I don.t think the granny was being shady. I believe she (the granny) was correcting little Bot's body posture. Notice when Bot says Joe Fritz's name, her posture changes. The Grandmother sees it, and out of respect for Troy, gives her a slight pinch. It appears the Grandmother thought it seemed disrespectful.
The grandma asked for less “bánh canh” which is not the same as instant noodle.. it’s noodle made out of rice. They are at a place where it sells this type of soup with rice noodle so it’s not as bad as eating prepackaged instant noodle
I agree with Grouchy Dude. It’s really difficult to know for certain whether or not they’re legit. If you meet with them again, hopefully at their home, and don’t offer them any money, but just your presence, you should be able to get a better feel whether or not they are scammers. Bot is a nice child 😊 grandma is an old woman, her chance of getting a good payed job is very very limited. I don't think they have ever got donations before, they have most likely never heard of it before. So oc granny like to get more donations, it's her only chance of getting a little extra money. When I was a kid living in Vietnam, there are many kids like BOT. They may look naive to you but they're very street smart. The translation doesn't accurately translate everything BOT or her Grandma say. Trust me, she's a lot smarter (streetwise) than you all think!

Around 2008-2012(I'm Viet Kieu from the US) I must have been back to VN around 12 times until I got married. I love VN but what I hate the most is when Vnamese people look at me as I'm an ATM machine. This goes for the relatives and girls I've met there. With my experiences, I can smell them from far away. When I sense it, I run away really fast. BOT and her Grandma definitely treat Troy like an ATM. Maybe not BOT so much because she's still naive but the Grandma is pulling the strings. I understand what people are saying about being smart to survive but the humility is a trait that's #1 in my book. Be thank you for you are getting but greed is a big turn off. AGREED 100%..Be Nhi's family seem to be an outstanding group . All 3 kids seem like great kids and the mom seems to the best she can . I would not trust anyone that talks bad about Nhi . She did say that she needed to go to the hospital and get back on her meds, maybe she had to stay in town to get them ? She did look really dazed and tired and you could see the bags under her eyes from the lack of sleep. You did a great thing in giving her the money to get back home and don’t be too hard on yourself mate 👍 Bot is definitely cute and a bit of a star on this channel. The Botmiester is a machine ! She had that money counted folded and pocketed in one go and she is very observant and takes everything in what is going on and being said. Bo is still a kid and an innocence one at that! Anyone can see that the grandmother is quite 'cunning'(per n Adams) and manipulative! She is clearly the one who schemes and pulls strings to have Bo says and does things to invoke the pittiness in you Troy(and in turn, your audience). It's sad that we all can see the potential (and cuteness) in Bo. Life sometimes pushes people to do despicable things. They often use their own flesh/blood to gain an advantage, no matter how small and insignificant that advantage is! Bo is better off without the grandmother! No one can tell how she will end up, but we can only hope the best for her! Too bad that she doesn't have someone who truly cares about her! The only person she has in her life is the grandmother who at best makes her work for a living at that age and at worst manipulates her into doing things that in turn make others have a bad impression upon her! Just sad but I do hope that we can all have love for Bo! She is in such an untenable situation where she has no control of who she is because she is an orphan (the original video stated that Bo's mother abandoned her while she was an infant in the hospital and her father had passed 4 years ago) and has no one else but her grandmother. The thing I can't get over with is that when I was working in refugee camps in the SouthEast Asia and the Middle East after college. The parents, mostly the mothers since most fathers were killed escaping the war, were so fiercely protective of their children! The mothers would fight tooth and nails for their children's safety, food, water etc.! Just heart breaking! And now I see how a grandmother uses her grand kid to do this! I'm so torn between the grandma and Bot. On one hand, most of her family is gone, either abandon her or have died. Her grandmother is in her 70s so there's not much she can do other than sell tickets to get by. Bot has no future so her grandmother is trying to get as much as she can from Troy and the people on here generosity. Grandma is trying to come off as genuinely desperate but it seems like it's not working for Troy or the people on here. I said this is the last time you should help her as there are other people that needs help and can make better use of the money. That's just my take. Again, keep up the good work.
Don't be over suspicious about the numerous phone calls. My daughter does the same , when she gets the phone she constantly wants to watsapp her uncle and aunt to the extent that they had to block her. This is what young girls do when they adore a person. The Grandmother looks shady unfortunately.
Guy, you have to understand it's not Troy that's donating. Viewers are giving donations with instructions to give it to this family. Regardless of how you fell about the grandmother, that's not Troy's concern. If doners fell it's a scam, it is up to them to instruct Troy to donate it to another family.

If you were to support them again, you should ask what the donations go to, or go with them yourself if you have time to purchase things they need.

Bot is adorable. Remember that despite her appearances, she's 13 years old. Or 14 now, after her birthday? It's not impossible that she has a crush on the handsome, rich (to her) and kind foreigner who talked to her like a human being and not just some poor street seller and helped her out. Maybe that's why she has been calling to invite you to her birthday and wanting to know how to find your RU-vid channel. Yeah, the nagging is a red flag, but if it's a scam then I would probably have fallen for it too. I fully support you erring on the side of helping them out and being a decent human being.

