It was a pleasure to meet you arriving Sydney Marina during the recent seasonal event . For a project like yours I have used a Interlux product , Watertite, for final surface prep. Sands nicely. Having had the wooden boat experience, on named Didgeridoo, I appreciate the scale of your 3 current projects you are tackling !

Having to watch this Monday as I was out boating yesterday and passed out just as I started watching this episode lol. But I'm so glad I found you Peter- got me over my hump of fear in working with not so much "exotic" as they are expensive woods. The interior of my project Hatteras is coming out beautifully- thanks to these videos!

Grateful for this channel as I swear I'm learning something new every time. Adhesive sandpaper, (presumably?) a hole drill bit and an electric drill for those hard to reach curved interior spaces. Making a note of that for the eventual grab rail maintenance I'm going to have to do. Nice figurehead on the outro!

I've got a 42' yellow cedar over oak motor sailer with a plywood house and trunk cabin that is totaled from neglect. I'm to the point of contemplating a total teardown and a redesign of the whole house to accomodate my retirement liveaboard home. She deserves it. A 1965 Blanchard-built, Ed Monk designed sweetheart. I'm taking some confidence from your skills and attitude. Now to find a reasonably-priced boat house for rent.

Possible solution for access to tank under dresser. Rather than make the dresser removable you could make one big access hole in the base of the dresser. Then when you need to access the fittings of the tank for any reason all you would need to do is simply remove the drawers

I'm grateful that there are fantastic people like Peter on RU-vid! Hopefully you can get the cabinsides on LadyZ's boat stabilized for a bit. (More content for upcoming year). Boat house seems to have worked out well, maybe you've got a bigger one staked out after this one is sold? Cheers, and Happy Fathers Day!

You know, Peter seems to really enjoy boat work as much as cruising, I think he really needs his own boat shed. A double wide wide with a small apartment above, one slip for Gordie and one to rent out to cover the costs.

I for one am grateful for you good Sir Peter! You deliver an entertaining show that is innovative, inspiring and educational to me. "Someday" I'd love to get myself a 60'-70' wooden motor vessel of the mid 50's to mid 60's style, fix it up and start cruising the ICW and gulf coast, "someday". I'm just saying that watching your channel, and a couple others, gives me hope that it's actually possible, so thanks for the inspiration and Happy Fathers Day Peter!

At about 14:25 - would it be feasible to cut a channel the length of the affected area and replace the removed gunk with a solid piece of wood? Mount a suitable replacement wood on top of the gunk and use a multi master/oscillaating type tool to cut along the top of the wood as a guide, then remove all the gunk. Fair in the replacement. ?

I love this channel because it shows quality work can be done with limited resources, skill and knowledge. great departure from the norm where you have guys doing quality work in million dollar shops and guys doing terrible work with limited tooling.

I'm wondering what your plans are for this summer, you don't have long before you have to vacate Victoria Harbour and the only boat that is even close to being ready for an excursion is Zephyrus but even that looks like some jobs will have to be postponed until you return. Then you have the boat shed up for sale although from what I can gather there hasn't been a lot of interest but you cannot leave all your stuff inside while you go cruising for the summer in case somebody does buy it, you'll also need to be fairly close if someone wants to check it out and does decide to buy it. Then there is the question of what are your plans after you sell it, you mentioned using the money for something else 'more suitable' for your needs, I'm guessing that means some kind of location where you can store more than one boat at a time plus all your tools plus spare timber etc and doesn't need to be vacated during the summer months but that kind of thing sounds more like a boatyard/workshop setup and doesn't accommodate the dream of 'doing some extensive cruising some day'. It looks to me that you are barely able to keep up with the workload and at times it is getting ahead of you so you are forced to make compromises instead of doing what is necessary, maintaining 3 old wooden boats while trying to live a fairly normal life and run a RU-vid channel is very ambitious for one guy, you really do need to consider lightening the load on yourself and let one boat go ! Poem is too small to be practical and is draining your time and resources too much, you need to prioritize your efforts where they will be most beneficial and release some of the money that has got tied up, you will be grateful that you did !

I feel your pain on the rota holes, I peeled some loose paint, found a hole, dug it all out, all the way to the back of the filler they used on the outside plank, 2 plank thicknesses, and that is where the water was pouring in.used some wet rot hardener to stabilise it, and will fill the hole, this winter when we haul out a new plank or two will go in there she too really needs new sides / cabin rear to do the job properly
