I've been taking recurve seriously now for about a week, watching all the videos I can. I felt like I plateaued after a few days and was just getting sore and tired but not making any kind of progress in consistency. The very first day I started training with a band, at work just getting light reps in, visualizing everything and learning my lines, I went home and saw immediate improvement. I kind of picked this idea of moving hands away actively(thanks to your emphasis on bands) before watching this video but watching it today has given me even more aids in making it happen I cant wait to try. This has been a frustrating journey coming from hunting compound, but learning lines and moving hands away from each other in an active release has been a great help. It has been a humbling experience going from shooting lasers with a compound to losing arrows missing the target completely at 10-15 yards with a recurve. But its exciting and the impossible is starting to almost feel possible! Thanks man

Great timing on this video. I've been trying to sort out my grip on the bow as I'd had someone take a couple slomo video's of my bow while trying to tune my new Uuhka limbs. Still waiting for my iPad tripod mount, to setup that up. The videos showed I had a tendency to grip the bow on release. So after changing my grip, I used to just have my fingers straight out now have them curled in, I noticed my bow is jumping out of the hand much better now but the grip was hitting the pad of my thumb and limiting the swing. So something else to think about and practice now.

Honestly I was just watching a video of myself shooting yesterday and questioning my bow hand during release. I open my bow hand and straighten my fingers at release where I think I should let the force of the bow open my fingers rather than me opening them.

I understand continuing of tension after release (I don't know if I can actually do it but i would certainly try it)and I'm very grateful for this tip. But forgive my ignorance but I don't understand the gripping vs not gripping the bow. I can understand you need to keep your fingers relaxed. But whatever the exercise I would probably never wish to drop my bow or have it fall out of my hand. In medieval scenario when bows were actually used this would make you lose time at best get you killed at worst. so could you please elaborate on this exercise and tell me more about correct holding of the bow and what exactly is a correct way to hold the bow and with which fingers because I have no idea

How does this work if you prefer a wrist sling over a finger sling?

So you're saying we need to have the bow hand active. Does this mean that we need to put a small amount of pressure into the pivot point during expansion?

Hey Ashe Do you feel that having a thick and muscular neck have a negative impact on one's anchor position? A response would be highly appreciated

So should I put a slight amount of pressure into the pivot point as I'm expanding? I find that when I do this that my bow roll is much cleaner.

Do you think ancient archers have let their bows roll out? What about contemporary masters like Byron Ferguson? Or are traditional bows that different from modern recurves?

What if I do not use my bow sling for one day, Will my scores necessarily go down because I removed my bow sling?

My bow doesn’t roll because it bounces on my upper leg. I do not have fat legs or so. How come other people can roll the bow in front of their body and mine bounces on my leg?

In my view, hand and arm movement are different, but they must be work together. The whole arm should be pushed forward to the target. The hand should be placed on the grip so, the pressure point is correctly pushed forward and there are no forces out of the balance vertically. The hand position can be out of balance, if pressure point is high this causing a torque downwards or the pressure point is low, this causing the bow torqued upwards. (those errors can be seen by watching the stabilizer movements). Don't you think, if you force your hand to do this forward roll movement, then you will torque the bow?

It all depends on how you’re shooting the bow because maybe you want to perform Katra, letting the bow roll really hinders getting off the next shot , you need to explain you’re only talking about a certain kind of bow every bow is different, if you gonna shoot multiple shots really quick you have to grip the bow

Ah, no. Your definition of a bow hand release does not align with any definition of it I have encountered. The key point you need to emphasize is that the arrow leaves the bow in a fraction of a second. If you do anything with your bow hand, the only part in contact with the bow, it will change the bow reaction and followthrough. Those two things are the best indicators of consistency archers have. Any distortion through hand action of those means that they no longer are controlled by only the forces existing at fell draw and release. The bow hand and wrist need to be relaxed, the bow arm needs to be help up (through shoulder muscles_ so the bow can "take its bow" as it were.
