Miraculous claims surrounding the coming forth of the Book of Mormon are an evidence of the prophetic calling of Joseph Smith. Critics intent on discrediting the Restoration point to DNA studies on indigenous American peoples in an attempt to expose Joseph, the Book of Mormon, and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as frauds. Claiming that scientific evidence excludes any possibility that Middle Eastern or ancient Jewish travelers came to the Americas in antiquity, such critics attempt to sow seeds of doubt in the minds of Latter-day Saints and those of other faiths concerning the authenticity of the Book of Mormon as an ancient religious text.
Are these studies credible? Do the data actually show what the critics claim? Do they discredit the Book of Mormon, or is there biological and other scientific evidence that supports the claims that it is indeed an ancient record of a people that once inhabited the Americas?
The Foundation for Apologetic Information and Research (FAIR) interviews scholars and scientists to answer these important questions and reveals the faith-affirming truth that not only are the critics’ conclusions and methods flawed, but that there is credible scientific evidence in favor of the Book of Mormon as an ancient religious text.

DNA, complex, archeology, uncertain. Very interesting but you still need your own witness and live by faith.

This video was cut to make it seem like the DNA matched the Mayans. The guy with the suspenders was talking about Native Americans of N America.

Why do most people make decisions on what they will believe or not believe 🙄😕based on little or no factual knowledge the only way seems to me is faith faith first then knowledge then seeking understanding

That's a great question--let me respond with another question. Would you fault someone for making a decision to pursue a romantic relationship based on their feelings, as opposed to making only an objective analysis? Not a great comparison, but it brings up the idea that some things aren't learned only through objective reasoning/analysis. New evidence may change what one once thought was "truth", but direct communication with God can be quite an indelible experience, right from--what many believe to be--the source of all truth.

How many of us live in such a way as to have direct communication from Heavenly Father I've had moments but for the most part I've have had to move forward in faith

This is old and very shaky. Why are we still peddling this theory?
@virginiahansen320

Because it's still fairly accurate. The scientific field hasn't really changed. As Ugo Perego has explained multiple times, DNA can't really definitively answer the question one way or another, so it's up to you what to believe. That's the point of the video, and that's where things remain.

The point of this video is that one can neither prove or disprove the historicity of the Book of Mormon by using DNA.

I think Joseph Smith was inspired by the tales of the Connuet Giants in north Ohio in which folklore was that they were lost Israelites when Joseph was a child. As well there were tales of the giant nephilim, and that is why Nephi is "large in stature" as quoted in the Book of Mormon. There are several fictional books about these "lost israelite" moundbuilders during Smith's youth

I met a salesman that told me that Posturepedic mattresses were called that because pedic means child and posture+child means posture of a child. I never bought a mattress, nor his theory. As they say in statistics, "Correlation is not causation."

@@tuvoca825 except in this case there is so many things that are suspect. Like joseph smith using the same rock to "translate" the brass plates as was used to hunt for gold on farmers property. Joseph smith would charge the farmers first, go look for gold supposedly, and just leave with the money. Joseph Smith was prosecuted for this.

@@tuvoca825 just because you conjure warm fuzzies when you pray to know if your church is true, doesnt mean that it is confirmation from a Holy Ghost.
