The bow grip is one of two areas you contact the bow itself, which makes it vitally important to be consistent in how you hold your bow. I show you in this video how to hold the bow grip in the strongest way possible for the best chance of archery consistency.

Great video, per usual, Jake. This video is incredibly important to a developing archer. I wish I would have seen this about a couple of years ago when I first started archery. For well over a year, I was gripping the bow EXACTLY like how you show NOT to do it. I thought I'd seen several olympic style archers gripping the bow that way, not realizing that they were simply using bows designed with an extremely high grip. So I started using the same grip, but on a very low grip compound bow. Not only did I have all the problems you articulate here and a horrible side to side wobble, worse, I developed serious bicep tendon tendonitis, though at the time I had no idea what was causing it. Ironically, it was when I started shooting a bare bow with a medium grip that I begin to understand the problem. The draw weight of the bare bow made it clear that I couldn't hold that pivot point grip steady, so I had to put pressure lower on the grip. After that EVERYTHING got better - including my shoulder.

It's amazing the different ways a particular aspect of technique can be explained and interpreted. I must have watched your other videos discussing the grip a hundred times and somehow missed the key point of how to get into the grip.....push into the throat first, then settle into the pressure point. Thank you for reiterating/clarifying/highlighting again in this video. Looking forward to the next one.

My groups tightened up significantly in my first shooting session after watching this. In addition, the full draw position felt much more stable and thus easier to hold for longer. But Jake didn't lie! The arrows go higher. I shot several over my deer target and spent a good while hunting for them in the woods. Shoot low on your first few tries with the new grip.

I like your channel. I am just getting back into archery after a VERY long break. Like a no Internet long break! Grabbed a 40 pounder recurve and set up an archery course on my land. The tech has really changed since I used a handmade 65 pound long bow that was so huge, I had to angle it to shoot it....and I am 6 foot 2! Anyway, never was able to access instruction, so happy that so many people seem to be into this sport and kicking down knowledge. I am a rock climber, so forearm fatigue is not an issue with archery but damn, the tips of my left shoulder and my right bicep....

I am the exception LoL! not by choice my left hand is held to my arm by a 7 inch titanium plate and 8 screws due to a severe injury and total fusion. right hand is a partial fusion and not strong enough to hold the riser safely but can pull and hold a string safely. I'm able to Hunt and target shoot, I am able to string walk shoot barebow and compound, I probably will not be setting any record scores but its about having a good time with family and friends. Very informative and useful video as usual Sir! I am looking to getting back into local competition shooting, looking at both the Sanlida and the Exceed, I've shot Hoyt for many years so I am a little Biased but the Miracle looks good!

I shoot a wooden traditional recurve. My grip is not made perfectly symmetrical and I think it's made on purpose. So while I try to push into the pressure point, I'm effectively pushing towards the right, and I have some very interesting result: when I shoot light feather-fletched arrows (also too stiff), they drift waaay right. This is not much of a problem when I shoot heavier vane-fletched arrows. But this might also has to do with my arrow rest which.

I've been doing archery for over 8 years now (olympic at first, now traditional) and I have to say that I struggled with an improper grip for a while too. Another problem with pushing at the pivot point is that you stress the area between your thumb and forefinger quite a bit instead of distributing it evenly - this can result in a sore spot after prolonged sessions. I also found that for beginners pushing into the grip properly tends to align the elbow properly more often while an improper grip often results in the elbow rotating down - maybe because of the other muscles being activated instead of everything relying on the skeletal structure.

I actually just took a college course in archery, and I excelled at my form very quickly. But about half way through the semester I started noticing that I was having the exact issue you mentioned, sadly I only now fixed it thanks to this video. Do you have any tips you might pass down to a newbie archer like me?
@LimDul
@LimDul Год назад
@@patrikioskoskinas3308 Only to never stop consciously thinking about your form and even after getting the basics right continue to change and tweak things, maybe one thing at a time, to see what works for you. I am not a competitive archer, I shoot traditionally at 3d ranges, but it's still more satisfying to hit your target than to miss, right? Some people get set in their ways early on and then even after 20 years of shooting have very poor form and poor results - don't do that! There's always stuff to learn and improve!

Forgive me, I'm a complete noob. But it seems to me the sensation is like if you were performing a front plank? i.e feeling the load through the pad of your palm, with very little tension in your forearm. The pressure in the pivot point simply a product of that load through your palm being directed up into the throat via the angle of the grip? P.S I think your videos are awesome.
