think the black flame fireball is not good." Even the regular fireball is underrated. Not devasting like Take Thee, but fireball and by extension black flame fireball have some of the best free aim potential of any spell. Both simple, versatile and deceptively long ranged spells that don't cost a ton of FP.
With how much you have been enjoying Noble's Presence, is there really any point in resisting any longer, Saint? You'll wear the Godskin Noble's Robe, sooner or later... Heh.
I feel very confident saying that godslayer's greatsword is my favorite colossal sword in the game. I haven't used every one of the colossal swords but can any of them really beat the sheer style of the godslayer's plus that killer weapon art ? I don't really think they can.
I know this isnt a lore channel so i'll keep ot brief but you are very much right about the rune of death, we dont know how she got it but the Gloam Eyed Queen wielded the power of destined death, and Enia straight up says destined death is just another name of the rune of death. But the interesting part is that the black flames likely werent black at all by the time of the queen, we know they lost power when the rune was sealed away and now they cannot kill a god, i firmly believe they lost color too and were originally red, red is a color always associated with the rune of death and we have an example of another flame suffering the very same fate, the Ghostflame, deathbirds were part of the original cycle of death, but since Marika sealed death away their very nature distorted, in every depiction of them they are covered in feathers unlike they are now, their flames have a ghostly blue color, yet the Grave Violet description says it has the hue of ghostflame, but this flower is purle not blue... what do you get when you add red to blue? you get purple! I believe the same goes for the black and white flames of the godskins, they are the same Maliketh uses but lost their red death color when the rune got sealed, cutting out the power.
Saint I need more sensory stimulation, could you please add maybe a clip of someone playing with kinetic sand or a family guy clip to your next video please? would help me a lot
Yeh sure at higher levels people tend to use elemental damage more, but all melle weapons still do split physical/elemental damage (beside coded sword and Cypher pata) so black flame protection is still useful, if you're not fighting pure casters or faith light sabers that is...
Saint, one thing regarding Noble's Prescence... it is a trophy skill taken during the godhunt... the other Black Flame based skills are ones that are their own recreations of another ability, while Prescence is just a skill taken and given a minor burst of Black Flame to 'convert' it into a Godskin Skill... Edit: Also I may not like invaders... cause most are the Babybrats as I call them... the guys with the end game gear and 0 damage because they don't got the stats and are supported by an over leveled phantom... or at least most were... Haven't done actual PVP in a long time so it might be worth checking out, but unlikely that I will... however if I get invaded by anyone here, well I wish you luck as my flames shall hunger for your soul...
Do you know if there are any weapon into blackflame spell or vise versa sudo combos? I've been thinking about doing a melee caster hybrid for a while but I don't wanna just use catch flame and the other ordinary stuff.
Thought I'd ask here since I'm getting conflicting answers elsewhere: does Spirit Ash level affect arena matchmaking? As in, can +0 spirit ashes not matchup with +10 spirit ashes, etc?
I think "god slayers" are meant to take more literally than we do. I believe that the godslayers are actually after Gods and not "Demi"gods. Melina looks to be the dusk eyed queen in the second cutscene of the flame of frenzy ending. Her purpose is to burn down the erdtree which the black flame was supposed to do (there is a cut sentence when you unbind destined deaths after maliketh and it explains that black flames have consumed the erd tree. I think Marika originally had Melina be the one to take out the elden beast but since her defeat by maliketh and the sealing of her powers. The only way she could trigger the burning of the erdtree was to use herself
@@deepsoul8034 has to be reiterated. The context in which we fight the makes people think they're defending ranni's corpse, or serve the god serpent. Which I firmly believe we simply stumble upon them as they journey. Not sure what the apostle is doing in the windmill village though
@@Sunny-jk3pq Robe made by sewing together patches of smooth skin. Worn by the Godskin Apostles. The apostles, once said to serve Destined Death, are wielders of the god-slaying black flame. But after their defeat by Maliketh, the Black Blade, the source of their power was sealed away The Godskin Noble at Ranni tower is mostly likely attracted to the power of death coming from the cursed mark of Ranni dead body. What they are doing in whinmill… I invite you to speak to the white phantom next to the site of grace there, it’s very clear what they are doing. They kill and collect the skin of people. Also no, Apostles serve only the Gloam eye queen/ destined death, the one in volcano manner is allied to rykard due to shared common enemy but other than that, they are completely different faction
Whoa. Holy crap. I never thought of Marika directly employing/cooperating with Gloam Eyed Queen. It's seems slightly in conflict with Maliketh's history but since Marika isn't perfectly loyal to Maliketh anyway it is definitely an angle to consider.
I mostly just listen to your videos and really watch what's on screen, i just enjoy you talking, rather than gameplay, unless you're showing off something cool
i think the order of the blackflame/dd theory is a bit off. i think its more that the black flame drew upon the power of destined death for its strength, and in sealing destined death marika/maliketh essentially defeated the gloam-eyed queen and her apostles in one move. feel like its more likely blackflame is an offshoot of dd, rather than vice versa, since dd has the max-hp reduction AND the health drain, while blackflame just has the health drain. it would be interesting if sealing destined death came from a place of desperation more than anything, considering its the entire foundation for the golden order. marika seems pretty disillusioned with the order (compared to radagon) so maybe she never really intended for it to work out that way.
I suppose it's a holdover from previous souls, but I don't chase invaders. If you want to fight, you can take my summon while I watch clapping. Then we'll duel. Then I clap.
I'm not sure about your Black Flame is Destined Death theory. I think that when Death was part of the Elden Ring, the Blackflame was the God-slaying element, for some reason or another. And when the Gloam-Eyed Queen rose up and started her crusade against the Gods, Marika sent Maliketh to defeat them, and upon the good news of their defeat, Marika swears nothing like this should come around again, so seals Death itself in the Black Blade, chopping off the balls of the only element capable of slaying Gods. Now nothing can die, not just the Gods, weak to the black flame.
