Arlie is just pure class, she's so friendly and full of information. A pleasure to watch her work.

I played a comedy sketch in my head...she goes to hug them and knocks over the lamp. I've been watching too many episodes of the Three stooges...😂 I'm happy for them. It is beautiful.

These girls, whatever tragedy they faced before finding this out, I sincerely hope it is now behind them. The look they shared of was of both pain and relief... May their lives be bettered not just by this lamp.

The AR specialists are like the purest people on earth - so humble when they find something historically significant and so happy to deliver good news. I love this show, it's all peace and knowledge. Bless you

Love how the two sisters are in such sync. One stops talking and the other immediately takes over. The force is strong with these women. Mother would be proud.

one of my favourite bits of road-show appraisals is what I sometimes mentally refer to as the 'college tuition cry'... that moment when you see a person just breaking down, imagining their entire life being able to transform in some way, because of the financial windfall that they never knew they had.

How much fun would it be to be able to give good news like that? Gotta be a great feeling.

That is the sweetest appraisal I've ever seen on the show.

I can tell you as an antique dealer, having moments like this are so special. More often than not, you end up the crusher of dreams when people come to you with a family heirloom that turns out to be fake or not what the owner has believed it to be. Personally if find it so rewarding to be a part of a moment when someone does hit the antique jackpot. This was a great moment.

I saw this when it was first aired, & still remembered it around a decade later when it was aired again, because it was so powerful. What a thrill to see these two sisters so overcome with happiness!

It's obvious that they are sisters, and I am so happy for them, as they were so humble and so very grateful. 👍

That is so touching to see - that money actually means something to those sisters - hearing the (younger?) sister just sobbing broke my heart and is so pure. I also think it was thought of as a last gift from their mother, which is rather beautiful.

Yes! I’ve been searching for this roadshow clip I remember seeing so long ago, the ladies’ reactions are so touching, such poignancy remembering their mother & seeing that something she valued so much also had great monetary value

I remember this appraisal well because the sisters were so emotional and for me it seemed perhaps their mother had recently died which would explain how close to the surface their emotions were when having an item so closely associated with their mother appraised. Very touching.

The reaction to the value is precious omg had a little tear myself, brilliant.

I remember walking into a home in West Springfield Massachusetts MANY years ago now while working as a carpenter to install new windows for Window World and I was instantly shocked. There was amazing things inside that I then knew why his windows all had bars over them from the inside of the home.. Tiffany lamps everywhere along with VERY rare and expensive artwork. 1 particular painting he had on his wall I later saw a similar one get auctioned off for around $4.5M and his wasn't a reprint or fake yet 100% authentic and from Paris or something...I didn't even want to walk through his house with my toolbelt on...

Pretty cool when you find out your mother had a down payment on a nice home sitting on a shelf for you and your sister.

They made me cry.

Fascinationg to see Arlie Sulka's speech get slower through the years, to where her presentations contained much more measured speech. I guess that happens with most people, but here speech pattern and speed totally changed as time went on.

There was one of these shows where someone bought a house, and they asked the buyer if they could include the lamp in the sale. The seller agreed. The lamp turned out to be worth as much as the house itself.

Roadshow uses mostly apraisers with unique personalities and Arlie just may be my favorite,there are some close seconds though. The first big apraisal I remember was a silver Spanish helmet found in the rafters of an attic,which upon research was probably the Milanese parade helmet and a "controversial" find. I would like to know more about it but can't find much. How was it really found? Is it as old as they say(17th century)? The show was pulled early on which explains why nobody remembers it but me when I mention it,lol.

I swear my friend aunt has 3 lamps like this in her house!!!

I bought four museum reproductions of Tiffany lamps. Not this design but still nice. They were factory seconds. I paid $20 each for them. I carefully examined them and found the only flaws were that some of the glass was coming loose so I repaired them and kept them in my home and was the envy of my family. Ten years later when I had to down size I sold them for $2000 for the set to an antique dealer who had them in his shop the following week for $1200 each. That was five years ago. I think he was over charging but then I was going to ask $500 for the set and his opening offer was for $2000. I was too shocked to think to negotiate higher. Even a good reproduction of a Tiffany lamp has value. Mine were made from quality stained glass and the base and fittings were real bronze with a good patina so they weren't junk. I just had no idea. The business where I got them from was a salvage company who bought up large lots of merchandise mostly from insurance companies and liquidators and sold good stuff cheap.

Arlie Sulka is very knowledgeable, genuine, precise and straight-forward. She took over the Lillian Nassau's Tiffany-specializing shop in Manhattan if I remember decades ago now. However, the mother's story just does NOT pass the muster esp given Florida scene. People, stay in touch with your old folks and know who is around them when they are living away in retirement. Unfortunately, too many elderly get to depend on others - mostly good ppl but sometimes scavengers. Heard stories all the time how elderly easily extorted or scammed. Note the mother had kept the lamp out of sight for good 30 years since purchase and still did not come forward -- perhaps such as not to be recognized by anyone especially the previous owner's family??? My guess would be the mother passed away or did not explicitly tell these girls not to be filmed -- this is way back from early ARS days. Could it be that lamp was "bought" from an aging+forgetful or suddenly-deceased lady with no family around? Also, hard to believe that a well-to-do woman with family Tiffany lamp, who kept it with herself for this long, would have given it away for $125 -- yes, even in 60's. And, a Tiffany lamp is never "too large" even for a retirement coastal condo or studio apt to be given away like the mother's account of the story. Fishy, fishy, fishy - to say the least!!! PS. -This recording does not have girls' reference to the lamp stowed away for 30 years. -Either lamp was in the family since original purchase by lady's grandfather or if purchased later the price would be even more handsome to vividly remembered. Mostly purchased and kept in up northeasterner and/or wealthy families. This lamp was important enough to be kept and likely taken to FLA when presumably old lady/husband retired. -FYI, both (typically) bronze bases and lampshade rims are clearly stamped 'TIFFANY STUDIOS/NEW YORK/model number'.

We don’t use the expression “as right as rain” enough.

II have this very shade made in red roses but with a different base. It was made by Paul Crist Studios 1988 or 1989 in Southern California. I wonder what it might be worth today.

I hope the girls held on to this lamp and can sell for big bucks now (well, maybe not right now, but certainly in the near future!).
