I actually loved this movie so so much. I went into it expecting it to be meh, but I was genuinely scared for a lot of it. I normally hate jump scares, but I actually felt like the ones in this movie were really effective + done properly. Was it anything super new and groundbreaking? not at all, but I had so much fun seeing this in a theatre! I loved Host, and absolutely hated Dashcam, so I was really stoked this one was so fun! I also had a row of annoying teenagers in my theatre, but luckily the rest of us yelled at them :-)

I was very pleasantly surprised by this movie. I liked it a lot and I LOVE Sophie Thatcher in everything so far. hoping to see her more in horror. I agree with what you said about having a light feel. It was a really good date night/popcorn flick. I also saw it with a rowdy crowd which definitely added to the experience.

My dad passed away last august. I just started watching horror again about a month ago. There is absolutely no way I could have done what your doing afterwards. I basically avoided anything that might upset me for a full 6months and left my job as a hospice nurse to work in a clinic. Check in with yourself often and be kind to YOU!

(Spoilers) My one gripe with this movie was the main girl’s friend group. They were in it so much just to end the story thinking she’s completely crazy, not getting anything back for their horrible ways to their “best friend” that just lost her mother months prior. That blonde one especially…I know it was probably meant to be a dramatic stereotype of the mean girl in these movies but I just couldn’t get over her sheer awfulness. Like how she spills gross stuff all over her dead mothers dress and then the next day they’re all confused on why she could possibly be hostile towards them. I kind of wish they just kept them out or just kept the main friend to deepen that relationship more.

You know what? I actually liked that aspect. At the beginning i was like, no way someone could be like that, but i talk with friends and we start remembering and teenagers really are mean. But i get why you don't like it.

There have been quite a few screen adaptations since the movie Cell. Gerald's Game, Doctor Sleep, Under The Dome, Mr. Mercedes and The Outsider. Gerald's Game was fantastic and directed by the great Mike Flanagan, who also did Doctor Sleep. He is also the director/writer of The Haunting Of Hill House, Bly Manor, Midnight Mass and many other things.

Yes! And 11.22.63, Lisey’s Story, The Outsider, Mr. Harrigan’s Phone, 1922, and In the Tall Grass (I think others, but not sure of everything). Plus, there are so many projects in pre-production or production that I’m excited to see - The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, Billy Summers, Joyland, Fairy Tale, and The Long Walk! Another consideration is that it can take years for a movie to get the green light, especially if the director or the production team insist on the author being involved in some capacity, so if you want SK involved, or need his approval, it’s best to get those movies made sooner rather than waiting too long, IYKWIM.

I don't think Stephen King stories should stop being adapted into shows and movies, the man sure can write great stuff that's not the problem. I think it's the fact that those adaptations have pretty much been bad recently. Just think of Firestarter, It Chapter 2, Chapelwaite (Jerusalem's Lot) for example... And now The Boogeyman. For this one they didn't have a lot to start with, and I admit kinda enjoyed it, but man that teenage drama!? 😩 Why on Earth did they have to put that in there? And I mean the bully and the dumb "best friend", not the protagonist going through her grief while also being a teenager. I don't know, I'm just done with stupid teenagers and over the top bullies like what's the point? They've used that trope so much it's just annoying. Apart from that the cut between some scenes felt off and also what you mentioned about the change in tone, don't know what happened there. Also I don't buy that they had to cut/change some scenes because they were too scaryz but who knows. Anyway, the movie was okay, guess I probably would've enjoyed it a lot more with a couple of friends over dinner and beers, I think it's one of those novies. PS: hope you post that Stephen King adaptation tier list video soon!

*Warning - rant incoming* Those 4 teens in the theater... this is why I haven't been to an actual theater in awhile. I CANNOT stand loud talking, laughing, mess-making, phones out, annoying shenanigans when I go to a theater. I am quiet and focused on the movie, I eat my RedVines or popcorn only when the movie is loud so no one hears me. I paid good money to be there and enjoy the movie, not to have some jackass ruin the experience for me. I know people are going to talk and mess around and so on before the lights go down BUT sit down and shut up once it gets dark, put away the phones and let others enjoy the experience. I love watching the trailers as well so anyone still being loud at that point lets me know generally what kind of experience I'll be having the rest of the time. Literally, all I want is for people to go sit down and shut up. People can discuss the movie afterwards when it's over, don't annoy the rest of us while it's playing. With the pandemic, it has gotten so much worse... like people have forgotten what movie theater etiquette is, I guess. I'll be seeing this at home where I know I can watch it without jerks being annoying. That makes me sad because I love watching things on the big screen. Like I wanted to go watch the new Little Mermaid in a theater to support it but I'm not going to give anyone a chance to ruin it for me. My daughter was shown by my example how to behave in public places like a movie theater and to be considerate of others, a lot of parents don't seem to care from what I've personally experienced and let their kids go full hooligan mode as well as being annoying themselves. Whatever happened to being considerate? *rant over*

*SPOILERS* I was also pleasantly surprised by this movie. I enjoyed it and I'll watch it again. The whole "the light going off and on" effect always gets me, terrifies me for some reason (well I mean, for obvious reasons) and the scene in the therapist's office where this happens with the red light, and the one glimpse we get was of the therapist herself... chills. Was I the only one who was intensely creeped out by that?! And when the closet door swung shut and you see Lester hanging... got me good!

Filler the movie. That film should of only been 45 mins long. If that. (Nes Manga)

14:00 OMG YES! If I see that friggen carpet pattern from the Overlook Hotel one more time I’m gonna scream. It’s so overly cliche now. It’s in SO many video games is insane. It’s just sickening. We get it! Use something else.

I feel the key to enjoying this movie was gutter level expectations. That’s what I had I ended up enjoying it. Up to the end I liked the cast, the mood, the look. Hated the ending. Also no teens are that blatantly mean this day in age. Sorry. There’s over the top and there’s just absolutely not. And to write characters that cruel and not give the audience the satisfaction of watching them die?! The f is that?!

Haven't seen the movie yet. The best part of the short story was the end. Lol

I just hate that people can't behave in movie theaters. Some people are jerks. That is why I can't go there anymore.

I’m biased because I love Stephen King, but there are some that should never be remade (Misery, The Shining, Christine, maybe Carrie again until we learn our lesson but good god was the recent remake a letdown), and some that just shouldn’t be adapted at all (The Stand, Sleeping Beauties). However, I’d welcome a high quality Needful Things remake! I also think N. could make a great feature length film if they really, REALLY lean into the Lovecraft/Machen vibe of the story.

I mostly went to see this for Stephen King. I didn’t care for the opening scene bc ((spoiler alert)) I don’t like babies/toddlers being harmed. I thought the main actress was good, but some stuff felt “off”… I liked the sister dynamic. It was a little hard to believe the dad didn’t hear/see anything when they’re screaming etc. I thought the monster creature was kinda cheesy. It was fun to go see a scary movie but it wasn’t anything new. I’m 37 and I did sleep with my closet light on last night 🙈

I liked Boogeyman but is was just ok for me. Not bad but not great. Fun fact not only do I remember the early 2000’s Boogeyman, there’s a cult 80’s film series also about a Boogeyman. 😂
