Great to be alive then, young and free. 70 now. Still in love with my husband of nearly 30 yrs, like it was yesterday. We’re together, young and free forever. ❤
That’s when they played instruments such beautiful notes and harmony.. See Dr Donald Byrd standing there singing with the band he created..Sounded good then and now. LB February 2022
I'm 77yrs old now and proud to have been young in the day's of 60's soul and 70's disco scene, I feel sorry for young people today who missed these two era's 😢😢
I'm so grateful for this kind of music, and still can use it. I was in the 4th grade when this came out. I'm 58 now and it still makes me feel warm inside. Thank God for this era. And thank you for posting this.
Thank God I was born in 1970 and got to listen on the radio to all of the good music from the 70's. No shit it did not matter what genre it was there was nothing but really good music as this song attests to
This song is so pure and beautiful - just so soothing and hopeful at the same time. And I love love how the last chorus is so much more powerful and you can feel their joy as they are singing it!
60s and 70s in music was a very beautiful time in America. Songs had very deep meaning and a message. A story of sorts of love ❤️ or lack of it. About life. Not just some music and put some words to it. Till this day we still have great music, but it's more limited than back in the 60s and 70s 😊😊 America was growing up and becoming aware of who we are and where we came from and where we were going. We had serious growing pains and moving up and forward. People talked to each other vs. Talk at each other and trying to control the conversation and push what they want unto you vs. Just letting you be you, and they be themselves and having respect for each other. No agenda except to be cool 😎 in your own way. I bet I have 5 K or more songs from that period of time. Smooth and easy stuff from the heart ❤️ I ❤️ it. Smile and have a Coke Keep on Trucking Keep on Keeping on Live and let live And announceate your words and don't be lazy 😊 God bless yall and the Blackbyrads 🐦⬛ 😊 ✝️
Used to love starting my Saturday mornings with Walking in Rhythm (Blackbyrds), Lovely Day (Bill Withers), Darling Darling Baby (O'Jays). Such pure, clean, beautiful music to start a beautiful day. Also some beautiful cuts like Old San Juan (MFSB), Glow (Peter White), Coco (Joe Thomas), Forever In Love (Barry White/Love Unlimited Orchestra), just to name a few more. Have to say though, through the decades, The Blackbyrds remain very special.
Great tune, so exciting and bold. It was like an anthem. It takes me back to a time when a teenager, just about able to go out to the clubs and discos in London. You either liked reggae or was a Soul Head. My sister introduced me to Soul Express in Clapham Junction, so I was into soul. My friends would go to the 100 club and Crackers in the West End.
Nice to see this footage! I was at primary school in the north of England when this song was out, I always loved it. It captures the mood of those times perfectly.
This is so nice to watch. This song came out in 1974. I was 12 year old at the time in junior high school on the west side of Chicago “Austin Middle School 2”. Watching the Blackbirds in this video make me wish. Damn I wish I can go back to them fun days!!
Wasn’t Dr Donald Byrd a professor at some college in NC. That’s what someone told me way back then and this time brings me right back to that simpler time even though it might have been during Nam. I was in the service then but luckily did not deploy but college ROTC classmates did. By Gods grace , they all returned home. This tune brings back lots of memories of that time as I was also newly married and looked forward to life ahead. Peace.
A Teacher n All his students...just go to show u that if a TEACHER TEACHES. AND THE STUDENTS LISTEN....GREAT MUSIC WILL BE YIELD. Donald Byrd & The BlackByrds. Happy Music... MUSIC on my Miiiiiiiiiind. Dig It???
This Was The Best Music In The 70's Era & Sounds Even Better Now in 2024!! There's So Many Wonderful Memories During That Time. It Was ALL ABOUT "LOVE". In 1975 My Husband Whose Deceased Now Said He Listened To This Song On A Plane Coming Home To Me From Doing 13 Weeks of Boot Camp. I Love This Song!!
Back when you listen to the radio all the time and when your favorite song came on you turned the volume up! Your radio and stereo was your lifeline to the world and the thing you got after you got your tv for your room. When you had to used the store alway plan and made payments. Lol!
I was born in '76 & the 70s are my least favorite decade for music. Seems it was all disco. I can't stand disco. This song plays on the radio sometimes at my miserable, soul-killing job & it instantly makes me happier, love this song!❤😊
My first year at Livingstone College Salisbury NC bring back a lot of great memories!!! 67 years old and still working. 43 years federal government service.
THE BLACKBRYDS either performed this song "Walking in Rthytm" on The Mike Douglas show was on WMAQ-TV Channel 5 or Dinah Shore on WBBM-TV Channel 2 both television stations in Chicago.
What a beautiful timeless masterpiece!! Music was so great back then! This song just makes me happy! I'm "walking in rhythm" to beat of my own music 🎶 🥁 🪘
Dr. Donald Byrd standing over there with the trumpet, barely singing. I was about 12 yrs old when my neighbor (a freshman at Penn St) went to a concert at Howard U. in D.C. and saw the Blackbyrds. In 1973 Donald Byrd established the group while he was a music professor at Howard 🤎
One of my favorite tracks. I actually use to shed tears to this song and i do t know why. Though i was not alive when this came out, im still very much locked in to this timeless classic.
