Bruh I didn't realize this movie was gonna get that deep, I'm kicking myself for not seeing it in theaters now. Def about to check out this breakdown. They showed out with this, we should have supported this more, but the marketing played it up mainly as a comedy.
As soon as I heard the mother say "They always take our babies" I felt the waterworks, but I also had to go back and rewatch it again later because when you watch this with the framework of not just being in Jersulame during the Roman occupation, but with people of color living as perpetual victims of a violent police state with sole aim of placating just enough of the population to profit off of the remaining few, I knew this movie was as black as they come. Amazing film. I had a headache after watching it lmao
I’m happy y’all reacted to this movie I saw this when I came out and this movie really stuck with me dope story and related with the times we are in now as well. Just a dope black film
Idk about the other days in other places but...I was one of like 5, n 1 white girlfriend, in the theater on the last day in wide audience, on the first day of Black History Month, to see this. We gotta give our people more of our dollars! 🖤 N me, not being religious, loved this interpretation.
