Beatrice was an actual person in Dante’s life. In his first book, “Vita Nova”, he tells the story about how he met her when they were children. He says he fell in love instantly due to her purity and sainthood. He then spends the rest of his life pining over her, hoping for nothing else but her greeting. She was married to someone else, though. When Dante realized that people may realize he was pining over her, he decided to pretend he was pining over someone else. Beatrice got mad and denied her greeting to him, which was an absolute horror to Dante, since her greeting held some divine quality in it. Beatrice dies in 1295 (maybe), and Dante decides to stop writing about love and to stop writing about her until he finds something he deems worthy of her. It is in this period that Dante writes about different topics, such as politics and language. Next time Dante writes about Beatrice is in the Divine Comedy, where she is placed among the saints. Apparently this is what Dante deemed worthy of her.

@RobynReanimates
@RobynReanimates 4 года назад
@@TheFLAMEXD That is a very good point. Fanfiction can nail plot and character better than the original work and I know because I've seen it. However that negative connotation is there mostly cause it's easier to say "this is like fanfiction" than "this is like badly written fanfiction", even if the "badly written" is implied you get a bit of an association fallacy going. Fuck I'm guilty of it, I've said the Disney Star Wars movies are like fanfiction more times than I can remember but I've read Star Wars fanfiction better than anything Disney has done with the franchise

I read 2 theories about the changing animation : -to illustrate the feel of the movie changing as Dante got deeper and deeper into hell and his sins were revealed (good-looking heroic at first when his sins are unknown, gross skinny guy with long hair and slap-magnet face when he cheated on Beatrice, crazy-looking buffer when he murdered all of his prisonners and heroic-looking again at the end); -to illustrate the ancient lore and devout believers who called upon godly power to fight (greek, roman, german, beefy viking, etc). Personally I keep to splitting production costs, but I admit that those theories are both pretty good ^^

L'Inferno is the only part that anyone makes from the Divine Comedy, AND GOD DAMNIT I WANT TO SEE THE OTHERS. L'Inferno is cool and all, BUT PURGATORIO IS SO MUCH BETTER. IT'S DISTURBING, AND IS UTTERLY DENSE IN SYMBOLISM. Basically what I'm saying is, I want a trilogy of The Divine Comedy. Hell, make a -sinematic- cinematic universe out of that. We get the Divine Comedy, Paradise Lost, and some more obscure stuff of similar content as well.
@imdone439

Interesting timing, I just finished the Divine Comedy last week. My main goal in reading it was finding out why Inferno is the most well-known and influential, and (spoiler alert)(even though the book is 700 years old by now) I have come to a few conclusions: 1. Science marches on; Inferno is still somewhat plausible as an unknown underground structure/other worldly realm, whereas the other two are wrong for several reasons Dante would/might not have known about (Purgatory is the sole geographic feature of Earths southern hemisphere, and Heaven is built on the Ptolemeic, geocentric model), 2. Imagery; Hell is vivid and richly described, whereas Purgatory is mostly austere save for some punishments and interactions, and Heaven is simply described as beautiful and full of light and wonderful, but without any descriptions as to what makes it wonderful (because its too beautiful to be put into words), 3. Morality marches on; most of the offenses mentioned in Hell are either legit destructive and worthy of punishment or can be logically extrapolated from the basis of Christian faith, but when you look at what it takes to be virtuous in the Divine Comedy consensus starts falling apart. for example, a woman who joined a convent was only in Heavens first circle because she got kidnapped from the convent and didnt try to return, and I was like: um, what?

Also, dante basically invented modern italian. There were (and still are) lots of dialects that often were only understandable for people from that region. After dante wrote the divina comadia, it became so popular that everyone wanted to recreate it and they used the same dialect he used (tuscan dialect) and thats the italian people get taught at school. Theres still many dialects, especially in the south (for example, im from the north and sicilian dialect sounds like simlish to me) , but italian books are always written in tuscan dialect.

Your acting for the three characters is on point. The characters bounced off of each other well, making this a blast to watch. I'm wondering, have you ever watched Over the Garden Wall? Because that story seems like a modern take of Dante's Inferno and another RU-vidr made a video making a strong case for that.

