Also why a lot of lay folk in larger galaxy probably wouldn't know the details of events happening in another part of the galaxy. Oh yeh and people in real life have the same mentality. Not necessarily for bad/closed minded reasons though. Just things happening closer to home, trying to make a living etc take priority for time and attention

I love the parallels between Grogu and Cal Cestis. Both somewhat forgot what they could do with the force as a result of the trauma they lived through with order 66. makes sense to me that they would face similar consequences. Ahsoka was older then but even she struggled a bit in the Ahsoka Novel if i remember correctly

The Order 66 flashback reminded me A LOT of Din's flashbacks to the Super Battled Droids attacking his home. Especially how the clones in the end take aim at Grogu, similar to go the SBD stared down Din before the Mandalorians arrived.

The symbolic dichotomies are interesting: To accept the Way of an aggressive warrior tradition, Grogu is given armor; and to follow the teachings of a peaceful order, he's given a weapon.

@e.h.4933
@e.h.4933 2 года назад
That's very good insight. I actually think that Grogu will figure out a way to do both, like Tarre Viszla. And that would also be a dichotomy - returning to a place perhaps where being a Jedi won't have to mean joining a cult, and being a Mandalorian doesn't have to mean following 'the way.' Then Mandalorian and Jedi can change their dogmas.

Love Dawson's portrayal as Ahsoka when it comes to body language. There was one moment where Ahsoka had her arms crossed and when she spoke afterward, she waved one of her hands - it's a gesture that's so reminiscent of animated Ahsoka because she did that a lot. Don't think it's a coincidence. I really appreciate the attention to detail here.

Since RotS established Yoda as a lightsaber user when needed, I would find it very hard to believe that he wouldn't construct a new one during his exile just in case Vader or someone else found him. I'd guess that "Barriss' crest" on the doors relates to force healing in some way. Maybe that's the healing ward of the temple, and Grogu was involved with that group of Jedi, since he knows how to do it in Mando S1. I've heard in the comics that Barriss had that skill..? I could be wrong, though.

I'm just taking this episode as confirmation that Yoda owned multiple lightsabers, which is not surprising given how long he was alive and it's not uncommon for Jedi at all. Plus Matt Martin from Lucasfilm has thrown that suggestion out there in the past so I'm taking this as canonizing his tweet. And Cad Bane's appearance was FANTASTIC! Seriously they nailed it, even down to getting Corey Burton back to voice him. I also wondered if they were the same blasters he had in TCW and Bad Batch, I wasn't sure. I know he looked paler but that can easily be put up to aging, he's been around for a long time, same for the sharper teeth. That could just be his age. I can't wait to see him showdown with Boba and Fennec, both of whom he has history with, he even had history with Jango, this is like THE cameo. In fact, everyone who appeared in this episode had a connection to Boba in some form, even tangentially. Luke, Cobb, Cad Bane, even Ahsoka has history with him, she arrested him during the Clone Wars with Plo Koon so I like that it's still themed around him, even if these characters didn't interact with him or actively partake in his story I wonder if that icon could be the symbol for Jedi healers or something, Barriss was one (at least in Legends) so that could have been the inspiration for her face tattoos. I highly doubt she had anything to do with saving Grogu
@e.h.4933
@e.h.4933 2 года назад
I agree - Barris did not help Grogu to escape. If anything, the opposite would be more likely. I love that you highlighted how every character has a connection to Boba Fett. Yoda's lightsaber not being destroyed apparently isn't a new "retcon". I was was confused as well when we saw the saber, but apparently it already appeared in Yoda's Hutt in cross sections (although yes, those aren't the most reliable). And actually, I would prefer this story. For Yoda to build a new saber after Revenge of the Sith or for his destroyed one to be fake and only then swearing off his usage of the weapon seems very right. Instead of having him not use his saber because he fled from Palpatine, having him personally choose not to use it anymore makes for great storytelling. Either way, I loved seeing it again so even if we never get an explanation, I'm happy.

