The Bosses of Alice: Madness Returns & American McGee's Alice

The second battle with the Jabberwock was unforgivably hard. If he didn’t happen to get hooked on a bit of scenery I would never have passed it and would of rage quit

As much as I love Madness returns, I do think it is lacking in the boss/enemy department. You basically have one bossfight (the final one, the dollmaker), bc you technically never have to fight the executioner. It's also a bit underwhelming that you meet the most dangerous recurring enemy in chapter 2 (the colossal ruin), and there is literally no bigger challenge in the following episodes. And while the monsters have different numbers and placements that can make it tricky to fight them, enemies don't scale as you progress, so while an early game menacing ruin is a serious threat, it is trivial to beat them in the endgame, with all weapons maxed. I know this game doesn't intended to have a Dark Souls level of challenge and the atmosphere and setting is much more important than the combat system. But it'd still be great if we had more enemies to fear, fight and defeat, while also having at least one bossfight in the end of every chapter.

i love how they had amazing character designs but with a low quality in 2000, but they remasterizated all of them in 2011, and they got even crazier and just amazingly well made, i imagine how will the quality and the designs become in alice asylum, i'm SO EXCITED!

Someone should remake the first game with modern graphics... and the second game with proper bosses. There is a lot of long platform sequences that just scream 'cut content'.

American McGee's Alice is easily one of my all time favorites....and extremely underrated

Most people were upset the was only one boss you could technically beat for Madness Returns. I see it as they were bosses. But as you grow and get stronger/better weapons. Bosses are easier. They’re scary at first. But you beat them once, most just don’t let you do it again. They simply did, maybe to show that Alice is growing and helping her world. Or maybe it’s the doll makers desperate attempt at killing her. “I’ll send boss after boss.” Idk I could be wrong

I love the first game's atmosphere and locations, but the combat is really stiff and lackluster. I love the second game's graphics and combat, but the lack of bosses is a major problem. Hopefully the third game can mend the issues and maintain the good qualities. *EDIT:* Never mind. Burn in hell, EA.

Compared to the first game, the bosses and weapons in Madness Returns are a bit lackluster... Mostly minibosses, only 4 weapons and always the same musical theme for the fight Honestly, the first game has a bit more charm, but the atmosphere and plot in the second are just awesome! I really hope Alice Asylum becomes a reality (with far more ACTUAL bosses too!)

Ok other than the dollmaker Madness Returns doesn't exactly have any bosses which is a shame

The first one is so iconic, the tetric atmosphere, the awesome and various weapons, actual boss fights with cool bosses, the *chef kisses* soundtrack. The only thing that could make this game better are the graphics, it really still looks good taking in consideration is a 2000 game, but for actual standars, a graphic remake would be perfect, but i would not make it like the second, idk alice looks too "disney princess" for my taste in the second game, and is less tetric in general :/

I'm still praying for a remastered for PS4 and other consoles. I can hope that once Alice Asylum comes out they come up with Alice remastered collection

From Alilce's first game, what most popular are his weapons, most of all my favorites were: the magic dice, the deck of cards and the matatena (that's how he is known in my country). What if I liked Alice Returns; it was their changing costumes on each stage; the pepper mill gun, the toy horse and the kettle barrel. yes: both soundtracks in both games are a delight.

The executioner's face when Alice growssss and stretches from the cake: DUN DUN DUNNNNNN his mouth drop and the scythe falls. Alice: come on, fight me u weren't so hesitant or scared before. Also Alice: squishes the Executioner with her foot. me: nice. sees blood. me: YEAHHHH NICEEE

Btw when I was a teen I was fighting against The Duchess (I think it was one of the last bosses) and that piece of crap had a grab attack, when she try to devour you whole. I'll be honest at that moment I was paralyzed by fear(literally). I asked my brother to defeat that boss and only then I could complete the game. It was the most horrific moment I ever remember.

Don’t get me wrong, I loved Madness returns a lot, but it felt incomplete without the boss fights that they were leading up to with each world that just… never happened. And it’s not like they can’t make good boss fights. I thought the Doll Maker was fun

I just LOVE the variety of weapons and locations in the first game, while madness returns really has some drawn-out, cut and paste platforming and only 6 weapons. also, I really didn't like in madness returns how they just repeated the same enemies over and over and called them "bosses." Like the colossal ruin or the big samurai wasp. With the first game, the bosses were special characters, but in madness, they're just the same smaller enemies but bigger.

Am I the only one who ablsolutely loves Duchess in the first part? Her design and voice acting are amazing! Plus she probably has one of the most gruesome and terriying deaths in the game series.

Alice: Madness Returns was so ahead of its time. Imagine it being released today. They can make it open world like Genshin Impact or something we can co-op. But most of the time it's for solo playing.

Alice is super badass

first game was darn cool, atmosphere was magical, even if everything looked like boxes. Can't say that atmosphere in the AMR was as terryfying and good... It was less survival... More predictible; but still caan't say I didn't enjoy it. 'Till this day I play AMR, sepacially because my CD's for AMA don't work... I mean probably I need some patches to run it, but I have no idea how to patch this or If I won't nuke my PC downloading it. What a pity I haven't bought AMA when it's AMR DLC version was released.

I hated going against Menacing Ruin because the Parasol/Umbrella is glitched so you can't use it :/ I still can't use it years later. There was a whole other method which I've mainly depended on but it took so long to do.

Thing is; Madness Returns didn't have bosses except for one. And I think it's because of the lack of a boss for each Broken-Wonderland world was a missing factor.

This needs a reboot in the 2 ones art style and controls

Именно поэтому мы все имеем такой дичайший облом, когда на Зайца и Соню просто падают часы и всё. Но, как видно - по ходу разработки поняли что затея хрень и начали добавлять "минибоссов" уже на ходу. Финальную битву боссфайтом назвать язык не поворачивается - по сравнению с первой частью эта корявая беготня вокруг столбов - просто позорище:/

the first one was the first game i ever played, my dad showed it to me when i was waay too young, but i always pressed him into playing it over and over again until i was finally allowed to play it myself. of course i eagerly awaited madness returns, but it was lackluster in atmosphere, sadly

Madness Returns combat looks better than I remember it to be. I guess its because there were so few enemies and so few weapons. There were several concept arts of bosses that they never had time to finish, like Wasp Emperess. I wish there were in. Also Executioner was such a wasted opportunity to introduce a new weapon... sigh. Even though smug face Alice made in the end was very nice )

Ok, I feel like Bumby should have been included in this due to the story line and Alice killing him (only in a cut scene) but other than that this video is *chef's kiss*

They don't make games like this anymore. I loved the wildness of it. Some other good ones were Lollipop chainsaw, Spatterhouse, Bioshock and Left 4 Dead to name few. Games are plagued by micro transactions now. Got a PS5 and like Demon Souls is the only half decent thing lol.

Really hope they bring these games back as remakes…

I remember I saw this with a RU-vid that I dont even know. He was quite funny tho and for him I bought the game. I regret it because it was creepy XD but later the game just captured me. The ost is my favorite of the entire game, the costumes, the atmosphere is just wao. I loved this game I played in every difficulty. I do remember the american mcgee Alice was a bit hard to handle for me qwq I couldnt get used to those controls yet. I still have the game and wish I could play it on ps4
