And normaly you would avoid supercavitation, it causes material damage. Also the white bubble you see arnt water vapour, these collapse real fast, but solved gases you have in your normal seawater you release by changing the presure dont and thats part of the white trail and it still reduces friction. So hey details...

Something didn’t sit right with the description for me either. ‘The boiling produces less water pressure’ isn’t it more like all water pressure is the same based on depth but the boat is now half carving through gas? And why is it to be avoided? Just varied pressure causing turbulence and therefore wear?
@tangofoxtrott7971
@tangofoxtrott7971 6 месяцев назад
@@milescoleman910because that’s not what the description says?
@maxhugen
@maxhugen 6 месяцев назад
@@milescoleman910 Think of air pressure in a certain area of the sky. As a plane passes through it, a small area above the wing is at lower pressure, and at higher pressure under the wing. The same happens in a fluid like water... the propeller works like a wing, with a lower pressure before it an higher aft. When that small area of lower pressure falls below the water's "vapour point" some water transforms into a gaseous state as bubbles, and then at the point of collapse, the temperature may be several thousand degrees and the pressure several hundred atmospheres. This violent implosion "pits" the propellers and eventually destroys them.

If any boat hits a fishing net, they're screwed. I imagine this boat is able to have the props in the front because of its catamaran configuration (pontoons never leave the water). I can also imagie that having props I'm the front messes with the steering. But that downside is probably be negligible if you can throttle them both individually.

the low pressure causing flashing, called cavitation, last a very short time , never so large to cover the surface of the swath displacement bodies. The low drag is a result of very low wave drag due to the small waterplane area and long water lenght. The seakeeping behaviour of the RMI swath Halcyon is published by the Coast Guard and immediatelly accessable by clicking. The stability in heavy seas is remarkable, all this in that report.

Propellers don't cause water to "Boil at Atmospheric Pressure"! They demonstrate "Paschal's Law" ( PxAxV{at the inlet}=PxAxV{at the outlet}. The "Increased Efficiency" is because the majority of the pontoons are surrounded by air bubbles. Which has less resistance than water. The Navy doesn't like the support arms of traditional "Hydrofoils". Because during Naval Battles there is usually a large amount of "Floatsum" in the water. If the arms are bent, or damaged, the boat may not be able to move.
@topspeed250k5
@topspeed250k5 6 месяцев назад
He says "boil at ambient TEMPERATURE" not "Ambient PRESSURE" which is true. At the low-pressure areas of the spinning prop, the water vapourises (boils), creating water vapour bubbles. It's called Cavitation.

People talking about fishing nets dont understand warefare. A unmmaed ghost boat,no matter how easy to disable would be a menace to other ships as you could launch a fleet from a strike group. Take the zumwalt class destroyer,it is 600feet long,yet our enemys have to hit a radar signature that appears to as less then 100 feet(much much much much smaller then that but rather not say for reasons) Mount a few missles on one of these and being unmaned would make it a extreamly lethal threat to other ships/fortification or even as a aid for strike teams like seals. And for anyone who has doubt look up the uss cole incident. Formor united states navy so i do know what im talking abouy as i had many chats with our TAC because i was a fanboy of our ships.

so what about a submarine with frontal propellers?
@SteelyEyedMissileDan
@SteelyEyedMissileDan 7 месяцев назад
Cavitation is really loud. In fact, submarine propellors are designed specifically to minimize cavitation as much as possible for that exact reason. Submarines rely on stealth to avoid detection in the first place, so they generally prefer to keep their propellers spinning slow enough to avoid cavitation altogether. That said, if the officer of the deck determines that their sub has been detected and it's necessary to take evasive action as quickly as possible, they can order the throttlemen to "ahead flank cavitate," which basically means "floor it and get us the fuck out of here."
@Trainboy1EJR
@Trainboy1EJR 7 месяцев назад
Rather than submarine, torpedoes could possibly benefit but that would also likely eliminate any tracking ability by having the blade in front, so a boat like this is probably the only use. For frontal propeller.

So basically some guy came along in 2007 and reinvented a smaller Lockheed Sea Shadow that was built in 1984 and got his feelings hurt when DARPA and ONR told him he couldn’t apply for international patents. Got it!

How do you have "nine hundred times less" of anything? If I start with 100 pounds, is nine hundred times less than 100 = 100 - 900 X100 = 100 - 90,000 = (89,900) pounds. What are negative pounds? Is that some kind of giant vacuum creating a magical perpetual motion machine that glides at a speed of infinity? No, of course not, which means you are stupid with your nine hundred times less nonsense.

Or a Whale. Boeing tested a Huge 200 passenger Hydrofoil Ferry in SE Alaska in the 80's. It turns out that there were Whales sharing the same waters that couldn't get out of the Way of a 50 mph Hydrofoil which had very little maneuverability.

This technology that Volvo Marine has on its IPS engines since 15 years. Don't understand why outboard engine manufacturers don't do that too?? They say protecting propeller vs 25% more efficiency, power, gas consumption and speed.

So it's something like a half-ekranoplan.. would be cool if ir would had some RATO and deployable wings/winglets so it could take off for a while to avoid obstacles.. nevermind me, just some scifi imagination

Is military still necessary? Until we have to defend against extraterrestrial attacks, military should be to teach discipline and order only. Humans shouldn’t be fighting to death anymore! Bless us all for understanding this things. Nyɛ yi ana wala daa! C.B.Bortey
