The Bowes Museum Silver Swan: A story of Conservation and Continuity 

After over 1500 hours of meticulous work by expert horologists, this 250-year-old masterpiece is ready to perform once again. See the Silver Swan glide gracefully on a flowing glass stream, accompanied by enchanting music. The culmination of this intricate restoration project was made possible through funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, The Leche Trust, The Aurelius Charitable Trust, The Circles of Art and the generosity of people who gave £20,375.00 to a Crowdfunding Campaign as well as private donors. Come and witness history come to life at The Bowes Museum in Barnard Castle. In this video you’ll see the Cumbria Clock Company working on the Silver Swan and hear from Antiquarian Horologist Seth Kennedy, Collections Manager Jane Whittaker, Heritage Artist in Residence Victoria Franka, Volunteer Swan Explainer Marilyn Elm, Crowdfunding Donor Lorraine Groves as well as visitors to the museum.