Go to daughter from Danang documentary on RU-vid. It's about a girl that went to the states as an infant to escape the soldiers from the north and as a adult went back to Danang to see her birth family. From the time she arrived until she left they tried to get money from her. Very sad ending.
To be fair they are selling lotto tickets at the side of the street so they're not exactly gonna be loaded. Im assuming its just Bot and granny at home so they'll have next to no chances of changing their situation by themselves, they were given a small chance to change that and yet we are blaming them for trying to take that opportunity. surely its worth checking them out again one more time.
I feel like everyone is using the term "scammer" very loosely... are people saying they are rich and do not need the money or that they have lied about their current situation which is not as dire as they make it seem (ie she only eats plain noodles for weeks) like either way if they were selling lotto they cant be rich I dpnt think... so at worse they may be exaggerating their level of poorness for some extra dough... seems not totally scammy to me
My thoughts as well. They may not be struggling as much as others we've seen with Troy, but it doesn't mean they aren't having a hard time. Troy gets to help who he chooses - it's all good.

Hey Troy, I think you have a very strong desire to help other people and I've noticed that you seem to be aware that there are people out there that need more help than some of the people you have currently helped. Maybe instead of giving them the money directly you can find an alternative to giving them the money through the purchase of food or by asking them what they need and helping buy it for them. I know that at the end of the day the money was sent to you by another person and they tell you what they want to do with the money but I think there are better ways of helping someone. At the end of the day I appreciate what you try to do for others and thank you for taking time out of your day to help people out. It is greatly appreciated by me and many others. It doesn't really matter if they are being fake, or scamming or whatever, what matters is that the you Troy, and the donators, are doing the right thing from the good of your heart, which you obviously are. Everyone is saying the Grandmother has an agenda. Maybe she does, and maybe that agenda is the welfare of a grandchild she faces raises in an economy that’s hard for older people to find gainful employment. Yes, some people will take advantage of your kindness. But then again, some people reach out to those they know or believe will help. Bot is worth saving!!!

I think after reading all the negative comments, it is nice to see one that's not negative for a change. I don't think this family is scamming him, but excessively calling him is a bit worrisome. However, that's kind of expected when you give your phone number out when doing charity. I don't really agree with the other comments to completely disregard this girl. I think Troy just needs to rethink how much he should give them at a time or if she should just give useful items that Bot can use instead of money to the granny. And visiting their house can also help us understand more their story versus only meeting them on the street like this since it's less intimate..
Its tough because if you were in that situation raising a grandchild by SELLING LOTTO TICKETS FOR MINIMAL WAGE FOR YEARS, and the someone comes and helps you like you did then its obvious that the grandmother thinks that she should get as much out of you as she can. She may be thinking about her self but she sure is thinking about her grandchild so I think its hard to be be too tough on her. Bot is just a child and probably has little understanding of the situation compared to an adult, she will just be doing as she is told by her grandmother. Sorry, I too like the BOT videos but now when I watch I see all the signals and prompting from the grandmother. It is not nice to watch, she is following her grandmother down the wrong path, I won't be watching anymore BOT videos it is to disappointing to see such wasted potential. It is always good to see things in retrospect as well. I saw the Bot pass the money under the table to the gram. The Bot is a super cute girl who has the greedy gram in her ear! Overall, Bot is not a con artist, or a scammer. She is a hard working girl trying to make ends meet. I am hoping the best for the Bot. She carries herself nicely, and respectful, she is adorable!

Thanks Troy for the update. I think you are right. Grandma is definitely trying to get more money from you. They don't look as destitute. The clothes look new ( maybe from the previous donation?). You can't blame them for trying to get more money though. They might not be as bad off as other people, but they are still poor. It still give a bad taste when they act like this though. There's definitely more people who are more needy than them.
I don't think Bot has any ill intention... If you watched carefully her facial expression & eyes upon receiving the money, it doesn't lit up like Christmas tree... Scammers when seeing money, immediately their face light up like fireworks. I don't believe Bot is able to pull that "professional scammer" stunts. Want to get the truth, ask the Children.
Most of the people here really have no clue about saigon and what it takes to survive here. I assume many here don't understand vietnamese, but try watching actual local vietnamese people who do charity work and how you always have to stand on guard for untruthful people.
Not sure about Bot, but the granny in my opinion is not too trustworthy, I remember the first video with Nhi, after Troy gave Nhi money to bring home to her mom, I remember the granny told Nhi to tell her mom that Nhi’s family got donations because of the granny.

6:49 to 6:57 The glances between them are so suspicious of their true feelings/reasons for "missing" you. It's almost as if they were "expecting" the donation from "their" benefactors/"fans". But if you were suspicious of how they went through so much money is such short of a period, and the gran saying all they have been eating were noodles, then you could've probe more into their situation further. But I guess if your donors/supporters specifically wanted to donate to Bot, then, well, you're merely the messenger. It's hard to judge how poor they actually are just from their clothes and appearance. I like the videos where you find random cats out grafting/scrounging to survive and help them out and make their day. Like when you bought the bicycle for the mother and daughter who only had one bike. Those charity cases showed more genuine appreciation and gratitude.

Given that the girl has a phone and (presumably) internet access, chances are she will see this video and all your comments about them. So what happens if people want to support them more? They will know that you don't have the most positive thoughts about them, yet they will agree to meet just for the money. It will be a very awkward meeting with both sides just acting normal, but having negative feelings ...

Well even if they not so honest. I am sure their not rich and they need a help just like many others too. Some people are just afraid to not be poor enough to deserve the help and thats my why they try to act more like it. And some people are just not honest but still need a help. I would love to see how they live and where. That would tell if they need help or not.