I think the scene where Luke gives Grogu the choice between the chainmail and the lightsaber is a reference to Shogun Assassin (Lone Wolf and Cub), where the character Ogami Itto gives his infant son the choice between a ball and a sword. Matt Martin said because he's 900 years Yoda might have had more than one lightsaber over the course of his life. He also said Yoda clearly didn't leave Coruscant with the saber he used against Sheev but that could just be what he thinks and that can easily be ignored because sometimes good storytelling requires you to do that sort of thing. As long as you have a reason why and if you can think of a good in universe explanation then it dosen't matter. My headcanon is that Yoda recovered his saber after he lost it and we just didn't see it on him when he was escaping the senate building and the one Mas Amedda had could have been a near perfect replica from Yoda's quarters.

My question is how would Grogu not know who Yoda was already if he was already in training at the Jedi temple, hard not to notice the only other member of the species. Just hazarding a guess we will find the two related.
@Bad_Wolf_Media
@Bad_Wolf_Media 2 года назад
Ahsoka was at the temple at the same time as Grogu, and she didn't remember him. Granted, Yoda and Ahsoka were in WAY different positions, but maybe each of the 12 Council Masters had a "house" that they trained, and Grogu was trained under one of the others. Another alternative is that Grogu DID know Yoda, but (as has been clearly shown) his memories of that time are seriously repressed. And just because they're of the same species doesn't mean they're related. You and I are (presumably) from the same species, and we're not (again, presumably) related. In fact, I think it would make the SW Universe too small if they WERE related. I think Filoni and Favreau should go out of their way to distance Grogu and Yoda as much as possible.
@SoWhyX
@SoWhyX 2 года назад
@@Bad_Wolf_Media Agreed on the last part but as the High Republic books also showcased, there was probably not a single Jedi alive who didn't know Yoda or at least of him. Grogu most likely knew about him but has repressed this memory like all the others.

@MCLegoboy
@MCLegoboy 2 года назад
Max Rebo is definitely alive, and I think a number of people also survived the explosion. This is becoming a trope in Star Wars, but if you did not see the death actually happen on screen, then they are not dead. Maul was cut in half and fell down a shaft and he survived, Palpatine was thrown down a shaft and he survived, Gregor was blown up with Rydonium and he survived, Cad Bane took a blaster bolt to the head and he survived, and Echo got blown up and was dead for years but then turned up as a cyborg! Basically, you need to see the character die on screen, no cutaways, and confirmation of the body at this point.

The Pykes dropping off the camtono bomb in Garsa's cantina was a direct copy of Al Capone's henchmen dropping of a briefcase bomb in a diner in The Untouchables.
@Sarged40

I’m assuming the scene where Grogu has to choose chain mail or lightsaber is a reference to Lone Wolf and Cub. There’s a scene where the child must choose either a toy or a weapon.

The bombing of the Sanctuary also heralds an Easter egg not from the Star Wars universe, but The Untouchables. The protocol droid’s calling after the Pykes that they had forgotten their cash box (I forget what it’s actually called) made me immediately think of the “Mister, you forgot your briefcase.” scene from Untouchables. Of course after each of these lines were delivered (barely) both establishments blew up! Again not a Star Wars Easter egg but an interesting one nonetheless.

The lightsaber Yoda kept in his hut has already been revealed in SW Complete Locations back in 2016, so this isn't a retcon. The explanation given was that Yoda had more than one lightsaber.

There is a slightly obscure easter egg towards the end: when Din mentions that he might know of a way to find footsoldiers you can see a man in green Mandalorian armor. He’s Boba Fett and it’s a reference to the title of the show.

I don't really like that the whole giving someone someone else's lightsaber thing. Finding your own crystal and forging your relationship with and through the force should be a pivotal moment. Not, you're related to this force user so you should have the symbol of your connection to the force be an Earthly attachment. Also I'd like Grogu to try and take out Boba Fett after taking off his helmet because he looks like a trooper.

Not sure it was done on purpose, but the droid picking up the ice cream maker and calling out to the Pikes reminded me of the movie The Untouchables, where the guy leaves his bag behind and a little girl tries to get his attention right before it blows up. Soon as they got up and walked away I was like "Oh, that's a bomb."

In ANH, wasn’t the training robot already on the Falcon when Obiwan and Luke came in? I don’t think Obiwan carried it all the way from his home to the ship. So in that case it wasn’t a “Jedi” thing, instead it was something Han kept for who knows what. Maybe a tool to keep nasty animals off his ship. Just curious
