It's amazing how we have such a clear test of Joseph's claims as a divine translator and most believers couldn't care less. We have source papyri, we have translation documents with Joseph's handwriting that contain the characters on the source papyri and the "translated" text that matches the text of the Book of Abraham. And not a single character was translated correctly. It's an absolute smoking gun if there ever was one.
I absolutely agree. If you want to believe, you can make the discussion as complicated as possible. You can try to distance Joseph from all the historical documents or change the meaning of translate, but the reality is simple.
@@harshitgarg419 my point about 20’years had very little to do with Abraham. I meant the changes they’d feel forced to make to appease or for legal reasons for more clarification
The book of Abraham is a little troubling. I think the current LDS position is that it didn't actually come from the papyrus, but Joseph just used that as an inspiration or something like that. This is similar to the claim that Joseph didn't one for one translate from the gold plates, but just used them somehow to obtain the Book of Mormon.
I was in egypt (2 month ago) and saw things from the book of abraham + (even temple endowment rituals) carved into 3k year old stone inside one of the temples there! (You can't make that kind of stuff up). Who knows, that "ancient" knowledge probably went back to Adam (yet no other church really talks about it). Super interesting and food for thought!
@@Telavian Yes, there is a lot we still don't know. And perhaps the knowledge even went futher back (until the time of Adam). However it does show the knowledge wasnt just made up (and there is something too it). In the end people will have to decide for themselves. (However biblically speaking there were temples before and after christ) There were baptisms for the dead (taught in the bible, etc) too. All these factors do come into play (and are in the bible, egypt temples, etc) which says something at least (and not out of thin air) Okay food for thought and thanks again :)
@@Telavian Without going into details it did have many similarities. (However if one is not lds - or doesn't understand the things done inside the current temples) It might be hard to explain to them - if they saw it also carved into a 3k year old temple (in Egypt). I get it.
@@nute742 I am LDS and used to work in the temple. I think people see what they want to see. I also think that from the beginning of time, false gods and perverted religion. There are some of these false ides in LDS belief.
Doesn't need to. We clearly have enough of the papyrus to ascertain it is the source text and Joseph could not translate Egyptian. Missing scrolls / portions are just post hoc rationalisations to account for the fact that Joseph claims of a literal translation are factually incorrect.
how about the missing scrolls are the source of translation of the book of abraham? The fragment we do have is for another part. We have enough of the papyrus to do absolutely nothing and that is what the church did, it never added it to the canon. it doesn't officially endorse it@@dazzatheman7230
@@dazzatheman7230 Many things (even now) bedazzle even some of the best egyptologist - as even they admit the way of translation (from now) vs its meaning then is even different! (As affirmed by one of Egypts most renowned guides). I was there 2 month ago - and saw things from the book of abraham carved into an ancient 3k year old temple there! (perhaps this "lost knowledge") even goes back farther, dare I say .....from the times of Adam!

@@dr33776 So I guess you would think that someone just 100% made up everything (bom, book of abraham, the first vision, etc) When there are many scriptural references, witnesses, architectural evidences, etc - that prove otherwise) All of it was just a coincidence? AI has already proven otherwise (just by sheer logic alone and stats) vs preconceived notions taught (out of fear, misunderstandings, prejudice etc) I get it! However if you believe in miracles (like in the bible) and God - hopefully you believe that it all just didn't end with the death of the Apostles and Jesus (as most do). Everyone now adays doesn't want to have any faith (but just be given 100% proof and be spoon fed) But God doesn't work that way, nor would it give us the chance to have faith! So if you haven't already checked it out, read the bom, or abraham - and see what its message says (1st) before listening to fact checkers (obviously bias against the faith) Otherwise you will never know for yourself. One thing though (I think I already mentioned) Even if you take the LDS faith out of the equation - you still have 100s of different christian faiths (with various beliefs in baptism, nature of god, scriptures, etc). God is not a god of confusion! Jesus himself said "one faith, one people, and showed us one baptism. So if he is not (then how would he correct it)? The BoA is so problematic. I just wish it wasn't. 🤣 Honestly, I don't care how problematic it can be. My testimony is founded in JC and in many sacred experiences I've had in this Church. I cannot but conclude that the LDS Church is the paramount truth of human existence. I know a lot of people will disagree, but I cannot say it any other way, because that's the evidence I have in front of me. Would you lie to sheer clear evidence?
