Great set of questions Katie. I will have a go. You must be prepared for almost everyone saying that watching you was pivotal in their booktube journey 😊

Yours (closely followed by Jenny Brooks' channel) has made the biggest impact on my reading life; i was a *huge* consumer of period films / screen adaptations but had never read a classic in my life & didn't know where to start.. then i found your channel 💖💘 You're brilliant at what you do- u dont sound false in old videos at all- just young & infectiously enthusiastic & intelligent (im in awe tbh). Thank you for all you've opened us up to! 😍🤗😊

I think maybe it just sounds weird to me because they're older videos and my voice/manner has changed slightly? It feels surreal, though, to watch any older videos.

(Melanie here) What a fun video to watch. You were the first booktuber I think I ever discovered - maybe 5 or 6 years ago? I am so grateful for Booktube. I have found so many new books and authors to love through it! Also, having that connection with other readers is so satisfying.

Love this, Katie! You were the first person to comment on my first video (which meant so much because I was already a fan of yours) - and doing Victober my first year on Booktube was such a meaningful way to feel part of the Booktube community early on. ❤

So glad you added in that you slow down your videos! I used to find it difficult to follow you because you spoke so rapidly...in fact, I thought you must speed up your videos! I wouldn't have imagined that anyone could speak so fast! Just my slow brain finding it difficult to keep up! Thank you for your wonderful book reviews...I very much enjoy your videos! ♥

My TBR stack is such a variable thing. I tend to always have a pile of what IS being read at present and another for upcoming (and another for what has been set aside for the time being), but, my being inherently addled and easily distracted, I tend to change my mind so often that the stack can only ever be a loose suggestion to myself even at the best of times.

Thx; I have no channel. It's my expectation that to start one inevitably would be a disappointment, and tbh I enjoy participating through comments. The thing which gets me is this fascination with genre, as if one can't read YA and Non-Fiction, or Contemporary vs Classic but not both. I do recall finding BT around 2018 and being turned off by the sheer volume of videos focused on what's new in books. As a reader - like everyone else ofc - I've a nearly endless tbr that I tend to truncate around 20, many of which have been there quite some time. A couple of years ago I tackled Proust's Lost Time in French, and I don't believe I would have done that without BT, so I'm thankful, even if it remains somewhat esoteric. That was my greatest highlight, but also there was A Man Called Ove. Also near the beginning I'd find myself explaining why I read Moby Dick and why War and Peace is my favorite, discovering to my chagrin that such old school taste in literature invites acrimony. However, a pair of BT'ers decided to do a WaP project that instantly gave credence to my opinions, and for that I'm thankful too. I enjoy a lot of different channels, and hope to continue watching here several more years - thx.

You've been on booktube for so long now as well! And you have been so steady with it. I am also a fellow book blog to booktuber pipeline person, I think we have similar journeys in that way! I just read mr loverman the other month and I really enjoyed it too, which surprised me because I wasn't the biggest fan of girl woman other. And I read passing in uni and I adore it so much. I think I own like, 3 editions of it now 🙈 Your shelves are magnificent and your collection of black penguin spined books is so cool! I do my tags on my liveshows with patreons and will definitely do this one next x

Thanks for the revealing and fun video. Since I'm a native American Yank (western US), you don't talk too fast for me to understand, but thinking about those who have English as a second or third language, I'll bet your speaking speed does twist their brains a bit. I recall (years ago) trying to learn Spanish and French and getting pissed off and saying (silently) if those b'tards would just speak a little slower I might catch on. Funny. We all have our limitations. I started reading about as long before JFK was shot as years since you started your channel. When a young child, we may have had 20 or 30 books in the house and a set of Britannica. If you wanted a book, you went to the library. No bookstore either in our town of 5 or 10K population, no computers, but everyone read the newspapers (local and regional) and literacy levels were surprising. It was a very different world. Are we at all spoiled by this HUGE sea change? I started watching RU-vid for music videos perhaps 4 years ago, then learned you could also find channels discussing sports, politics, religions, books, and even geology. It never creases to amaze me that with a few clicks of a keyboard you can converse, sometimes in real time, with someone in London, Mumbai, Timbuctoo, or Winnemucca, who may not look like you but has similar likes and interests. IF we were to dig up Dickens and ask him whether THESE times were the best or the worst, he'd (likely) soon conclude that the internet merely allows a quicker path and many more ways to heaven or hell, depending upon what you're in Search of. Staying out of opium dens, however, still works, then and now.

This was so insightful! I started my BookTube at a time where I was learning more about my reading tastes and I'm making that a part of my BookTube journey, it's been really fun navigating what things I like and dislike in books. It's so nice to hear a prospective from someone who has been doing this for a while now. I also love editing and I'm always editing out repeated sentences and long pauses 😂 I'm so glad to have been a part of your inspiration for this tag and I'll definitely have to come back to it and do it myself once I've been here a while longer. ♥

I don’t have a BookTube channel but I’ve been watching BookTube since 2017, I think. I don’t want to start my own channel because I know how much time and effort it takes to make one video. I’d rather watch more BookTube videos, get inspired, and read more. Although I don’t leave comments, I truly appreciate and enjoy your videos, Katie! I started reading Dickens because of you. ❤

Haha the long pauses and saying the same sentence seven times is the most accurate description of my editing experience too. Interesting that you slow yourself down. I also talk fast and get complaints about but it feels so essentially me. I relate to the 'not being an adult without booktube' I was nineteen turning twenty when I started my channel seven years ago and I feel like booktube has not only influenced me as a reader but as a person. I can't imagine a version of myself who never discovered booktube. Thank you for the tag! I'm so excited to do it!

I have been watching booktube for about 5 years. My wife keeps pestering me about creating a channel myself. You were one of the earliest booktube channel creators I started watching because my renewed classics journey -- particularly Victorian classics which I've found I really enjoy -- started about that time. One video type that you do occasionally which I find so engaging is your conversations with your husband over a Victorian classic. Your interaction with each other and the book itself on screen is great content to watch.

This was really interesting, particularly as someone who's been watching your videos for about seven years. It's been great to see your channel grow in that time and your videos get the larger audience that they deserve. P.S. I've just been listening to Little Dorrit for the Mega Dickens Readalong, and am going to listen to some more now. I'm really enjoying it!