Ugh, I'm so torn on whether I want to get the game. The Divine Comedy, sure. I'm for the idea of getting the original stories. But the game...I'm so conflicted. *Pros:* 1. The action and gameplay looks good overall. 2. The game take creative liberties, but still manages to pay respect to the original (for the most part) while being it's own thing. 3. Even if the game intended for sequels that may never come, it could realistically be enjoyed just fine on its own. *Cons:* 1. This is a personal hang-up, but I'm not sure how comfortable I would be _owning_ a game so full of gore and varying degrees/types of torture on full display, as opposed to just renting the game and still getting the experience. Not that I can't appreciate the artistic choices and storytelling decisions; but how willing would I be _to _*_go back and play it again_*_ once completed,_ let alone bring it up to decent company. I think it's similar to my feelings about Breaking Bad or The Departed (2006). They're wonderfully crafted crime dramas, but I can't deny that they can be hard to re-watch. 2. Depending on how subtle or in-your-face the sequel baiting is, I don't want to get so invested in Dante's Inferno just to be overly irritated by the idea that a continuation may never come. As a prime example of a bad open-ending, I can't tell you how annoying the sequel baiting was at the end of Young Justice Season 2. If it had just ended a scene or two earlier, it would have been great as a open-ended conclusion. Now granted, when I first saw YJ:S2's sequel bait (2-3 years before hearing about Season 3's announcement), I was aware that the series was cancelled, but I was not aware of the specific part where two important characters meet. Seeing *that* along with the knowledge of Young Justice being cancelled for the stupidest of reasons (CN and WB weren't happy with the toy sales and pulled the plug), that really drove me up the wall! 3. I hesitate in giving EA any more of my money, especially after their botched execution of Anthem. Yes, I'm more _willing_ to buy one of their games used, if I hear good things about it; but EA has bought out so many companies just to end up shutting them down, and they are *still* - unwittingly or otherwise, (as unlikely as the former is) making so many stupid business decisions as of late (Battlefield series, Star Wars games since bringing back Battlefront, superfluous micro-transactions and loot boxes out the wazoo that beg people to use real money), that I can't help but wonder if indirectly supporting EA, however little it may be, would help accumulate and encourage the behavior the makes EA a mainstay for the 'Worst Company in America' ballots. Anthem was their last chance, and unless some major changes happen, I'm not actively supporting them again anytime soon.

I think in the movie in Judecca the souls were not repentant. They were not sorry for what they did. That’s why Dante was told to stop. And I guess God helped when he prayed because of this. Also where he is meant to be the furthest from a God. Not sure if I make sense here. 🤷🏻‍♀️.
@ShadowWingTronix
@ShadowWingTronix 5 лет назад
I'm no spiritual expert despite being a Christian myself, but the way I saw it is that repentance in Hell is a bad thing. In the Christian view it's repentance through Jesus that keeps us out of Hell, or in this case frees the damned souls from it, and Christ preached to the sinners during his brief stay. We can't be saved except through Jesus (God is often used in place of Jesus and given the nature of the Trinity that's not necessarily theologically wrong) because all have sinned and fallen short of God's glory. However, Dante has to ask God for forgiveness and salvation, which for most of the story he didn't think he needed because he bought the bishop's falsehood. That's why it took so long.

If the ppl making the Dante movie had better planned their use of various animation crews it could've been really cool. If it had a specific purpose, like if each animation team was given a circle and if they all were given just a broad theme to give them cohesion, and/or if Dante had first appeared as the big lug then later on show the scrawny one to signify his time in Hell
@MarsCBG
@MarsCBG 5 лет назад
I feel like if they had 1 design for each character that was then stylized for each animation studio this film would have been much better even as a standalone. The dubbing issues also feel a lot like the animation teams didn't have the final cut of the voice acting or vice/versa or the editing team cut out a lot and didn't have the budget to get the studios to reanimate different sections. You can tell that a lot of care was put into the first few styles and that those teams really wanted to do a good job and also had the proper resources to do it.

Dante’s Inferno is indeed one of the greatest classic books of all time, it is a good blend of philosophy, horror, and good old fashioned revenge since Dante damned all his enemies in the book. It is also very well written that you are both interested and kind of horrified to find out what the next circle holds for the damned. If you love classical literature and haven’t read it for some reason, Dante’s Inferno is a must.

@@sorcerersapprentice after doing some "historical detective work" you can make some hillarious conclusions about the book. Let met show you. The book was originally written in Italian, while at the time the written language was Latin. This meant that you could effectivley hide something in written form because no one would be able to read it. Now combined it with the fact that this is an Isekai story (genre meaning in an other world) led by an self insert character who's main trait was "being the romantic intresst of a dead beautyfull girl" and the dubious implications of multiple politically high ranking pepole. We can conclude that this book probably never was meant to be publicated but rather was made to be kept as Dantes secret little fanfiction. Which in turn means that, if alive today. Dante would spend a considerably high amount of time jerking himself off on fanfic.net to Y/N (your name) smut stories about OCs in anime that he likes.

Also I hated the idea of heresy being a sin. That makes Dante seem so disrespectful to other religion, who has made people into a better person. While EA's version of the story has nothing to do with the book and is pretty inferior in comparison, the atmosphere is done pretty well. The parts of the game that doesn't fall into the generic darkness and brimstone environments makes for such settings as a terrifying slightly generic plane of flesh, or a swampful of tar, or a literal storm made of promiscuity, or my personal hell, the frozen core of the Earth. I hate the cold.
